How do you even run 16gb in single channel? Then again I guess DIMMS that dense probably do exist.

It's pretty weird, because I can play MW3 on high at like 60+ FPS, CS:S at 120+ sometimes even 200 FPS but CS:GO on low in 1024x726 only at 60-70 FPS which isn't ideal for me.
>>
>>53488738
Forgot to say, I will be upgrading it to this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QmPg8d
Once I get the money of course.
Any help with the parts is appreciated.
I have chosen 16 gigs of ram instead of 8 is because it isn't really that much more expensive.
>>
>>53488491
Using the wrong slots, nigger. Consult your motherboard's manual.

>>53488678
Two 8GB DIMMs in the wrong slots. Most motherboards require you to use certain slots when you're only using two sticks in order to get dual channel. 16GB DDR3 DIMMs do exist though, and they're becoming quite common with DDR4 now. I have a 4x16 64GB kit.

I know. I have never felt such a strong buyer's remorse as I have with my 970. I've wasted more money on other things that I've felt somewhat worth it.

If I could be arsed, I'd sell my 970 when Polaris comes around, but I'm a lazy piece of shit, so I'll probably keep it until it dies or ends up being too slow for anything.
>>
>>53489483

I figure you guys are more knowledgeable than the /sqt/ thread when it comes to this; they're not helping much.

I have a lenovo thinkpad t430. I want to upgrade the processor. The problem is I don't know if it's even worth doing.

Current processor -
i5-3210M (2.50GHz), 3 MB of L3 cache

target processor -
i7 3520M, 2.9GHz Turbo 3.6GHz 4 MB L3 Cache
>>
>>53496288
it'll definitely be an upgrade but not worth it.

1)higher thermal threshold of a more powerful processor
2)laptops are much more difficult to swap parts out of, not sure about thinkpads but i know people who have killed their laptop trying to upgrade ram because it was on the underside with no service panel.
3)something like an ssd would be a more noticeable upgrade for general use
4)possible incompatibility with your laptop.
same socket != guaranteed to work
>>
>>53496659
I feel you're right, the thing costs like $150 used and that could go towards a 250 GB SSD replacement for my main drive

>>53504320
Right? I just replaced my 3 year old AIO cooler because it had stopped working, I was getting 80degrees while doing stuff like Youtube and the CPU was doing autoshutdown. Pretty sure the pump failed.

I might stick to aircooled from now on. On my next build in a few years I'll get a nice one and probably go Intel CPU with AMD GPU to see how that works. I like to switch things up.
