What Apple products do you own?
what would you rate them and how many apple products do you own
>>
MacBook unibody core2duo.
Just werks after 10 years/10
>>
>>53427222
I own 0 right now, and would highly recommend that to everyone.

I used to own two iPod Touches (both of which were complete shit after Apple's forced obsolescence patches went out), which I mainly used for playing music, but my phone does all that now so I no longer have a need for any Apple products.

iPhone 6s+ - 9/10
13" rMBP - 1/10

Macs are fucking garbage, mostly because Yosemite ruined OSX's efficiency and El Capitan did jack shit to fix it.
iPhone is good only because everything else out there is fucking garbage, if everything out there was a newer version of Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm OS, it would also get a 1/10.
>>
I had an iPod Touch 4G. It was acceptable but died because of moisture.
>>
the current iPad Air
which is the best tablet I ever owned.
>>
rMBP 15'' 10/10 computer
iPhone 5S 8/10 phone
>>
rMBP (2014) - 9/10 - hasn't let me down, great screen, battery life and powerful enough to do everything i need. Bonus for somewhat usable UNIX.

iPhone 6s Plus - 8/10 - great screen, battery life. Just Werks. Only 8/10 because i'm still waiting for jailbreak.

iPad Mini 2 - 9/10
>>
>>53427222
iPhone 6
After using two different Android phones and fiddling around with custom ROMs I wanted something that just werks and that's what it does

There are some shortcomings though so 8/10
>>
13" Macbook Air - 8/10, bought it in 2012 so screen wasn't THAT bad but still the most obvious flaw about it together with the huge bezels. Hated OS first but appreciate it over Loonix and Winshit cancer now. Never had any problems and it just werks (tm)

12" Macbook - 11/9, best piece of consumer hardware ever made.

Planning to get either 64gb 5s or 32GB SE this month but heard 3D touch is pretty useful so considering a 6S too ... although the price is fucking crazy.

>>53427313

How?

Glad I don't have any, don't want to be in their shitty ecosystem.

rMBP 13'' 2015 > 9/10
rMBP 15'' 2015 (work laptop) > 7.5/10
apple wireless keyboard > 7-8/10
>>
>>53427222
2015 15" rMBP. The only good thing Apple makes. 9/10.

>>53427313
It's actually quite the opposite. iPhones are fucking trash because any ohter flagship out there is so much better, mate.
>>
I have an iPod from 2005.
>>
>>53427818
>heard 3D touch is pretty useful
Not really, haven't used it much at all on my 6s+ to be honest. 2GB RAM over the 1GB on previous devices is really fucking essential though.

>Yosemite ruined OSX's efficiency
Much lower battery life, runs hotter, UI stutters so much compared to Mavericks. Full reinstalls do nothing.
>>
>>53427622
> somewhat usable UNIX

as a senior dev working on it for the last 2 years, that's definitely 100% usable, never had an issue or something that couldn't be done, anyway you mostly work via ssh on servers and use terminal for development / testing
>>
>>53427222

13" rMBP - 9/10
iPhone 5c - 7/10
>>
>>53427885
>Not really, haven't used it much at all on my 6s+ to be honest. 2GB RAM over the 1GB on previous devices is really fucking essential though.
Alright, will keep it in mind. So SE it is then.

>Much lower battery life, runs hotter, UI stutters so much compared to Mavericks.
Never had the issues. Specially Le Capitan works fine while Yosemite had slowdowns and crashes.

Is your rMBP from 2012 by any chance? If yes, it's probably just the GPU sucking cocks.

Mid 2015 15in rMBP no dGPU
Solid 8/10 [not much to compare it too, as its the first device in the 15in range I've owned. I had a 2010 13in Core 2 Duo machine before]
Doesn't handle 60fps content well at all. It seems to just scale the GPU up to its max clock speed without needing to, and it causes the die to get pretty hot, which makes the keyboard uncomfortable to use.

It doesn't ever throttle, but like I said, it get hot as hell. Regularly getting into the 90 degree C range.
You can really tell the engineers at Apple really wanted to squeeze every ounce of power out of the thermal profile, and I fear they may have sacrificed some comfort for pure power. [boost clock on cpu is 3.2GHz btw, iGPU is 1200MHz]

Very little storage space. Only 256GiB, but I have a workstation that I keep most of my bullshit on anyway. Still, I wish I had the extra space.

I think its perfect I/O wise. But I can see why many wouldn't agree.

And of course, the screen is beautiful.

iPhone 6
Low 6/10 [where a 10/10 was the 4s on launch]
I like the bigger screen, but unfortunately my manlet hands have trouble reaching the top corners of the device where the back and "done" buttons are normally located.

I'm a bit disappointed in the lightning connector this time, it doesnt seem to be as strong this time around, and one of the locking clips inside the phone that is meant to grab the male end of the connector is no longer working, so it slides out very easily and does a poor job of maintaining connection if moved slightly.
>>
iPod nano 2g - pretty neat, good battery and overall reliable.
iPhone 6 - iOS has come a long way, i've been on iOS on and off ever since the iphone 4 and I guess iOS 4, most of the limitations android never had have been either worked upon, I still miss some advanced gimmicky capabilities such as IR blaster I had on my note 3 or DSLR camera control via usb (for timelapse or w/e), but all in all it's good enough. Going back to android soon, though.
2010 17" macbook pro - too heavy, selling it.

>I've only tried two Apple products
>so everything Apple does is shit

>>
My main rig is a hackintosh. OS X just werks so I can't complain. I use it with a magic trackpad, which is amazing, the gestures functionality is really useful.

I also have a macbook pro from 2010 with an intel core duo, works well but the fans are somewhat noisy and it can't handle 1080p anime without having the fans go off.

iPhone 4 running iOS 8. I don't use it for much more than messaging, checking emails and light browsing, but it works quite well in those aspects. Though the battery has gone to shit and it needs charging every two days, even though I don't use it very much. Going to get a Moto G 3rd Gen sometime soon.

I also used to have an ipod classic (a really old), unfortunately I somehow managed to botch it when repairing a headphone jack (for the second time).

2012 RMBP.
Good shit:
Fast as hell. CPU is literally as good as top-tier consumer desktop CPUs until around 2014. SSD is only 500mb/s R/W, so not as nice as the PCIes in the later models, but still plenty fast. GPU is acceptably fast. Not anything stellar, but it plays Dark Souls and STALKER, and does machine learning stuff ok, so I'm okay with it. Screen is beautiful, of course. Colors are accurate, resolution is crazy, and there's nothing really negative to say about it (when it works.)

Bad shit:
Battery shit itself after 3 years, as did the motherboard (along with RAM + GPU + SSD problems). Display had uneven brightness and 2 dead pixels after 1 year. So, it's unreliable and a total parts replacement cost $310. After the parts replacement, everything is great again. But still, the battery shit itself after 400 or 500 cycles TOPS.

Overall 7/10, would like higher quality construction as far as reliability goes, and additionally a better GPU. I'd love to have a thicker computer with better cooling and a top-line AMD or Nvidia GPU, along with better battery. But still, overall a pretty good laptop.

iPhone 6.
Good shit:
Fast. It still beats most Android phones in 90% of the benchmarks, and subjective speed is pretty much perfect. Nothing lags. Battery life is phenomenal, I usually only charge it every other day, and even then only to around 80%. Screen is bright and nice. TouchID is pretty swell.

Bad shit:
Fuck the big screen. Fuck the ugly back. God, I hate the rounded pill design, shit is ugly. Camera is acceptably good, but nothing stellar (again, better than the alternatives, but it's not my favourite camera). Too thin. Fuck the fact that it doesn't lie flat on a table. Fuck that it shatters at the slightest drop, due to the glass covering 90% of the case. God, I hate the design of the 6.

Overall 6/10. The internals and the software rock my socks. The design is godawful in every way. It represents what I hate the most about modern phone design.

MacBook Air 10/10 main meme-machine

Iphone 6s 10/10 secondary meme-machine

Ipod touch 10/10 Solid Sound on Headphones

Ipad Air 2 Porn on the Big screen is good 5/10
>>
iPhone 4

Great battery life, great build quality, great OS, but lacks RAM and the screen is too small. 6/10

That's it
>>

junior dev here, I agree. I literally use my rMBP for its good hardware and iterm/chrome.
>>
2011 13" MBP: 10/10, best laptop I've ever owned, so good I bought 3 of them. My sibs still use them to this day.

2012 13" MBP: 9/10, slight improvement over the 2011 model, but I wish there were more

iPhone 5S: 8/10, spiritual successor to my Blackberry 9700 as my communications platform

iPod Classic: 10/10 mp3 player. Just works. Stores my entire collection.

Wireless keyboard/trackpad: 9.5/10 peripherals

Planning on getting an iPhone 6s Plus, upgrading the keyboard/trackpad, and getting a new rMBP whenever it gets announced. I'm also going to buy a 4k monitor.
>>
>>53430894

It's last update was March of 2012. 4 years old from last release.

Hard press on the keyboard and it allows you to move the text cursor. Greatest thing ever.

Macbook Air 11-inch (Early2015) - I didn't like it at first but it's grown on me. I'd never used a *nix like system before and as it turns out Bash scripting is pretty fun. I have a larger laptop at home for shit that requires actual computing power so the awful performance doesn't get to me. The high-res monitor looks nice and the computer feels nice overall. OSX is better than Win 7 imo.

Still, shit is overpriced as fuck, I paid $800 for it and it's not $800 good. The SSD boots up quick but I'd still rather have the storage capacity of an HDD. (128gb is too small) Overall I give it a 7/10

iPod Nano 1g with 1gb storage - had it since 2006 and installed rockbox on it, works better than new and holds more songs now. 10/10 it just werks
>>
>>53430992
>ackshually it's only 4 years old

>>
If I got a macbook for free, hell yeah I'd take it.

But any laptop over 600 can suck my dick.
>>
>>53431088
So you hate high resolution screens? These start at 800-900 bucks or so.
>>
>>53431123
I'm just willing to pay more for something with better CPU/GPU rather than a better display myself.

I do like retina displays but I'd rather have something that can handle heavy stuff for more than that price.

Actually I would buy a macbook, given I was much more successful. But I would either get the best model or none at all.
>>
>>53431040
I forgot to add that the battery life is phenomenal on my Air, I can get about 7 hours with constant use.
>>
2009 ipod classic 160 GB
it werks, battery life hasn't decreased noticeably in all these years, and it's endured remarkable physical punishment. I have come to realize the huge storage capacity is unnecesary though.

13 inch rmbp. Even though osx is sucking a lot of dick at the moment, it's still the best OS for work in my eyes. I hope they get their shit straight on the next version though. Yosemite and el Capitan are shit. Hell, el Capitan fucked my libnfc and rtl-sdr installations beyond repair and now I have to run a VM for those applications.

15" rMBP - 8/10, video editing monster

16gb iPhone 6s - 7/10, but slowly losing interest. Thinking about switching to Android soon.

160gb iPod classic - 10/10

32gb iPad 1st gen - 3/10, runs like shit, but alright for reading and I can jailbreak it.

3rd gen iPod touch - battery is kaput now but was my trusty mp3 player for yeats 9/10

IPad mini 2 - has an annoying dead pixel but I still use it from time if there is a game on iOS I wanna try 7/10

used to have a 5s but I only used it for a coue weeks preferred my moto x and sold it 6/10

2011 15" MBP: 5/10 literal 800mhz machine as soon as the dgpu turns on
2012 15" MBP: 8/10 throttles to between 1.5 and 2ghz, but not as bad as the 2011
2014/15 15" MBP: basically a faster 2012 that throttles a bit more
2015 15" MBP: 6/10 basically a slightly faster 2011
iphone 3g: 2/10 was 9/10 back in the day, but it barely works now
iphone 5s: 5/10 pretty fast and pretty good battery life considering how small it is, but the screen is for fucking ants
iphone 6: 6/10 it's basically a bigger and uglier 5s

>>

iPhone 4S which got really slow after updating to iOS 7 and is a real slow Piece of shit now with iOS 9.

Macbook Pro i5 from 2010, upgraded to 8 GB RAM and SSD. Works well but I've had issues with losing WiFi connections ever since upgrading to Yosemite. Love the trackpad and build quality though.

>>53427889

People often fail to realise OS X strongest point is that it probably hands down, the best development platform. Sure, Linux is great for development but be prepared to have almost no commercially supported software. Windows has a tonne of commercial software but the development environment is absolute shit, outside of VS, which has its limitations. OS X seems to strike the balance where it's got pretty great commercial software and a great developer environment, perhaps just as good as Linux. Assuming you use homebrew or MacPorts or something like it.
