hey /g/ i'm going off to college and i'm wondering what kind of laptop would you recommend that works well with gaming, social media, and just school work, that i can get for under 2,500$
>>
Check out sager over at xoticpc, pretty customizable and the different model numbers are essentially different gpus and peripherals. Quality shit.

Dell Xps 15, although it's more of a workstation than gaming computer, it can do some games at decent fps.

Wish I was as spoiled as you.
>>
Nigger. Just buy a cheap Chromebook for classes and build a PC for your dorm.
>>
>>53476782
Is this bait? $2500 gets you whatever the fuck you want, it had better blow you for that kind of cash. You can get what you're describing for a shitload less.

Look at literally any high-end laptop with a dedicated GPU, you can probably afford it.

consider using this

You can never go wrong with Alienware. Ignore the may mays on this website.

How about instead of wasting time and money on gaming and social media, you just get your degree?

I have a more reasonable question:

Quality laptop brands in the 900$-1200$ range?
In your opinion, of course!

I am looking for something mainly for programing and studying, while being able to game on it a little as well (nothing like high end current gen graphics, mind you), while being robust, and practical.

m.ebay.com/itm/GIGABYTE-P35Xv5-V5-15-6-Core-i7-6700HQ-GTX-980M-Gaming-Laptop-Customizable-/161755412995

You can get an 8gb 980m and 16gb ram/1tb hdd/256gb ssd/i7-4720HQ gigabyte lappy for $1750. More than you'll ever need for the next couple of years. I suppose you can get 5th generation i7 cpus with 2k but it would be a bit compromising (less graphics memory, heavy etc). Gigabyte really does a fantastoc job of keeping things light. Look for gigabyte laptops. You get get a rog laptop with 4gb of vram on a 980m for $1620. Rogs are better in that they have more usb 3.0 ports and also a thunderbolt port as well as vsync support. Bit heavier and less aesthetic.

www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-763BLK-Full-HD-GeForce/dp/B015PYYDMQ

Is pretty nice actually. Tons of reviews. Dell is alright esp xps series, HPs are housefires generally but the elitebooks are alright. Acer nitros are also good. ROG for price/performance but loses the aesthetics game.

I've been making desktop computer for my and friends and family for half of my life, so i am quite knowledgeble about what specs i need for what. But since one, most of the time, cant buy individual components for laptops, i am at a loss for wihich brands are good, and which are overpriced.

some googling pointed everything to asus and dell, and i am probably going to buy a dell. Thank you for your response!

Get a Dell XPS 13/15 for class and build yourself a gayman rig for the rest of the budget.
>>
>>53478247
Anything with a big battery for its dedicated card and then disabling it and running on the intel.

XPS 15 is gud
>>
>>53482286
XPS has a GTX 960M these days, good enough for almost all games.
>>
>>53482313
It's about as fast as a 750. Not that great. Also the screen has horrible reaction time for gaymin. Blurriest shit I've seen in a long time.

I mostly use it for learning and shitposting so it's alright.
>>
>>53476782
Asus ROG or Alienware
Saeger is massive overkill (they support full GTX 980s through MXM)
>>
>>53482395
But at least their GPUs are upgradeable.
>>
Just buy a good laptop with good battery life for 500$ and build a desktop computer for only 1000$.
>>
>>53476814
This. OP could leave them in the lecture halls and never have to carry one. Nobody bothers stealing thinkpads anyways.
>>
The XPS 15. Basically a macbook but cheaper and it has a 960m for light gaming. Enjoy.

>classes
Seriously interested, what do americans do with laptops in their classes?
>>
Assuming you are gonna be gaming at home. Get a T420 with an SSD and 2 9 cell batteries. This should be about 600$ total using EBay for the T420 and amazon for the batteries and SSD. This gives you 1900$ to either save or build a gaming rig. Either that or get an XPS 15 or a Razor laptop.
>>
>>53483083
Literally everything. I'm joking of course, but we takes notes, write papers, read online text books, etc. Laptops are almost essential for college these days.
>>
>>53483110
I guess it can make sense.

Here in Bosnia we usually don't take notes, there is no homework in the for of papers, essays and such and more often than not you're required to buy the professor's textbook as a passing condition.

Why would he need a gaming rig when he has the following on a laptop:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233132&cm_re=gtx_980m-_-34-233-132-_-Product

17.3" IPS Screen
i7 6700HQ
16 GB Memory
1 TB HDD
256 GB SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 8 GB GDDR5
Windows 10 Home

For $2000 or

$1600 for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233116&cm_re=gtx_980m-_-34-233-116-_-Product

15.3" IPS Screen
i7 5700HQ
16 GB DDR3L RAM
1TB HDD
128 GB SSD
GTX 980M 8 GB DDR5

Would beat most desktops out there. Sure you could build a really high end desktop with that kind of money but for $1600 it's pretty damn good. It's also very light at about 5lbs relative to other gaming laptops as well as not having any of those gamer tier stickers and shit like that. Guess you could throw in DDR4 if it supports it but honestly there's hardly any need for that if you won't be using it as a ram disk.
