Is it possible to create a harddrive which will automatically encrypt all received data via hardware without losing much in speed, or are we forever doomed to use software methods?
retard
how are you supposed to decrypt it?
>>53456751
it's tim cuck, don't you see? baka senpai yare yare
>>53456617
those anal beads are fucking gigantic
>>53456617
Why???
Modern CPUs have dedicated AES hardware anyway
>>53457112
That's aint no thing man. Check this shit out: https://videos.toypics.net/view/4348/xl-trex-hilted-2/
>>53456735
It encrypts and decrypts itself within the microprocessor
>>53457162
then anyone with it could just plug it in and the shit would be decrypted.
that's retarded.
>>53457162
and what stops anyone from taking the HDDand using it in their computer?
SSDs encrypt all data upon write. When you format one you're not overwriting the data but actually changing to a different encryption key, rendering all current data useless
>>53457208
source?
>>53457112
For you.
>>53457241
>>53457241
I don't know anything about SSD but that's how LUKS works in Linux. cryptsetup luksErase deletes the keys and the disk contents remain the same. I think what remains looks like random bits.
>>53457208
That's not true lol
>>53456617
Self-Encrypting Drives have been around for years
>>53457345
>lol
And all credibility just went out the window
>>53457194
>>53457196
you need a password
>>53457431
and how are you going to input the password without software?
>>53457461
its all built in homselice
>>53457535
>open pc case
>boot pc
>quickly type in password on keyboard on the hdd????
>damn too slow, bios didn't detect boot disk
>????
>????
????
>>53457376
as opposed to the other guy's well cited claim.
>>53458469
Out of two sourceless claims, the one that doesn't type like a twelve year old is more credible.
>>53456617
How would you know the hardware implementation isn't backdoored or shitty?
>>53459147
it would be :^(

>Is it possible to create a harddrive which will automatically encrypt all received data via hardware without losing much in speed
They already exist, but I forget the name for the technology. It's not experimental, you can go buy one right now. They're pretty cheap too.
>>53459574
Oh, here we go: SED - Self-Encrypting Drive.

>>53457147
honestly that's quite impressive
>>53459624
Hes a fucking madman.
I wish I were as great
>>53456617
>>53457112
>>53457147
>>53459624
>>53459641
/g/ - aaaaaaaay
Also, damn.
>>53457112
Imagine rip-cording that beast
>>53456617
You mean like an SSD?
>>53457461
Something like this within the harddrive?
1. Yes.
2. Your drive probably does this already
Drives have AES-256 hardware acceleration nowadays.
If you want to trust NSA-256 hardware that's up to you though.
>>53456617
But this already exists for like the past 10 years.
