>this is /g/ not /mu/ gtfo

We do not talk about the music as it is but how it's created and what we use
and how to help others get better

1 simple rule I hope you can guys do, please don't be assholes to those who
have a different perspective on another DAW, no matter what it is or how shitty
it is. I know there are some very laughable ones out there but ya know...
So please just be as helpful as you can.

Links and info:
For the sake of work, you are allowed to use a name. Just don't
make yourself look like a dumb ass and make me regret saying
that.

If you need help, you can use Clyp.it if you wish to stay anon.

If this thread is ded you are welcomed to Nexus, A discord
server specifically made around 4chan. If link is bork,

>>
>What DAW is yours?
Ableton
>How long you been on it?
2 years.
>How long have you been into music?
15 years.
>What genre do you play with the most?
Everything really.
>What Genre do you think you are best at?
I love making everything, can't really think of one I'm better at than others and I most certainly don't wanna sound pompous. I just don't wanna pick favorites.
>Have you thought about changing up to something else?
Yes, to FL Studio.
>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?
Probably Sylenth because it's so fast and easy.
>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get nowhere?
I'll always into music, it's my passion.
>What is your technical question and/or pointer?
I don't really have any questions, just thought I'd drop by the thread to say hi and answer any questions maybe.
>What is the best cheese?
I wanna say mozzarella, but idk, I love all kinds of cheese, well, except roquefort, that's just disgusting mold.
>>
>>53373236
this is a good question

>>53373489
>all kinds of cheeses!
As long as it's not spicy, I'll try it. I admit, I'm a little bitch to spicy
>>
>>53373060
>>What DAW is yours?

FL Studio

>>How long you been on it?

Since about 2004 or so. Prior to that it was Cubase and CWPA/Sonar.

>>How long have you been into music?

approx 26-28 years, off and on.

>>What genre do you play with the most?

Detroit Techno and Hip Hop

>>What Genre do you think you are best at?

See above.

>>Have you thought about changing up to something else?

I have done DnB/Jungle, Chicago House, Electro, Hardstep, and Ghettotech.

>>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?

Tie: Yamaha TG55 and Sequential Multi-Trak. At one point I used those two exclusively and was able to create whole tracks with only those two synths + fx.

>>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?

Been doin it this long with a single hip hop production credit and one experimental album release to my name so, yeah...

>>What is your technical question and/or pointers?

Learn your DAW and favorite synth backwards and forwards.
>>
>>53373628
Spicy is good, extreme spicy not so much. I have an alright tolerance to it.
>>
>>53373489
>Probably Sylenth because it's so fast and easy.

your favorite synth is a slut anon. i saw her giving it to avicii for free

Drum and Bass

>What Genre do you think you are best at?
Is mayonnaise a genre?

>Have you thought about changing up to something else?
I've seriously considered Bitwig

>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?
I own way too fucking many

>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?
Hasn't stopped me so far

>Pointers
I spent the first 1-2 years of music production acquiring a bunch of software and gear. Nowadays I mostly use Ableton's built-in effects, a couple soft-synths, and not much else. Get good at using what you've got before you start looking for more.

If you're gonna actually spend money on software, don't make it Waves. It will not be a one-time purchase. They will find a way to get you to keep paying for it.

Renoise is pretty cushy, and it has linux...

SAWTOOTH WAVE

>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?
Music is a meme hobby

>What is your technical question and/or pointers?
Stereo widening makes music sound like 5x as good for literally no effort.
>>
>>53374330
oh, and the best cheese is probably mature english cheddar (level 4 or over, crumbly as FUCK)

Define stereo widening

if you mean haas then have fun with your crazy mono compatibility issues
>>
>>53374357
>no idea what haas is. i mean taking the left and right channels and offsetting them very very slightly. who listens to music in mono?

>What DAW is yours?
PureData + OSC app on iPad
>How long you been on it?
10 Years, more or less
>How long have you been into music?
Around 15 years
>What genre do you play with the most?
Noise, Industrial, Ambient
>What Genre do you think you are best at?
Dark Ambient
>Have you thought about changing up to something else?
Yeah. Vaporwave/Futurefunk seems nice to play around with. I used to make samples for a friend who then again used them to create beats for some rap freestyle competitions.
>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?
I don't have one.
>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?
Sure. It's nice to just fiddle around with my iPad and get some sounds out of my PC.
>What is your technical question and/or pointers?
OSC is a blessing.
>What is the best cheese?
That is a loaded question. I would say it all depends on the situation. Like, you wouldn't eat Tilsiter while drinking red wine. Similarily you wouldn't eat a Roquefort on your rushed morning toast.
I think that right now my personal best cheese is a middle-aged orange irish cheddar.
>>
god damn you guys know your cheeses. That's frightening! but awesome

>>53374372
People who go to clubs.
>>
>>53374402
Most clubs I've seen have bigger audio related problems than stereo widening.
>>
>>53374418
Too much stereo = weaker mono mix
Phase cancellation is a thing, balance is key.
>>
>>53374418
>>53374465

One forgets the main purpose of a club.
To drink, perv and listen to loud basslines.
>>
>>53374372
The haas effect is the reason why what you're describing works. It's cool, and it might sound like it's really improving your mixes, but it tends to fuck things up

Here's a video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQOkSF8auFc

And here's a comment on the video that goes into more detail about my bitching
>I like the video for it's educational purpose but really you should not use this in mixing extensively (or at all) as it tends to cause phasing issues and trashes the stereo/mono compatibility very easily. Which is pretty much the reason why it is not done in pro mixing, cause the effect is really well known. If you do it keep phasing issues and mono compatibility in mind and don't do it to much. There are other applications of this effect that can be done in mixing without problems. Like placing vocals and sounds in the mix with a short mono delay. What you also can do is double tracks with different recordings or sounds and pan or delay them a couple of milliseconds. That doesn't cause as much problems.
>>
>>53374478
Loud basslines which you can only hear if they're extremely mono.
>>
>>53374669
Idk. Stereo with speakers on stands, a giant sub playing mono beats is correct, I guess.
>>
>>53374681
Most club speakers don't play stereo. Mono is way more powerful than stereo as in, pure loudness wise. At festivals however where they can afford more speakers they have stereo shit going on.

guys i need help, I have one of these badboys( picrelated) hook into this badboy(picrelated in the reply) through the audio interface 02 input line into the XLR output on the preamp, and then an XLR from the input line on the preamp into the microphone. This works and I can see that when I speak into the microphone, both the interface and the preamp displays signals from it. But the problem is that I can't seem to get the audio that I speak in the mic, into my computer through any audio recording program or even skype, even though the computer audio settings in the controlpanel recognizes it through my audio interface! Plz help!

What is the best thing for creating heavy dubstep basses?
>>
>>53378310
Not the car, but the driver. You can make hardcore dubstep basses in everything. There's your standard shit like Serum or Massive, but then you can make a 5 times more hardcore bass with Sylenth and then resample it through Harmor. It's really about getting creative with your shit.
