>IT/SE/CS monkeys will never know the pleasure of REAL MATH
>Nor will they ever know the pleasures of an unpaid for woman

My deepest condolences

What is real math and how does it differ from the courses I am taking as electives at the math department?
>>

> real math
so calculus, linear algebra, theory of computation, statistics are fake math?

Calculus is babby math
Linear algebra might be babby depending on your course
Theory of computation is very babby at the undergrad level
Statistics is babby unless you did measure theory
>>
>>53445393
Eh, I did math in undergrad up to real analysis, decided after that point that while it was interested, studying math past that point was basically wanking.

Most professional mathematicians never discover anything of worth, and the few of those who do make their biggest findings before age 35 then spend the rest of their lives being wash-ups.

No thanks.

>so calculus, linear algebra, theory of computation, statistics are fake math?

Of course,
>there aren't any real numbers in real life,
>there aren't n-dimensions in real life,
>there is never "infinite memory" in real life,
>and statistics always lie with p<0.05
>>
>>53447156
If you did a proper stats course, you wouldn't be using p-values that way
>>
>>53447029
>>53447156
At least, these topics are useful.
What do we have of useful in pure mathematics nowadays?

You literally stopped right before it gets gud. Measure theory, harmonic analysis, functional analysis, and complex analysis are the most useful shit ever.
>>
>>53447348
A subgroup analysis leads me to suspect that you are a statsfag

I'm well aware that complex analysis etc. have produced highly practical results in the forms of theories, transforms, etc., but I am free to use all of those without needing to spend hundreds if not thousands of hours trudging through the proofs myself.

Just because something is interesting doesn't necessarily mean it's the best use of such a large block of time.

99% of Math grads will end up as code monkeys though, so there is that.

Yes because you lack the ability to prove things, that is real math. You are nothing but a retarded imp that copies formulas and pushes around symbols to compute answers a computer actually would in the real world. You do not know why a theorem is correct, for all you know it is false, but you drone on in your ignorance. You are and always will be mediocre. Because you don't understand anything and show its validity you will never be able to contribute to the field.
>>
>>53453596
enjoy not hitting the workforce until you're 30 and having contributed nothing of worth to the field.
for >90% of people, pure math is wanking just half a notch better than philosophy.

>>>/sci/

>>53453596
i agree with these things. based on personal experience, the people who learn pure math e.g. pmath minor are a cut above the rest desu.

We all pay for women. Some with fancy dinners and a movie, others more directly.
