Studying for Network+ in Community College right now

Everyone of my colleagues laughs at A+ cert, also saying that an employer expects that you've done shit with that cert unlike Network+

Sorta having a hard time believing that for Net+. Is getting a job easier with just having the Network+ Cert or is it all the same?

2.5 is my years of experience

Recently I moved into a well-paying healthcare IT job but the org is stuck in the stone age and the work isn't as technical as I'd like.

I hate networking, but my previous job I did a lot of Linux sysadmin stuff, some helpdesk/tech support and mostly did high-level work with applications - data analytics, IPS, ticketing, etc. I really enjoyed this work and want to get back into it, but don't know exactly what to call it. What the hell would this position be called? What job titles should I be looking for to recapture this?

I've only been working for a couple years and I have the impression "sysadmin" means "here is your server, hope you like SSH faggot" 40 hours a week for eternity. Am I wrong?

Doubt your just going to slide into a network admin position without experience. That's where A + comes in at. Entry level experience.

This stuff a good starting place for a non-CS major who'll probably end up working with computers anyway? https://store.boingboing.net/sales/pay-what-you-want-learn-to-code-bundle-1adc78b4-aae9-4bc9-bed4-f2f71bff233f?utm_source=boingboing.net&utm_medium=dealfeed-Right-Sidebar&utm_campaign=pay-what-you-want-learn-to-code-bundle-1adc78b4-aae9-4bc9-bed4-f2f71bff233f

There's also a white-hat hacking bundle, BTW.

I'm interviewing tomorrow for a game dev intern position, and they're going to be reviewing me on C++. The company makes casino games, like for slot machines I guess? I've only started learning C++ for a little while and I'm still trying to get a hang of OOP style coding. Previously I've done C almost entirely. What should I study? How to make simple games like pong and breakout? Data structures?

You made the mistake of getting over certified, red flags everywhere
>>
>>53476359
Too many certs with no experience, you fucked up.
>>
>>53477566
Where are you from?
>>
>>53470914

All certs are useless. Just do the reading and start a home lab with the money you save.
>>
>>53478569
Certs get you through the HR filter, also getting a cert is a good way to brush up on skills.
>>
>>53478585

Do you really want to work for a company that hires based on what pieces of paper a person has?
>>
>>53478602
some people don't live where they have an alternative to that.
>>
>>53478602
It kinda shows youre willing to invest in your career. Not a bad quality. Its like having a minimum GPA requirement for an out of college job.

I want to get started on the path to database admin work. I don't know how feasible that is I work with data and maps all day long and I want to keep building my skillset.

Is there any specific certs to be looking out for? Right now I'm good on python and R but that's about it outside my normal work.
>>
>>53478632

In more cases than not it means some a normie heard there was money in fixing computers and studied brain dumps for a month to pass a certification test, resulting in a waste of air that can't troubleshoot his way out of a wet paper bag.

>>53478602

Bachelors in electrical and computer engineering.

I applied several times, was rejected for about a year then finally got an interview. That interview led to a job.

That's only the case when you have certs and no experience.

A sysadmin with an MCSE and RHCE doesn't look out of place.

Also good luck being a net admin without cisco certs.
>>
>>53478669
This is also totally posible, but would get weeded out quick in a technical interview.

But I don't totally disagree, if a company throws out your resume despite relevant experience w/o an interview, thats slightly fucked.

What can I realistically do after getting the security+ and the linux+ along with my current net+ and a+ given that I have no degree, and little to no experience?
>>
>>53478758
Depends what you want to do. You could probably land a helpdesk, or finangle your way into some kind of security or systems analyst internship and turn it into a job
>>
>>53478722
>This is also totally posible, but would get weeded out quick in a technical interview

If I'm interviewing at a company and I don't get a technical interview, I walk. I would rather flip burgers than babysit professional students and individuals who only know how to pass certification exams.

Buy a+, net+, and sec+ cert 'all in one' study guides to learn the basics, search hard for positions that are willing to accept someone with little knowledge. It will be hard but you have to start somewhere.

Honestly, the net+ is just alright, A+ is also just alright. If you're focusing on networking for the CCNA. But more importantly find an entry level networking job WHILE you're studying.

Maybe I'll see you at Cisco live this year Mr. O. Wendell lol.

It's already fucking implied. I found a networking job BEFORE I had networking experience. Either New Zealand sucks or you do.
>>
>>53479532

Yeah 19/hr is not bad for my job, a lot of people apply for this job knowing the pay so I got lucky getting it. Most jobs of this type in my area pay like $12/hr
