More like way-not-gonna-land
Is any DE besides kde and gnome wayland compatible yet?
Id really like to use Xfce with compositing oob without the need to install and configure compton for the 50th fucking time
>>53403072
someone please explain to an oldfag like me why wayland is a good idea?
while we're on the subject, why is systemd a good idea?
or grub?
i don't have any need for any of that shite
>>53404053
>why wayland is a good idea?
X is 30 years old
>why is systemd a good idea?
it isn't
>>53404096
so? it still werqs m8
>>53404053
>someone please explain to an oldfag like me why wayland is a good idea?
Becaise it has a terrible server client design made obsolete by a compositor
>>53404053
As far as I know, X.org is a relic from many decades ago that needs a complete replacement. There are many many articles detailing all of its flaws and overstayed welcome.

>someone please explain to an oldfag like me why wayland is a good idea?
Because X is a piece of shit.
>why is systemd a good idea?
It's not.
>>53404119
It's holding devs back
>>53404123
why do i want a compositor fagging up my sleek minimalist display protocol?
>>53404141
X.org isn't a relic. I remember using XFree86. I remember configuring XFree86 and praying I don't do something stupid that could make my 30lb CRT monitor explode.

>sleek minimalist display protocol
Surely you jest.
>X.org isn't a relic
Please watch (or at least skim) http://youtu.be/GWQh_DmDLKQ . I might be thinking of another video as well, but basically the guys behind designing Wayland have been the core maintainers of X.org for like 10 years or something. The most memorable argument is "There are 11 core, maintained extensions to the X protocol. 8 of them cannot be turned off anymore."

>>53403072
I'm out of the loop, what is wayland
>>53403914
saw the option on gnome to use wayland on my new debian install
