What is da Vinci resolve? It's free and some of the best software out there period. I use studio because I have the BMCC but really the lite version is pretty functional as is. I've completely ported from PP to Da Vinci for all edits.

Tried this. Found it to be annoying as all hell if you want to edit a "longer" clip. And I hate that it seems to lack a proper cutting tool. Might just be that I have not used it long enough so I have not found all things it can do. But as of right now it feels like a work in progress program.

Blender is the only decent free production software.
For normal people, Premiere Pro features like a 1000 more posibilitys than they will ever use. It's good enough for them. Must be pirated though. Everything after CS6 seems like it actually can't be pirated. RIP.
Sony Vegas is not quite as good as Premiere pro but it's up there. Rich people might buy it.
Final cut pro, Pinnacle Studio, Edius are rather cheap solutions that work somewhat good enough. You can actually buy these without being in debt for the rest of your life.
Actual pros use AVID, sometimes Lightworks.
