Is 2 gb of VRAM still enough for 1080P gaming?

Is this card finally going into the thrash?
>>

It was born in the trash and now it will die in it
>>
It always belonged in the trash, since the R9 285 came out before it.
>>
>>53351701
Yes
>>
>>53351701
But it also has a 4GB variant? Why wouldn't you just get that instead?

What is the minimum for 1080P gaming?
>>
>>53351826
NVidia™ GeForce™ GTX 960 2GB
>>
>>53351729
>4GB
>128-bit

>CURRENT YEAR CURRENT YEAR CURRENT YEAR CURRENT YEAR CURRENT YEAR CURRENT YEAR
>>
>>53351839
What does minimum mean to you? You mean for playing 60 fps at ultra?
>>
>>53351852
>what is advanced texture compression
128 bit bus literally makes no difference at 1080p, and you'd be mad to try any higher resolution on an entry-level card
>>
>>53351852
So it is not worth it at all or what? And what if the price difference is almost non existent? 4gb or 2gb then?
>>
>>53351874
You'd be hard pressed to use much more than 2 or so GB before the 128-bit bus's bandwidth bottlenecks everything else

4GB @ 128-bit is placebo
>>
>>53351852
It's closer to 196 bit thanks to compression, also bandwidth is plenty for 1080p, bus width isn't everything you fuck.

You're an idiot.

>>53351874
4GB is well worth it, the 960 has decent bandwidth thanks to delta compression and high frequency memory.

If you only have 2gb it'll hold you back.
Pic related for proof.

If you don't have enough vram you're going to be disappointed by frame drops and stutters when you're running low on vram.
>>
>>53351701
>2gb

OP its the current year, if you're buying a card you should at least have 4gb minimum
>>
>>53353212
3gb hd 7950 is fine too.

>>
>>53353814
god I love this card. Shit's been going strong for over 4 years
>>
I think there were a few games that were hitting the 8gb limit. But alas, the only cards that have 8gb is AMD.

As much as I have to agree with AMD being more economic

Got one for $180 as an open-box at Micro Center.

Shit was cash, yo.....

A stock 960 is vastly superior to a stock 285, the overhead issue in AMD's drivers causes it to suffer unless you pair it with an i7.

Anything i3 or better won't really matter you know.
That pentium is just too weak.
>>
>>53351701
Depends on the detail settings and the FPS you want. I prefer very high/ultra details and 4x MSAA over normal/high, so usually get around 30-45 in games like AssCreed, GTA or Witcher. I have a pretty shitty FX 6300 tho.

>>53351726
>similar performance
>uses much more power
Fuck your 285.

>>53351729
Given the extra price, it'd be better to get a 970

>>53354030
The fuck? When I bought mine, the premium for 4GB was around 40 bucks, think I got mine for 200 or 220.

Anyway, how did overclocking go for you 960fags?
>>
Why the fuck would you guys buy a 9xx card when the Pascal cards are coming out in a few months? You're literally wasting money on something that will be obsolete in a half year.
>>
>>53355219
Bough mine in the early 2015. Besides, it's stupid to wait for hardware, gotta buy it when you need it.
>>
>>53355219
I love how every day people say this shit

"Why buy something now? Something will come out in the future!"

If retards listened to you they would never upgrade because guess what? Something new will always come out.

Why would you buy 1st generation Pascal when 2nd generation Pascal comes out next year?
>>
>>53355219
Pascal is going to be fucking expensive
I always buy my cards from local stores like Micro Center, and even they like to jack their prices, anywhere from an additional $20 to $40.

And the reality of it is, most games are barely scratching the surface in regards to potential, so unless you like your games running at wild FPS, the 9-series works just fine and are usually easy enough to resell.

>>53354864
>People are still buying those Pentiums
>Z-motherboards usually come at a price premium
>Minimum $180 for a dual core mITX system when you can get a Quad AMD for $160 at Micro Center

I feel like I really take for granted living next to a Micro Center
>>
>>53351701
Works fine for me.
>>
Okay so what's a better deal then?

At the time I bought my 960 6 months ago, the 970 was $150 more.

Reviews said the 960 was better than similar 4gb ATI cards, so I just bought it.
>>
>>53356522

The cheapest quad core AMD sells is $125, not really a good deal in any way. The only thing they sell cheaper are the dual module chips that have no l3 cache and a disabled igpu, but the single thread perf is terrible equally on both.
>>
>>53356522
>getting a quadcore AMD in 2016
>>
The 960 is horrible price performance and has been ever since it's release, literally the only way to justify it is if you have some cultish loyalty to Nvidia.
>>
>>53357009
>The 960 is horrible price performance and has been ever since it's release, literally the only way to justify it is if you have some cultish loyalty to Nvidia.

Only if you're a goyim who pays full price, there have been price match scams and good deals in the past that brought the price down to the $300-350 range.
>>
>>53351701
Shadow of mordor uses about 3 GB you won't be able to play at max settings. The 4 GB version won't be able to use the extra RAM. Would recommend the and equivalent.
>>
>>53354204
far cry primal was only that bad pre-release. i'm running a gtx 960 and getting a solid 50 fps with very high settings.

I bought gtx960 2gb 3 months ago from 2nd hand as a cheap replacement for gtx560ti. For a casual 1080p gamer such as myself it's a great card. It consumes less power and is completly silent while idle which is 80% of the time.
>>
>>53355219

I normally disagree unless cards are coming out in a month, but Pascal looks to be a significant jump.
