Now that the Raspberry Pi 3 is out I'm thinking of getting one.

What are the most useful/coolest things have you seen someone use it for?
>>
Make a desk ornament with it.

Robot
Mailserver
Integrated in a table with Touchscreen on the plate
Feed your cat through it
get the zero and build your own drone
or manage the bathrooms of your office building
seems like you have plenty of time, kiddo. Time, people getting actual work done don't have.

The Odroid-C2 is 5 dollars more and is a billion times better.

it's good for both playing movies/music and serving movies/music over your LAN

I'm buying some different radio modules and using it for home automation. I'm using the Pi 2.

1) Place Pi3 in drawer
2) Never touch it again
3) Refresh /g/

Seriously tho the RPi3 is so underwhelming and disappointing. I've owned half a dozen Pis and done various heaps with them, but the 3 brings nothing useful to the table. I see zero reason to upgrade past the 2.

> muh wifi
Use a ralink USB adaptor
> muh 64 bits
With 32 bit OS
> muh 10x faster
Oh so you can use it to run real programs? Pity about that 1Gb RAM.

Use one as an ad blocking DNS with Pi Hole as well as a DHCP server to manage your network.
>>
>>53400348
I don't get it, you bought the pi to have a mini desktop?
>>
>>53400370

The RPI3 is terrible for that. Use something with a real gigabit port.
>>
>>53399475
You can remote control the vibrator in your asshole.
>>
>>53400399

Why would it be terrible for either? Traffic doesn't go through the Pi for either action.
>>
>>53400384
No, that's exactly my point. The RPi 2 is more than powerful enough to play movies/emulators and to do web/gpio stuff, the RPi 3 is totally overkill for that but too weak to use as a desktop. What is the 3 good for? Nothing I can see.

This.

There is a reason why Civics are popular with Ricers.

Normally I would agree. Shit chink clones like the Banana Pi are not worth guying for this reason. But ODroid release and maintain both Ubuntu and Android for their boards. Depending on what you want, the C2 may be an even better choice, as nobody outside of tinkerers is getting Android working on the Pi.

u seem to know what you do... i bought a raspberrypi 2 today because i want to emulate snes and nes and n64 and all those retro games since i dont have enough space to put all my consoles in one room so i decided to do it with the rasp.

can u tell me if i should take the rasp 2 back and get the 3rd instead ?

I'm kind of interested in grabbing one and making a little Phoebe-lookalike case for it but in red rather than yellow

>>

don't forget orange pi pc. only $15 and still better than the rpi 2. Not sure about rpi 3 though.
>>
>>53401942
Pi2 can handle SNES and earlier without breaking a sweat.

I have never emulated N64 with Pi, but the problem I find emulating PSX is accuracy of emulators, not performance.

Why don't you install the RetroPie image and try it yourself?
>>
>>53403029
Last I checked (which was a while ago), there was no hardware-accelerated video decoding for either Banana Pi or Orange Pi, making them both useless.
>>
>>53400023

unless you are building a tiny drone, any rbpi will do
>>
>>53404254

I have a B+ and a B2, the B2 is way better than the B+.

I plan on adding two B3s once they are more.available in the US.
>>
>>53399475
if your asking this don't buy one
>>
I don't have a RPi but I do have an Arduino jimmy rigged to water my plants. I imagine you could do something similar with RPi with enough daughter boards.
>>
>>53401942
N64 is likely shit. I saw a youtube video (at least a year old, but I doubt much has changed) of some guy playing Goldeneye and the sound was awful. N64 emulation isn't great on anything because the architecture was wonky as fuck on those things. I've heard ps1 is alright on a pi 2.
>>

>Same GPU
damn.
Just a *little* more power and I think it could handle gamecube emulation at standard GC res.
That would be amazing. A 35$ portable 4 gen console emulator.

No offense anon but what's the point of turning something so small back into a fuckhuge computer?
Portability is a MASSIVE asset(no pun intended)
