Sysadmins, what distro do you have installed on your home PC, Fedora or Debian?
Debian Jessie
>There are only 2 Linux distrobutions
>>53455208
But there are just those two
>but ubuntu and mint and arch and gentoo
NANANANA I CANT HEAR YOU OVER MY 2 DISTROS
windows 10
>>53455208
we are talking real sysadmins here, so only DEB/RPM matter as there's nothing else for enterprise.
>>53455197
Debian because it has great support for end-user platforms like Valve, and jetbrains.
I still really like fedora though.
Both are great distros.
>>53455197
Debian, always.
>>53455197
the question should be debian or centos/rhel .. why the fuck did you choose fedora ?
>>53455208
there are only 2 linux distributions that matter in the real world
>>53455255
>sysadmins
where is the fucking centos/RHEL then, or ubuntu. I mean Linus uses fedora but he himself admits he sucks at system management. That concludes the list of famous people i know using fedora.
>>53455304
Fedora is owned by Redhat. RHEL is based off fedora, and centos is basically just the open source version of RHEL.
>>53455327
>RHEL is based off fedora
You've got that backwards, mate. Fedora is just beta-testing RHEL.
>>53455327
Sysadmins should install/use a distro that is a testbed for parts of the designated sysadmin distro? Fedora is for people who want to develop shit, not sysadmins who need stable and supported distro
>>53455197
Debian. Anything media related is a major pain in the ass on EL, and Fedora is 3 fast 5 my desktop.
>>53455413
That's what I meant.
>>53455208
Those are the only two distros used at the enterprise levels.
99% RHEL 1% Debian
>>53455449
Who the fuck uses Centos for their home PC? Your home PC doesn't need the stability that comes with ancient packages
>>53455514
>look at me mom, im a sysadmin on my home PC!!
just die pls
>>53455495
RHEL and CentOS, mind you.
>>53455514
CentOS with backports is a perfectly usable setup.
I am going to get an old laptop back from my mum because I bought her a new one. Was going to take windows off it and install one of these distros.
I do web development, but at work I use a Mac. At home I have windows due to vidya, and develop in a linux VM.
I'm currently torn between Debian and Fedora. I know the name of the latter shouldn't be influencing my decision, but it is.
fedora
>>53455546
>CentOS with backports is a perfectly usable setup.
nope, only currently works because EL7 is relatively new.
EPEL is still shit tho and you are better off with proper Fedora.
>>53455327
>and centos is basically just the open source version of RHEL.
You do realize that RHEL itself is open source, right?
>>53456543
>free as in free beer version of RHEL
>>53455197
pretty comfy senpai.
>>53456543
They don't let you use their repositories without a license.
Got sid on my home computer, oldstable on servers.

I used CentOS for about 2 months on my laptop. Nothing worked inherently, I had to compile a lot of stuff, but it's perfectly usable. Honestly if you do a minimal install with CentOS it's more entertaining than installing Arch.
