You can disable screen saver on OSX Windows and Linux though.

Why is everyone so mad? It is a basic feature other operating systems have had for years.

There is literally no point in using a screensaver on modern displays... unless you're incapable of locking your PC before you go AFK...

PEBCAK
>>
>>53404787

...screensaver? you must be using a shitty DE op. none of my WMs have this. it's like a single checkbox to disable in most DEs. gnome doesn't bother with screen savers either. sorry about the retardation op
>>
>>53404787
Why the hell would you use a screen saver?
If I'm not at my computer I just turn the monitors off, but that isn't often.
>>
>>53404787
 xset s off
xset -dpms
>>
You don't even need Caffeine.

If you're using Unity, GNOME, KDE, XFCE, or any other DE worth a shit, you can just go into your settings and disable the screensaver via GUI.

What? the Linux kernel doesn't have a screensaver. What the fuck are you on about?

Yeah, to windows users two lines of text is pretty convoluted

>>
>computers are good

Linux comes in many forms (with GNU, without GNU, in Android, etc). Calling them all shit because you don't like one OS that uses it is pretty childish.
>>
Do people still use screesavers?
>>
>>53404787
Thanks for telling me. I'm using Linux and I would've never found this. If the video is not playing in full screen then I'm either doing something else at the same time or I'm AFK anyway and only want the sound.

>>53408443
Yes, but they mostly function as lock screens now.

Yeah, but this feature actually requires the developer to signal the OS to temporarily disable power saving. So blame the devs, not the OS.

There have been a few updates since 3.1

dude, I use windows, but really?
Do your research, Windows releases have just been an add on from the previous release. Windows XP is windows NT 5.1. Which is just an add on from windows NT 4.0 and 3.1 windows vista is windows NT 6 which is just added on features from the previous windows 7 is NT 6.1, literally vista with a few extras and better compatibility.

Yet another basic feature that Linux fails at.

Linux is so hilarious unusable, it's almost like a joke.
>>
Hey at least you can enable that screensaver.

If I let my display go to sleep in Xubuntu, I'm not getting it back unless I open a different session or open up a terminal and use xrandr blindly to bring it back from the death.

This, /flt/ exists for a reason.

This is obviously a complaint by someone who never had to write software that deals directly with hardware. Or BIOS.
>>
>>53404787
so what version of "the linux" are we talking about OP?

I've used many, using one right now (debian testing) and I've never run into this issue. Maybe you're just retarded.
