Now, depending on the age, I'd allow os choice (I'd give advice based on what the pc is meant for) and root access (if root is given, any fuckups are fixed with very little of my help).

But in all seriousness, here's my plan for my kids both boy and girl:
1. Linux computer from the very start. They can use my windows machine while I supervise it, and they can have windows in a VM on their linux machine. I will buy them parts and help them configure stuff for their first several builds, though, because I want them to enjoy using computers.
2. Mandatory keyboard/mouse use; none of this touchscreen only shit.
3. I'm going to be building a headless Untangle gateway on my network that will have a locked case and password protected network access which will filter machines using a MAC whitelist. By the time they learn to bypass that, they will be old enough to be cast onto the net in all its horror. Until then, they will get a mildly censored version of the net that doesn't allow just a few sites that I know of and restricts use of SSH/VPN/TOR traffic from all other computers on the network; everything else will just be logged so I can monitor their browsing habits every once in a while. If tommy wants to look at dicks and generally be a degenerate, I can't really fault him for that, but I can take corrective action until he is old enough to be a degenerate properly.
4. My kids are going to have to learn one programming language or more. I don't care which it is, but they have to be at least basically competent at it. It really pisses me off that I'm not competent in any programming language and find it difficult to become competent, and that's really held me back in some ways.
5. No TV. literally fuck that medium. If they want to watch movies, fine. If they want to watch a TV show that I approve, fine. But holy shit I hate television.
6. Mandatory book reading.
7. Mandatory go outside and play time.
8. Mandatory hack your neighbors time. No, just kidding. But it might be fun birthday party idea.
I'm gonna teach him how to game at first, and when he starts playing around with programs and stuff, I'll make him repair the computer if he fucks it up.

Au contrair, wealth is a process and can only be maintained by people who work to create it. It is also relative, so that you have people who are "poor" in the states earning in the top 20% of all earners worldwide.
We need to maintain population levels if we want to maintain this level of wealth. Yes, there is such a thing as too many people on a finite planet, but there is also a thing as not enough workers to create the same levels of wealth we had before, automation be damned (due to the second law of relative wealth).

I'm now in law school, and build computers for friends as a hobby. I would raise my kid with a variety of interests around them, and let them choose what path to take in life, unless they think painting or herbs or something is a real career.

Now married, i certainly do not want to control any future kids, ot helicopter parent, however Id like to ask them directly wether they feel they are better with their hands, with writing, talking, arguing when the time is right, iD like to help them identity their stengths and support them matching it to a well paying career without controlling them.
