Can I have sauce on these facts?
I want to use them to make fun of some hipster that keeps telling me I live in the past because I use firefox and won't change my hardware (though it still werks).

Don't have a sauce on the first one, but the rest are options that can be found in the settings.
>>
>>53325184
Ayy. I'm sure he wouldn't even have changed the settings as he bragged about respecting his privacy by "choosing not to send" his data while upgrading to windows 10.

shame I can't get sauce on the first one tho. thanks anyway.

Hm. I use Firefox now, but this image has just convinced me to join the botnet.
Maybe I should install Windows 10 too. Like, it is free, yes?
>>
If you change Chrome's quicksort to a mergesort you will no longer have botnet.

You can turn it off in Firefox.
And Google force to use their shit even for Chromium
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2940499/ok-google-hotword-detection-yanked-from-chromium-after-user-revolt.html
>>
>>53325316
You can also disable all those things mentioned in OP in chromium. There are literally checkboxes for those.

This. You can disable all of the 'spying' if you would care to untighten your tinfoilhat and think for a second
>>
> expecting software to be free AND have no way to make the developers money

The entitlement is strong
>>
>>53325583
You're pretty fucking naive if you think a company that makes its money by collecting data will give you a 'free' product and not collect your data.

You are the product.
>>
>>53325706
OK so what's your source?
They already gave us Chromium and AOSP, which is free and doesn't collect your data.
>>
>>53325217
>caring this much

just use it and tell him to fuck off
>>
>>53325706
No, the company is relying on the common Joe not know what spying even is. They get their info that way. I on the other hand get a superior product with the spying disabled
>>
>>53325718
>which is free and doesn't collect your data.
What's your source for this?

The truth is that we're both sourceless except that:
1. Google makes its money from user data.
2. The default actions of its browsers is to collect data
3. Google develops and releases chrome, and heavily advertises it online.

Google is actually LOSING MONEY by taking up advertising space with chrome ads when they could be advertising a client instead, so it makes sense that chrome makes them some kind of benefit in one way or another.
Since they're a data company- this benefit is data.
>>
Am I safe with Chromium?

I really want to ditch Firefox, it's getting slower and slower
>>
>>53325751
The source code.
>>
I wish I still cared about stuff like this.

Once you realize just letting yourself get spied on has a negligible effect on every day life, or sometimes makes things more convenient, you just give up.

In principle I don't like it, but eh
>>
>>53325827
But the thing is you can use the product and disable the spying in like 10 seconds and never have to worry about it again, while getting the advantages of a better product.
>>
>>53325881
For some things.

I have a windows phone and I actually use cortana, so I'm fucked with that.
>>
>>53325895
I have no knowledge of cortana. How exactly does it spy on you?
>>
>>53325909
Same ways as Siri & Google Now.
>>
>>53325807
Some project can be open source and still not be audited to the point where people can find shady shit

Everyone relies heavily on the availability of that, but who takes care to actually check what's inside?
>>
>>53325909
I have no idea, I just assume that it does.
>>
>>53325916
Yes I also have no knowledge how they spy on you. I don't really use those functions
>>
>>53324096
the fuckin real botnet
>>
>>53325937
basically every way possible so it's as useful as possible
reads contacts, emails, location, history, obviously has to listen for voice activation
>>
>>53325959
But it's just program that reads another program. How is it spying?
>>
>>53326035
Depends what you classify as spying.
I just figured you were going by /g/'s "anything that wants personal data is spying" definition.
>>
>>53324096
It's okay if google do it anon
Google is our savior
>>
you have nothing to fear anon, anal fissures heal quickly
>>
>>53324096
All these things are optional and can be disabled in Settings.

>Implying Data Synchronization is bad
>>
>>53324096
those are all useabiliy improving features
>>
>>53324096
Reminder you can disable all of these things or use a program like iridium that modifies chrome to not phone home
