Shill a piece of software that you like, but rarely see mentioned.
I'll start with Windows Firewall Control. It makes the default firewall actually useful, by adding notifications for outgoing programs (where you can allow or block, permanently or temporarily), a full connection log and a nice interface for managing rules. It's also extremely light on resources and unintrusive.
Tinywall does most of this, but doesn't have a notifications system, which is what I really wanted. The amount of programs I've noticed making connections when they don't need to is crazy. Even something like Speccy tries to connect to the internet, despite automatic updates being turned off. Almost everything is a botnet it seems.
The only downside is that it costs $10 to unlock the notifications part, but at least it's a one-off "donation" for a lifetime license on as many machines as you want.
