So /g/, why are you still using civi tech? Military grade hardware is the way to go.
t. owner of virtually indestructible, touch screen, glow in the dark keyboard GD 8000 laptop
Proofs
I don't tend to drop my laptops because I look after my shit.
Touch screen on laptops is a meme
And one of my laptops has a backlit keyboard, the other has the thinkpad light.
> 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Maybe if you're a retard and constantly bang your head against your laptop, but no sane person would pay for that outdated piece of shit

Hey man, it's got pretty good specs for its time, and to be honest, I would have broken my laptop at least three times in the last 6 months if I didn't have this thing.
>>53300960
I don't live in a warzone.
>>53301247
Yet.
>>53300960
does it offer emp protection?
>>53301061
You sound like a moron incapable of breathing without a reminder, so excuse me if I don't take your opinion on what technology to buy.
>>53300960
>gorillions of dollars
>mediocre specifications
I'll pass, unless its free
>>53301377
This specific model I got on ebay for 500
Lol we used these when I was in the Marines, they're shit. Only reason we used them was because they won't break if they happen to drop off our aircraft during maintenance.
>>53301464
Yeah, I tend to have a problem with dropping things
Oh yours fell on the floor again. I never have to worry about this since if mine falls down it keeps going through the floor and into the ground and then I have to buy a new fucking laptop again
Also these are probably single cores but they do look very badass. Alternatively you can just duct tape a thinkpad to the inside of one of those pelican cases or any company that makes that sort of product
>this beautiful bitch here stops small and medium caliber bullets
>i'll take my E6400XFR and smash your fucking "tough book" to pieces
>>53301020
>giving a shit about muh specs in a portable
>>53302550
What market do those even address? Hostile deployments that need a lot of storage and compute horsepower?
>>53300960
How will you shitpost after the RACE WAR begins?
>>53303166
>implying I'm not getting ready for the glorious proletariat revolution
I use those almost daily. The Dell's suck and they do break...a lot. The miltops keyboard is almost unusable. The army only used them in a field environment anyway. The main reason they are used is because you can easy remove the hard drive to store in a safe. There is no reason ever to buy one unless your a day fuck who could never join the army and wants to pretend...
>>53303180
>full scale was in your area
>no internet anyway
What is the point...
>>53303230
They still have internet in Syria. Or at least they did before the blackout.
>>53303241
War at your front door...still gotta check Facebook...
>>53303316
They offer 0 protection...
Rugged laptops are cool but they cost like 3000 dollars for a core 2 duo or even a Pentium M since they're sold to bloated-ass corporations and government agencies that don't mind dropping that much on a laptop if it will last them 15 years

I've seen those operation tents, the ones they set up quickly in less than a few hours and it looks like the majority of it is to set up electricity for their equipment. If it were portable to begin with then it would solve that issue on depending on the tent. Also obviously RAID is a good technology to have with you in case a drive fails although we do have SSDs now, again even in that case nice to have it just in case somehow one went, you still wouldn't be done. I've also seen a third tier on that laptop like almost all military laptops that just let you keep daisy chaining batteries as you may have to be away from base for weeks. I've seen barrel-high ones that were just the laptop on the top 10% and the rest of it was all battery.
Maybe our marine friend in this thread could tell us more.
Ex army fag.
Military grade means it's 40 years old and constantly breaking.
The support is really good and you'll get it exchanged very easily but don't expect a piece of equipment to last an entire ex without fucking up once.
The best gear we had was civilian.
>>53301501
If that's the case is good i guess
Wish i could get one this resistant for my wife's boyfriend, he has clumsy hands
>>53303331
Yes, zero. It needs to be placed in a grounded box. The thicker (non magnetic) magnesium chassis would offer some protection than thin plastic, but not much difference.
