It is unacceptable to pay more than £200 or less than £1000 for a laptop
>>
>>53318311
I only value things with the two most relevant currencies: USD and CNY
>>
More than $300 USD is fail IMO. Laptops should be about portability, convenience, productivity, battery life. They should not be about playing hardware demanding new games and burning hot CPU/GPUs and jet engine fans. They also should not be about using at $2000 fagbook at a coffee shop.

$300 can get you a nice used laptop.
>>
Retro thinkpads for 200 bucks are usually good beasts and wonèt fuck you up.
1000 is what macfags throw on fancy shit, so, no.
>>
>>53318382
close enough
>>
>>53318311
It honestly depends on your needs. Macs are cool if you have money to throw or you need an osx environment to worth with. If you can get buy with a 200 dollar think pad by running arch and i3 then do it. If you need a windows system that needs to run vs pick a mid range laptop.
>>
It is unacceptable to judge something solely by its price.
>>
>>53318311
Your phrasing is off. All laptop prices are unacceptable, according to you.
>>
>>53318490
he's saying laptops costing more than £200 and less than £1000 are bad. probably because they're either overpriced netbooks or cheaply built "workstation" (for lack of a better word) laptops.

Got it for 350$
>>
>>53318490
I think the point he was making is that mid price laptops don't give good value for money for the build quality and features

Laptops are disposable proprietary shit. I agree with would never pay more than $300.

I had to re-read it three times, but eventually understood. Maybe capitalizing OR to make it clearer he was making two separate statements would have helped.

Developer here.

The MacBook Pro has more or less completely overtaken the software development world. In virtually all conferences I've visited, they've been using MacBook Pro's.

Follow some developers behind new frameworks, and you'll see that when they show some code, they are using a mac.

Which isn't hard to understand. OSX is Unix, a fantastic platform for developing software. It's Unix with the de facto best user interface you'll get, without any setup hassle. It's got amazing multi monitor support along with task handling.

I honestly don't see why you would get anything else than a macbook pro. It's got some sweet integrated SSD action that's damn near impossible to find anywhere else too.

And yet you were able to solve the captcha to post this message. Miraculous.

It is only acceptable not to buy a laptop

I wont get a laptop for more than AU$350

It's meant for portability in terms of doing some basic tasks on the go or away from home. If I want to do anything serious, that's what my desktop PC is for. And I know for sure I don't have the time when I'm out to focus on that even if I had an expensive laptop.
>>
>>53318382
I agree. I need a laptop for Uni so bought a $350 memepad with a quad i7 and SSD. Made a docking station with a PC GTX 970 so I can game on it at home (can run Crysis 3 on full ultra at around 60fps). Imagine mfw people spend 3k on alienware laptops with SLI just to acheive similar results.
