Why don't we have these yet?
>>
What's the point?

Anotherfag here.
For one, it would be an actual technological feature that would make an impact in the watch industry unlike these digital watch memes. This is why i always shit on Apple and other idiots for tackling the watch sector too early, without understanding the extent of change they have to bring to have any relevance in it.
Basically a mobile phone around your wrist that can shit out a holographic projection in the air, or few if you are a multi-monitor fag, which can be manipulated to an extent.

No more of that shit about having a heart attack every time your drop your phone.
No more of that shit about finger reach on phones.
No more of that "not enough screen size" shit.

It would also revolutionize laptops (by simply having a keyboard like those old retro computers) which can shit out a holoscreen or few.

Gathered the battery issue would have to be resolved,
and it would be preferable to have a real monitor at home with proper coloring and shit,
but for portable devices this is a Heaven-sent technology.

Sounds like a gimick

Also no more greasy fingers smearing a screen.
If i could have pic related shit out holoscreens out of that cartridge slot area, i'd be happy.

>>53430972
It's as much of a gimmick as it is also productive for a user.
It has too many positive functions.
You could also use it as a flashlight of sort in dark spaces if you really want it to be gimmicky.
>>
>>53430933
This will be done with Google glasses. Shooting lasers from your wrist is dangerous.
>>
>>53430749
Hololens?
>>
>>53430749
Technical limitations. We don't have a way of suspending light in mid air without some sort of surface.
>>
>>53431019
>Also no more greasy fingers smearing a screen.

YES!!!
>>
>>53431232
Can't they just use magnets or some shit?
>>
>>53431471
right, and how would you power that?
>>
>>53430749
>running windows on my halo-monitor
>>
>>53431534
How much power are we talking?
>>
>>53431232
You would have to find out some way to charge a light photon.
>>
>>53431641
enough to make anything battery powered impossible, at least with current battery technology

truth is, better battery tech exists already, but it won't get adopted because literally the whole battery industry would go to hell and lose most of their profits, so it will never get adopted
>>
>Transparent screens

When will the meme end?
>>
>>53430749
Because it's hard to make lights in thin air in one specific location.

The best we have for holograms is some Japanese tech that is literally harmful to humans if you stand near where it's making light appear and it's only capable of doing like one color.

Honestly, AR like hololens will be the closest you can get for probably another 2 decades+
>>
Because that's impossible unless you modify the properties of air (IE inject smoke or fog), or use a high power laser to ionize air.

The second part has the possibility of blinding you and generates air pollution
>>
>>53431694
Also the current Japanese shit is like the size of a coffee table and it can only do really little and simple things.
>>
>>53431679
>transparent screens
>holographs

Pick one you massive faggot.
>>
>>53430749
There are see-through glass? screens. Saw one at CES, from SHARP.
>>
>>53431741
See through glass screens are just a shiny gimmick. A holograph would have huge amounts of useful applications.

Holograms are not screens. Screens are 2D. Holograms are not.
>>
>>53431862
It's a step in the right direction, now just need to figure out how to use regular air instead of some solid material.
>>
are people on /g/ really this retarded to think that a hologram is a see through screen?
>>
>>53430749

Because when I look at a screen I dont give a shit about what's on the other side of it.
>>

>>53431862
Holograms require you to be looking at a screen. A hologram needs to have a screen behind it / in front of it, from any perspective where the hologram is visible. If your display technology doesn't have a screen to back it up in it this way, it's not a hologram, it's Star-wars-level bullshit right up there with FTL travel and essentially physically impossible.

But any conversation about anything remotely related is always plagued by retards that appear to willingly ignore this fact. Don't be one of those retards. Please.
>>
>>53431895
look at the picture. you can see from behind the screen
>>
Why would you want everyone to see what you are doing?
>>
>>53431885
Except there already is ways, it's just highly dangerous.

>>53431992
An ignorant poster calling others ignorant.

Educate yourself on ionization of air. http://gajitz.com/lasers-ionize-mid-air-molecules-to-make-moving-holograms/

>comparing the research of visual technology with FTL in complexity
Aren't you the one who is a retard over here? I'm sure planes were also "out there with FTL" before they were invented and now we have skies filled with them.
Scientists already managed to slow down a photon to beneath-the-speed-of-light.
There's no reason to think that there isn't some way for holographic displays to work with light or something suspended in air, without a screen foil behind it acting as a surface.
In the worst case scenario there can be wire technology with two wires shooting out of your fucking wrist device and using the recent advances in material manipulation to stand firm in any form and create an image in-between them.

Don't go exaggerating the difficulty of something to such a retarded level.
>>
>>53432061
How can we discuss a technology if there are no prototypes, concepts, schema nor even hypothetical examples?
>>
>>53432084
>>53431992
http://qz.com/438880/scientists-have-created-3d-holograms-that-you-can-touch/

Because the science fiction stuff is too hard to wrap your head around for /g/. Screens are easier and we can meme about framers test and other stuff
>>
>>53432083
>or something suspended in air

What about gluons?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluon
>>
Stargate Atlantis holographic computer displays always looked so transparent. Is that how they look in real life? Are they dense high resolution or airy?
