I'd just say "enjoy your arm strain" and leave it at that but let's be more constructive about this. Minimising the distance you have to move your hand between the keyboard and mouse will do wonders in the long run. I sympathise fully that you don't want reduced functionality, and as such I encourage people to either get a dedicated numpad, that can be put to the left of the keyboard or wherever you find comfortable, or to bind an artificial numpad on the keyboard. This can be easily accomplished with Autokey on Linux and (I assume) with Autohotkey on Windows.

Linux users can also do like me and make their own keymap, with extra modifier keys dedicated to accessing such things as a numpad or whatever else strikes their fancy. It's not something I recommend unless you feel really motivated, though, as down that path lies madness.

Some buggers are likely to chime in that they've never used a numpad and that it is useless. To them I say, good for you, dear. As long as it works for you.
>>
>>53482139
as a programmer I really can't understand the need for a numpad. you need to type an actual number so rarely and if you're typing hex you need to reach for the alphas anyway. but if you need it, more speed to you.
>>
>>53482195
My ending comment was a bit heavy-handed and I could have made it more clear that it is directly targeted at people who imply that the numpad is worthless universally. I don't quite feel the need for one myself but I definitely understand that there are those who do, which you seem to understand as well.

I think I read couple of times that pok3r black keycap letters are easier to fade off than the white ones. Aren't they both made by the same process?
>>
>>53482245
might be chemical difference, might be shill-talk, hard to know without source.
>>
>>53482304
Yeh some anons before stated that black caps are worse than white because they are not so resistant..

Didn't pay too much attention back then so now I'm just stuck with this in my mind without the clarity of information.
>>
>>53482245
>>53482362
Let's look at this way: given that you prefer black keycaps to white, would they really rank lower with faded legends? While unfortunate, it becomes a non-issue if you still prefer the black ones.
>>
>>53482440
actually it's kinda tricky.
I like white keycaps, but prefer black case.
So i thought about buying black pok3r and later, when the time comes (spare $$$), buy new set of white keycaps.

And as I think about it now, in that situation, faded legends wont matter at all. I'm just not sure when that time comes.

Try acting like one. "Manlet" arguments are ridiculous.

Seriously, though, someone who has very wide shoulders to the point where they can't comfortably have the mouse next to a tenkeyless keyboard while gaming or whatever, probably needs a split keyboard anyway, as the steep angle when typing on a normal-sized keyboard (as in normal keys, whether the keyboard is 100% or 60%) has to be even worse than usual.

More importantly, the point about moving the hand between typing and mousing largely remains unchanged no matter the size of the person.
>>
>>53482713
I type one handed because my hand-span is from capslock key to the ' key. I keep my right on my mouse at all times. Solves the problem.

Looking at the matrix, how could you press those 4 keys and they all get registered? Also, the controller is a Teensy? What are the pros/cons?
>>

>>
>>53484262
Dude I just drew a red ring in pain on this image
>>53483460
>>
>>53484049
Not sure why that wouldn't work. The controller recognizes which row and column has been actuated and determines the switches pressed based on that (the wiring to the teensy isn't complete on that image, the columns are also connected to the controller). It's the same design principle as with any other keyboard.

That's as far as my knowledge goes actually. I'm not sure if the firmware on the controller does anything to further prevent issues with KRO, but I can confirm from actually using the thing that 6KRO works.

You can probably tell by my solder joints that I'm quite new to this myself.
>>
>>53481146
by furiously shaking it
>>
>>53484691
Actually by that logic it would not work, because theres 3 wires going to the teensy, it could not register 4 buttons with 3 wires, how it works it's scanning every row and column very fast, thats how KRO works, so it could even register more then 4 keys with 3 wires.

Kind of looking around for a mechanical keyboard for the first time, and some that are on sale on Newegg seem to have caught my eye - they don't look like ricer shit and they've got the four main switches.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201085

Was considering using reds since I'm mostly playing games with some shitposting on Twitter and group chats on the side.

I would like keys that would at least give me that wee bit of click to them, but at the same time I think I should be more worried about getting the keys activated more efficiently. Would browns work in that regard, or should I stick with the reds?
>>
>>53485199
browns don't click, they're tactile, which means they have a slight bump on the way down. if you're typing/gaming at speed, you'll only notice a small difference from reds. it's a matter of personal preference.
>>
>>53485298
Ah, yeah, that's kind of what I meant - I don't really care for the keyboard being super loud or anything, I was just looking for some force feedback. That said, I think I might opt for the reds anyways and if it doesn't suit me I can just as easily swap it out for browns.

Here's to hoping Rosewill doesn't fuck me and I get a busted ass pile of junk - my budget isn't massive so I don't have much else I can opt for.
>>

Function layers where invented for small space equipment that really could not be made bigger, not like a half ass keyboard.

>>
>>53489931
I'd imagine that you'd put it on the stem of the switch, though it probably wouldn't make a huge difference since it's just about getting something between the keycap and switch stem rather than actually sticking things together.
>>
>>53489931
You're just thickening the stabilizer so tape side down, right? Not 100% sure what you're doing
>>
>>53490046

If the cap is loose, when you touchtype and you tend to hit the key at an angle or on the edges, that makes it wobble to the point it subtly comes off the stem and you start losing strokes. You put a small bit of tape on the stem to make it thicker so that it doesn't slip off.

Hah!
I ordered a set of Vortex Nordic ISO keycaps back in December, but they never arrived and I didn't get any response from the retailer in the 7 messages I sent on their site, email, FB and finally through paypal. So I escalated it to a Paypal claim and finally got my money back some weeks ago. Then I bought the same set on amazon and they arrived two days later.

And now the first set from December arrived. Woop, free keycaps.

Don't buy from corus-kb though, they don't respond at all - buy their stuff through amazon instead.
>>

I just ordered one of these. It has black switches, but it's the only model with 24 keys and actual cherry switches.
But I need some custom keycaps. Are there any places that make proper quality PBT custom caps where you can buy 1 at a time? The WASDkeyboards ones are apparently kinda shitty quality.

Anybody else have separate numpads or macroboards like this?
>>
>>53490711
a hackwire is a wire added to a pcb as an afterthought, to connect things that weren't originally planned to be connected, aka to create a hack. a normal wire is just that, a wire used to connect some components to one another.
>>
>>53485403
>I use numbad on daily basic...
Hello Spurdo
>>
>>53490955
There's pimpmykeyboard, they sell blank key packs but it's not exactly cheap.
Other than that there's not much to do other than harvesting from another set. Sometimes you can find separate numpad packs.
There's not enough of a market for fully custom sets and the manufacturing and sorting process gets pretty expensive. If it weren't for the cheap material and printing WASD uses they would probably charge double.
>>
Bought my first mechanical keyboard today (tt poseidon, old version which comes with cherry blues)

I thought the blues would feel harder to press but they turned out to be lighter than my standard rubber dome keyboard. I can't even imagine what red switches would feel like. Loving the click sound tho.

>>

Yeah, I think I might just end up buying a full blank set and salvage from that, but it just kinda feels like a waste.

Can anybody recommend some good full sets of blank PBT caps? Layout doesn't matter in this case, but I'd prefer OEM profile.

Need some advice on mechanical keyboard choices. I'm looking for a bunch of specific shite so modding will probably be a requirement and price is no issue. Here's what I'm looking for; a TKL formfactor, Cherry MX Clears, sound dampeners, removable cable (to be replaced with flat USB micro-B), LED solder points, front side printed keycaps (preferably double shot, material doesn't matter too much), solid construction (plate mounted switches) and lastly a lack of obnoxious branding.
