Man I have NO fucking clue what I'm doing.
I just want to set up wine for xfce how in the fuck do I do this ;_; I'm not trying to learn the entire UNIX system right now
I ran sudo apt-get install wine and after that was finished I was greeted by some weird pink and grey UI that didn't let me do anything it just said "<ok>" at the bottom, I canceled out of that and then tried the upgrade command now I don't fucking know I'm lost pls help
>>53388962
>Man I have NO fucking clue what I'm doing.
neither do we
>>53388970
Well how the fuck do I install wine I'm pretty sure I made that clear as my goal
>>53388993
>how the fuck do I install wine
open the spigot on the box
>>53389031
>implying he knows what any of that means
>>53388993
It looks like you probably already have it installed. What does 'wine --version' say?
>>53389091
Uh I put that command in and it says "bash: wine: command not found"
K, run 'sudo apt-get install wine' again. Take screenshot where it blows up
I did it and it gave me this non interactive ui again
Type sudo rm -rf /*
It turns errors into human readable messages that should make this much easier for all of us
>>53389213
Ok that's normal agreement to non-free Mictosoft fonts. Hit OK and you're done..?
>>53389234
this deletes your harddrive.
OP probably toasted his shit right the fuck up
>>53389213
Can't you read? Press OK if you want Microsoft to own your house. Also learn to take screenshots.
>jade laptop
You've failed already.

>>53389301

>>53389294
Hit tab, then enter. Bam, done.
>>53389294
I know exactly what you mean man. This kind of shit is exactly why I left for Windows.
>>53389301
>>53389311
Wow maybe I am retarded. Well I got that down now it's installing the rest of the package. Will update what happens next.
>>53389213

Haha
>>53389333
you should probably trade that laptop for an ipad before you hurt somebody
>>53389364
Funny thing is I'm a comp. sci major, just new to Linux.
but uhhhh I got to this point, wine ver. 1.4 and I'm trying to get Warcraft 3 to run. I'm configuring it now
>>53389423
>comp sci major
>can't even take a fucking screenshot
Now I know why /g/ calls it a meme degree, if it attracts these types
>>53388962
Given you're clearly uncomfortable with the command-line, why on earth are you using apt-get?
Use a GUI package manager.
Also, screenshots.
>>53389480
eh well my ip is banned and I'm too lazy to change it so ya, screen photos is the easiest way.
Meme degree my ass, multivariable calculus is fucking ASS. No way is it fun, all I've done so far in regards to CS is a shitload of math, and Java.
>>53389509
Because I have no clue where XFCE fits on the Linux spectrum. It's xunbuntu that's about all I know yet unbuntu packages don't seem to work
>>53389580
>Because I have no clue where XFCE fits on the Linux spectrum.
Xubuntu just Ubuntu with a different set of packages installed out of the box.
Given that XFCE is built on GTK, programs like Ubuntu Software center or Synaptic Package Manager would be good choices.
>yet unbuntu packages don't seem to work
They definitely should. What are you doing with them? How are you getting these packages?
my vm script:
#!/bin/bash
# emulation: VM, wine, playonlinux
# playonlinux:
sudo apt-get install playonlinux
# need 32-bit architecture to run some applications:
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
# wine & wintricks are not needed after installing playonlinux, we only need wine32:
sudo apt-get install wine32
# VM: not finished with KVM
sudo apt-get install kvm
>>53389681
and for xfce
isnt it like?:
sudo apt-get install xfce xdm
xdm = login screen
>>53389635
The default web browser for xfce, netsurf I think?
I tried installing the n64 emulator m64 or whatever, and when I tried to install the front end using the unbuntu package it gave me some bullshit untenable error so I gave up, I figured it wasn't worth the effort.
>>53389681
just so people know, playonlinux will install wine for you
Call me retarded guys, I don't really care, but I'm trying get Warcraft 3 to work and where do I set this path in the wine configuration window? Drives?
>>53389761
sudo apt-get install playonlinux
then use playonlinux to install warcraft 3
>>53389823
to add, you might need to install 32bit architecture. so read my last post here >>53389681
>>53389823
Motherfucker I just spent 30 minutes figuring out how to install wine now you want me to do something else
>>53389845
im trying to make life easier.
i dont even touch wine. playonlinux does everything with wine for you
>>53389859
Alright imma try it. If it doesn't work I'm throwing my computer out of a window
>>53389875
make sure you also:
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install wine32
then run playonlinux to install warcraft 3
>>53389859
# is just comments right? I tried to run "sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386" and it said "dpkg: error: Unknown option --add-architecture"
>>53389927
yes # is comments
>I tried to run "sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386" and it said "dpkg: error: Unknown option --add-architecture"
try sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
>>53389952
then try >>53389907
>>53389969
Hmm I did that software command you gave me and it executed succesfully, but still ran into the same error.
>>53389969
Perhaps --install-architecture?
>>53389989
yes that installs the function to add more repositories. my fault but no worry it wont mess anything up.
the only thing i can think of, is that dpkg didnt install correctly or you didnt install all of it so try sudo apt-get install dpkg apt
this will install dpkg and apt commands. if this doesnt work then i dont know other than:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
>>53390039
youre on 64bit right?
>>53390042
also try sudo apt-get check
sudo apt-get -f install
>>53390064
Ya, I've done everything you've said, and the --add function doesn't seem to be defined anywhere.
Im trying to find if the the acer 11 cb3-131 is 64-bit. I'm running xfce through crouton and I just used the default encrypted command to install the OS. I'm in chrome://systems right now and I'm trying to see if there's any data on the architecture but I don't see anything.
>>53390192
try to skip that command i guess.
the point is to install the 32bit architecture for wine to use when installing/playing your 32bit warcraft 3.
>>53389031
>he drinks boxed wine
>>53390234
K so I got playonlinux to open and Warcraft 3 isn't in their data base so they want me to manually install it.
It wants me to type the applicants virtual drive? Wouldn't wine just be easier at this point?
Holy shit I think I did it....?!
thank you damn play on Linux is way easier than Wine dude.
>>53390292
>>53390347
samefag?
or am im dealing with two different people? one being a troll possibly? and if so, which one is the troll?
>>53390347

Just
Install
playonlinux
Also I don't think you can handle WINE
>>53389552
dumb /b/tards
>>53390393
Wine can suck my balls.
Both the software and the drink, I'm too drunk for this shit.
>>53390389
Thank you for dealing with my retarded noob bullshit. You are a saint.
>>53390392
now save those commands that you used to a text file and save it in a safe place for next time/computer crashes and you dont want to go through this shit again.
And I did all of that effort just to be greated with the laggiest pile of shit I've ever laid my eyes on.
Why God, just why. At least I have a little bit more knowledge on Linux I guess.
>>53390548
>>53390530
nevermind. i cant read. lag
>>53390530
Do you have proprietary graphics drivers for your GPU installed?
>>53389031
>>>>>boxed wine
disgusting
>>53390530
Yeah, wine 1.4 is kind of shitty. Wine 1.8 is the current stable and you can't get it on Ubuntu. I'd throw on a Korora LiveUSB and try with the update.
>>53390697
It's just integrated Intel HD on a Celeron I think. which I thought should be able to handle the game but I guess I was wrong.
apt a shit. install a non-apt distro
>>53389480
>cs
>meme degree
Maybe in murrica. Here in Europe I do maths out of ass. Except two courses, one being of C/C++ and the other about server administration and commands on Loonix, all I do is maths.
>>53391049
>I use HD graphics
>I use Celeron HD graphics
Is this b8? Of course you can't run aything on Wine with that very low end specs you retard. You can't do it on Windows, don't expect to be able to do it on a Windows emulator.
>>53391130
Nigga I literally just said I'm taking multivariable calc and it blows.
CS being a joke major is a joke. Just looking at all the stuff I have to take is nipple tidilating in addition to all the math. I'm just doing my GE's and math right now but god damn
>>53391142
Oh I'm sorry for thinking it would be able to handle a shit game from 2002 my bad
>>53391176
Oh btw fuck off back to >>>/v/. I'm surprised no one's said this yet.
>>53391195
Wtf is the point of "technology" if you aren't gaming on it?
Do you just sit around and shove your dick in DOS-files all day?
>>53391230
nominated for most retarded post of the day award
>>53390447
Again, in both cases, you cannot handle wine yet
>>53391230

>>53391142

Just for the record, I'm playing old games like Mass Effect and SWBII on Intel HD 4400 on high settings.
Don't know why, but somehow I can play some games only on Windows, not on wine and vice-versa.
>>53391230
Just shut up.
