Is Office 2016 purposely fucking compatibility with other work processing/spreadsheet software?

My wife does the budget, and every month emails me a copy (pic related). She recently 'upgraded' her laptop to Windows 10 and bought Office 2016. Ever since I have been unable to open spreadsheets with LibreOffice, even when the file is saved to a XLS 2013 file (the format we've always used) and when 'Compatibility' mode is ticked. The only way I've sort of managed to do it is by uploading the file to google docs and using their 'sheets' thingy. I don't really like that because it allows Google to see my budget, which I'm not too keen on, and looses some functionality, like the basic equations.

Google shows a few people having the same problem, but no solution.

Any advice? It's really annoying not being able to share simple stuff like monthly budget.

Yes.
>>
>>53443636
Yes
>>
>>53443636
try those open formats in office
they should work
>>
>>53443682

>>53443682

Fucking why though? It's not like everyone is going to switch to Office 2016 and Windows 10 just because Microsoft purposely fuck the competition.

I hope anyway.

>>53443757

Sorry, I haven't just tried 2013 XLS files, I've tried pretty much everything, including non-proprietary file formats. Most don't open, some do but lose all formatting.

When I've tried to open it on her laptop it displays fine though, even the files I can't open.
>>
Make her save i in the format you want you cuck
You can even make a template if she's too dumb to change it

cumputer?
>>

I have to pay my ex-wife money for my eldest daughter. That's doesn't make me a cuck.

you need to be 18+ to post here
>>>/out/
>>
>>53443901

I've tried every format available and LibreOffice either won't open in the case of Microsoft Office extensions, or display incorrectly on a handful of non-proprietary formats.
>>
>>53443973
>>53443901

Might I also add if I make a file in Open Office, send it to my wife it will display correctly, if she then saves it, and send it back to me without making any changes it will fail to open on my computer no matter the format. No change should have happened to the file, so I can only assume Office 2016 is purposely changing comparability with non-Office software.
>>
>>53443636
Pff, Office 2016 on Windows fucks the compatibility with Office 2016 on Mac for me, so I just assume that it's the software being bad and not intentional.
>>
>>53443636
>>53444028

Thats....retarded.

Bravo Microsoft
>>
>>53444063
Sad thing is that it's still the best looking text editor, Softmake Office beats Word at functionality already ... but it looks like a dog shit all over the UI.
>>
>>53444078
>>53444063

I guess I'm just going to have to buy Office 2016 if I don't want my budget/files to stop working.

Fucking Microsoft.
>>

Do you even KMS?
>>

>Softmake Office beats Word at functionality already
How so?
>>
>>53444108

I have no idea what that means...
>>
Just get her to use libreoffice idiot
>>
>>53444155

Libreoffice looks like shit compared to Office 2016 though, she'd never do it. Will be easier for me to just buy 2016.

Shame though.
>>
>>53443636
>Is Office 2016 purposely fucking compatibility with other work processing/spreadsheet software?

Yes. Also, it's buggy as shit.

There are bugs in Word that have been around since before I was in college in the late 1990s. No joke. It's horrifying.

But hey, at least they have the Ribbon UI and nauseating, weird side-scrolling effects in Word (I literally get ill trying to read a document in recent Word).

>Softmake Office
Unless it has something better than VBA, it doesn't.
>>
>>53444155
I installed libreoffice for my mom a few weeks ago, but it looks completely broken on hdpi screens.
>>
>>53444217
Weird, I am using it on Retina Macbook and it looks fine.
>>
>>53444234
icons were extremely blurry and all over the place with weird graphical glitches.
it was on windows though.
>>
>>53444216
anything is better than VBA
>hey guys what if we made a strongly typed language but then we invented our own type that could be anything
>also what if we made this language like literally 1000x slower than fucking python
>HEY GUYS WHAT IF WE PUT THE ARGUMENTS FOR ARCTAN THE WRONG WAY AROUND JUST TO FUCK WITH PEOPLE TRYING TO PORT SHITTY FUCKING VBA SCRIPTS TO ANOTHER LANGUAGE
genius

ontopic, try kingsoft\WPS office. it's a bit light on functionality, but it has a much better UI than libreoffice, and better compatibility too
>>
>>53444201

I like the way office 2016 looks, I like that is links up to OneDrive, and I like the general feel of it much more than any other Office version I've used. It's pretty much the the best version they've made.

Except it fucks compatibility.

I've loved Excel ever since Excel 97, in school we used some weird method to turn it into a flight simulator. It was kinda cool.
>>
>>53444250
You haven't answered the question.
>>
>>53444314
i'm not here just to answer your stupid questions
>>
don't even try to edit any OOXML files (xlsx docx pptx) in anything that is not Word 2010 or later. MS calls it an open format but then deliberately fucks with it to make it inoperable with other editors.

tl;dr go into MS Office's settings and make it use ODF formats like .odt .ods by default.
>>
>>53444323
Don't claim such bullshit then.

You gave in in just under 30 minutes.

Is ms office 2016 the same as Windows 10/with baked in spying ?
>>

ok. i ported VBA to other languages for my job, but i bow to your superior intellect.
>>
>>53444307

How's it any different from just saving your files to Dropbox? I honestly have no idea why anyone would want OneDrive when they (most likely) already have Dropbox.

>Except it fucks compatibility.

I've never used a version of Office that didn't fuck up compatibility.

>anything is better than VBA

VBA -- still -- allows tremendous productivity. Like, ridiculous levels.

It's also the highest paying (hourly) language out there, thanks to all the businesses that are heavily invested in existing VBA solutions.

I used to laugh at VBA and "macro hackers". Then I realized that I was spending weeks in C++ creating business value that those dumbasses were pumping out in a single afternoon.

I....oh fuck

Fucking Microsoft.

This is why they do shit like this.
>>
>>53443636
this has been happening with *every* new version of Microsoft Office since forever ago, but it's saddening to hear that they *still* have no intention of changing their ways. I guess there's just not enough people that care.
