So, when will this become affordable?

Not until companies have some incentive to advance e-ink technology. Right now all there is for e-ink at that size is vaporware. If you're desperate, you can grab a used on on Ebay for ~$500.
>>
>>53420591
that person needs to transition into using letters instead of elaborate pictures
>>
>>53420679
But the Sony one isn't vaporware. It exists, and it's in mass production. Can you recommend a cheap, good quality one until I can afford it?

I'm saying the Sony one is your only option. There's nothing else in its class currently.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Hopefully the Noteslate Shiro isn't a scam like their first one.

That isn't even remotely the same thing.

No, it isn't. These things are for completely different uses.

Digital paper is supposed to replace paper. The Wacom Inkling uses paper. You also can't edit PDFs with the Inkling.
>>
>>53420989
>Digital paper is supposed to replace paper.
Its not, its supposed to be easier on the eyes with e-ink. Thats its purpose.

>You also can't edit PDFs with the Inkling.
I have a PC for that very raisin
>>
>>53421037
Did you even read what the Sony Digital Paper is? It's literally meant to replace paper.

I disagree with that premise

What about the Onyx Boox line? I used one for several months to take notes. Can also edit pdfs.

Hey this looks really neat, I'd give it another 5 years and hope the tech gets popular enough for them to continue developing it.

The biggest issue I can see right now is latency while working within the documents, and what I would prefer and probably want to spend money when it's reality is a 1ms or less latency from the pen.

They released a second edition. As of less than a year ago you could get the newer model pretty easy.

It's sold out on their website and their eBay site is just just random stupid shit. If you have a link, I'd love to see it.

Hrm, I got mine on Amazon. Let me see what I can find. I sold my first gen to someone about a year ago, even though they were shopping at the time for new 2nd gens.

Bro, this took me less than 30 seconds on Google. I'm assuming that means with more effort you could find better selection.

Here's another, of the newer model, for $340ish. They come and go in stock quarterly or so.

I saw that one, but since the MSRP on the gen2 was $339 or so, I felt like that was bullshit.

>>53421342
How I didn't find this, who the fuck knows. I'm going to actually go to bed now, thanks.
>>
>>53421356
Enjoy. I used the boox extensively and liked it. Some people do prefer the older model still, not sure why, minor differences. I guess it's only priced higher since it's discontinued.
>>
>>53421391
To be perfectly honest with you, I'll probably just save up and get the Sony one. I was hoping that the older thing would be cheaper because I forgot how tech prices work, and the A4 size is really attractive. Thanks anyway, though. Good to know there are other options.
>>
>>53421432
I was in academia at the time, and tried some of the 13' ers. I found no extra benefit in A4. In landscape particularly, 9.7" in wider than a normal printed page. I think you will regret spending so much on the Sony in a couple years, when prices go down and you realize what a specialty device it is.
They are pimp for reading manga and b&w comics tho. Pretty nice for ebooks as well. The rest is just functionality, pdf's and notes.
>>
>>53421492
I think given all the new features in the Sony, and the probable price reduction by the time I have to pick something to buy, it will win out. This is good information to have when I have to make the call, thanks. Now this time, I really will go to bed.

>>
>>53424820
you cannot draw faster. In the 2 seconds it takes someone to sketch a diagram on digital paper, it'd take you 30 seconds to make an ugly pathetic drawing using your mouse, move your text over to fit it and import it into a word document and then move things around so you're typing after the image again.

Also, good luck doing that shit on the go. You're not typing any faster on an iphone screen than someone can write on paper.
If you bring a laptop everywhere you go like a chucklefuck then you're carrying several pounds of gear. Also a miniscule battery life unless you carry a charger that weighs as much as a digital paper device in itself.
e-ink doesn't use energy to display text at all (unlike an lcd using up energy 60+ times a second to display something), energy is only used to change what is on screen when something has been altered.

I'm sorry you're way too retarded to even write legibly on paper, a skill even 9 year old children can do successfully.
>>
Giant e-reader tablets are cool, but I'd really like to know why laptops with screens with an epaper layer in the back and an OLED layer in the front aren't a thing yet. It'd be pretty neat to be able to switch your laptop into ultra-low-power epaper mode along with locking your CPU at 800Mhz for a super long life laptop that you'd have no problem reading on for hours, even sitting in broad sunlight.

File organization, convenience, PDF viewing, and the sexiest monochrome screen ever.
>>
The only thing wrong with this is the lag from when you write something to it appears on the screen. I tried a similar product once, and it was literally unusable for me because of that.

I hope the technology improves soon, I have wanted this for ages.
>>
>>53420591
Probably never. Sony priced it high enough for it to fail.
>>
It's not exactly the same, but I have a SP4 and it has completely replaced all the paper I have ever needed for Uni. The only time I have yo bring out a pen or pencil is for written tests.
>>
>>53430673
The new on by Sony doesn't have the lag unless you move really fast all the way across. It generally isn’t notable.

$799 here tho bro

Hopefully schools start replacing all exams/tests/inclasswork with these papers instead. Granted, they still have quite a bit of work to do, but it should greatly improve professor productivity and simplify all the shit they have to carry.

Just use pen and paper.

For proper penmanship in asian languages, youshould have the pencil/pen upright. Prevents drag between symbols so that everything is clear, and that you don't accidentally turn the symbols for lobster into symbols that mean cunt.

Seriously? I have 2 laying around in here.
ASUS dropped support for it, but it has Linux on board. You can compile your own linux applications for it.

It's not e-ink.
It's a monochrome ultra low power LCD.
The tablet itself works for around 14 hours on 1 charge. If you find an auction, tell me. I need some spare parts for my current model.
