What does /g/ think about powerline networking adapters?
>>
I use a set for extending my wifi into my living room. Justwerkz/10
>>
I use them, they are fairly reliable but add a bit of latency which jumps up and down I guess depending on interference, but I'm not a gamer so idc

Pretty neat, I use it to have a way to get internet upstairs. Using a gigabit model, I get from about ~180mbps downstairs, ~80mbps upstairs (using wifi extending this would just be 8mbps)
>>
>>53429365
I think they're a good solution for those who are unable to run an ethernet cable and don't care how well it works.
>>
>>53429365
They're a good solution if your house is new. I've found that older houses' wiring can't handle it.
>>
>>53429365
use it for the second set of IPTV upstairs..

just works, I have no idea how.

Also i think i can't use the powerline for any of the other stuff now (another network line,etc..)
>>
If you truly are a cuck that lives in a place where he doesn't have permission to run cables in the walls himself, then I guess they're OK. Just OK though.

>>53429365
You do know they just create a custom frequency radio wave network between the two, not over actual power lines...
>>
Running cable will always be better, but at least they are better than wireless.

They greatly depend on how good your home's electrical install is, you are out of luck in an old building.

Nice bait. Try reading Wikipedia first.
>>
>>53429365
Mine created some annoying noise.
>>
>>53430336
My gigabit wireless blows this to fuck. It's useless tech for retards.
>>
>>53430511
Yup, did. Don't try to bait me faggot.
>>
>>53429995
>implying it's easier or cheaper to rip open your walls to fit a cable than to plug in a device.
>>
>>53430288
>>53430643

Please be retarded somewhere else.
>>
My house is 150 years old
Why do you think I want to Three Stooge it and rip up my walls to find deerskin just for a bunch of shitty cat5/cat6 wiring?
>5 minutes of installing AFTER buying adapters
vs
>5 weeks of remodeling my fucking house for internet cables
get the fuck out
>>
>>53430288
1/10
>>
>>53429365
They don't always work. If you have a house you should be fine but I've had friends grab them for apartments only to find they couldn't connect to each other.
Honestly you're better off buying a good 802.11ac access point (especially if you get a wave 2 one).
>>
>>53430836
Or you could use 5ghz wifi like a smart person
>>
>>53430288
wat r you even talking about
>>
>>53429365
I use one and it works just like Ethernet. I don't really have issues unless someone else is streaming something
>>
>>53430869
>150 year old house
>5ghz wifi capability
i spent $80 on a powerline set 5 years ago
>still works, thanks for asking
>>
>>53430923
Do you have lead panelling in your walls?

>create a custom frequency radio wave network
Slight problem with that theory.
>>
>>53430934
Older houses can have metal meshes that act as Faraday cages. The meshes were used for plaster.
>>
>>53430950
Only in Murrika. Europoors don't have this problem.
>>
>>53430903
>>53430849
>>53430776
They are like WiFi hotspots
>>
>>53430551
Sure. Wonder how gigabyte your wireless is after 5-6 solid brick walls and a concrete ceiling over approx 50-60m. Not everybody lives in an american cardboard house.
>>
They're alright, but don't go for the cheap ones.
I'd still recommend running Cat6.

>>53430836
... And you don't have to rip your house apart, you can just run it down from the attic and along the baseboards with clips.
>>
>>53431165
Sorry but I don't live in 60m long houses that use concrete for all their walls.

Maybe you should upgrade from being poor
>>
>>53431099
What frequency do they operate at? RF communication is the antithesis of going wired. It makes no sense.
