What's the difference?

libreoffice is a bad fork nobody uses.
>>

I use it

I use it.

LibreOffice is actively being developed. OO.org not so much
>>

But nobody cares for you anon
>>
>>53361327

I use it too.

OOo is the original fork that died off
>>
>>53361327
Nice meme. Libre Office has a larger and more involved community. Plus faster and more numerous updates.
>>
>>53361327
or better, openOffice is a dead project nobody uses.
>>
>>53361263
Both are shitty alternative for MS Office
>>
>>53361378
So is libre office really the best I can get on Linux?
>>
>>53361403
Without using a VM or Wine for MS Office? Sure.
>>
>>53361387
openOffice virtualy is a dead project.

OpenOffice died because nobody trusted Oracle to manage it correctly, so it was forked into LibreOffice and pretty much everybody involved moved over. Oracle were then left with a useless dead project, so they washed their hands of it and donated it to Apache.

LibreOffice was already well-established by that point though, so most people just stuck with it. Apache are still releasing updates to OpenOffice, but it hasn't had any serious development in years and LibreOffice has far surpassed it at this point.

>>53361388
Using any office suite at all is even more shitty.

Try SoftMaker FreeOffice. Nice and lightweight office suite for all platforms.

that's 3 people plus part of that remaining 1% linux desktop share who use lo versus rest of normal people and almost million weekly downloads of openoffice.
>>
There's other decent office applications like WPS Office (Chinese clone of Microsoft Office) and Only Office community version.
>>
One is shit, the other is crap.
>>
I just have a virtual machine with windows cuck on it and use microsoft office. Nothing from work ever formats right on libre office or open office.
>>
>>53361600
This is the biggest problem. Libre Office and others can open MS files, but nothing formats correctly so you might as well use MS somehow.
>>
>>53361327
User right here.
>>
>>53361263
The difference is mainly in the development. OpenOffice was bought by oracle and later given to apache. LibreOffice is comes out with more versions and updates way more frequently. Basically same UI, same code, and same tools. It's usually whatever you're exposed to first.
>>
>>53361639

I have had good luck with google docs, but you need an internet connection to use it obviously.

This needs more details. How has LibreOffice far surpassed OpenOffice?
>>
>>53361720
>usually whatever you're exposed first
Not true. I was using OOo first and then moved to LO.
>>
>>53361600
>>53361730
Try WPS Office, it allegedly has the best compatibility that Chinks can engineer.

faith enough

>>53361732
open office got merged with lotus symphony commercial fork which was donated back by ibm, since then it surpassed libreoffice by far.

>>
>>53361327
Isn't that backward? I thought OpenOffice was no longer updated and LibreOffice was actively being updated.
>>
Openoffice is faster and less annoying. Libre can save as docx and openoffice cant.
>>
>>53361844
That seems contradictory. Now you mean to say OpenOffice surpassed LibreOffice?
