Can we get a case recommendation thread going? I'm not really sure what to pick but I do know that I'm 100 ready to retire my Antec 1200 that weighs over 10 metric tons. I've heard a lot of good things about the Define R5. I'd love to hear opinions and suggestions!
>>
what formfactor do you need, how much are you willing to spend, want to use retardedly long video cards, and how many drive will you be using?

so far all i hear is you want a lighter case
>>
>>53289232
I've got the R4. I love it. Doesn't look stupid and quiet as hell.
>>
>>53289232
Id get the define
from I can tell theres nothing to match it in terms of minimal clean lines. If you get a window thats a bonus.
>>
>>53289245

Mid tower with three storage drives and two SSD, a 980ti, no optical drives. Quiet but not too heavy, sturdy. 100-150.
>>
>>53289338
like you said in the op, the r5 is pretty much the only case i can think of that fits the bill, maybe an nzxt h440 weighing in at 9.75 kg(just copy and pasted it)
>>
>>53289232
If you like a big case get the ABS Tigas.
It has a shitty gimmicky onboard hot swap in the case, but removing that its normal and easy to remove.
Ive had mine for 6 years and id never give it up

Corsair 200R. Super cheap, clean and weighs about 6 kg (13.4 pounds).
>>
>>53289232
Define R2 XL owner here. Fuck mid towers, cramped as fuck.

Fractal Design makes pretty much the best cases I have ever used, and I have used like 20 cases.
>>
Diypc silence bk. Obvs a ripoff but eh, shit was 60 deer.
>>
>>53289232
Bought a Fractal R4 3 years ago. It's been a solid case and still looks amazing.

A few days ago I tripped on my headphones and somehow broke the front audio jack. Emailed Fractal support to find out where I could buy a replacement part, and they're shipping one out for free...

My only other tech customer support experience was with Asus (never ever buy their tablets) so I was literally speechless
>>
>>53289493
>20 cases
>constantly pics bad cases
>>
>>53289533
Most of them are not picked by me. I don't own 20 computers.
>>
>>53289232
I would say r5, but the define s is about the same with more open airflow and cleaner insides.
Question to other anons, is there a reason other than optical drives to pick the r5 over the s?
>>
>>53289593
Hard drive space. I have an R5 and it has 8 hdd bays. The S only had the 3 spots on the back for full sized hdds. If you're Not going to liquid cool, find a smaller case. The Define S is a large case and with no hdd or optical bays, the front is just this large space of nothingness. Air cooling in that case isn a waste.
>>
>>53289813
Fair enough. Though average users on here seem to only use 1 or 2 hdd, with an ssd maybe, so I still see the define s as a better choice if they wanted to go with an r5 to begin with in that case
>>
>>53289852
tell that to my 5 hard drives, sure only 3 are connected at the moment, and i am looking to purge some of them
>>
>>53289852
>>53289879

pick one.
>>
>>53289896
At this point you should invest in a bad desu senpai

Nas I meant

>using an R5 without removing the awful air restricting hard drive cages

lel
>>
>>53289481
this
>>
>>53289932
not him but yea, it's what i'm looking to do
that way i can just back up that data, which is a back up of my other computers
>>
I have the Define R5 with a window.
It's a great case in every way, it's easy to build in, has plenty of space for cable management and is super quiet.
>>
Just dont get a nanoxia

costs more than a define, and is worse in every way.
>>
>>53289956
I took the plunge and built one last year. Moved all my movies, music, pictures, backups and a few other things to it and it really freed up space. Nice to have my peace of mind with the data security too
>>
Looking to cop a be quiet silent base 800, anyone got experience with it?
>>
>buying a non-corsair case
>ever

do you even aesthetics bros?
>>
>>53290048
NZXT has some nice cases
>>
What do you guys think of Phanteks?
>>
Wait for more cases with usb 3.1 type c ports and just get something cheap in the mean time.
>>
>>53290048
Classic minimalist master race with lian li be mad jelly of all aluminum construction
>>
>>53290331
Phanteks cases are good, I just wish the Pro M was in mATX then i'd buy 1
>>
>>53289232

I've got pic related and love it. Haven't built a PC since 2000 so was worried, but with this case it's easy as fuck.

Wanted something as silent as my Mac Pro '08 and it is.
>>
>>53290331
My personal favorite. Got the Evolv ATX.
>>
>>53290331
>What do you guys think of Phanteks?
Enthoo Evolv mATX and ATX are God Tier cases. Dat 3mm alu...
>>
Budget: Fractal Define Define S
Mid: NZXT H440
Bit more: Phanteks Evolv ATX
>>
>>53291781
This guy knows what's up.

Think I'll go for the H440 black windowless since Phanteks isn't available in my country.
>>
>>53289481
I wish I had bought this one instead of 100R. Not that I don't like the 100R but it feels a bit cramped.
>>
>>53289519
Some of the smaller companies are like that. I had a Novation DJ controller and a couple of the pads and buttons had broken. I emailed about where to buy replacement parts and they sent them for free. The big box movers like Asus don't give a flying fuck.
>>
are there any good ATX or mATX cases that mount the motherboard horizontally while still keeping a smallish form factor? spooked by gpu sag and i just feel like it makes more sense to orient the mobo that way
>>
To have a light case, you have to get an all aluminium one, look into Lian Li, Silverstone etc.

Holy fuck it looks way sexier turned on the side like that. The same can be done with the 540, yes?

Thermaltake Core V21, seems nice for the price. Plenty of space and has a nice big window.
>>
>>53292854
Yes, but you'll have to mount your own case feet on the side that you'll be using as the base as the 540 feet are fixed and the 240 feet are stick on rubber blocks. Does look damn good that way though.

I bought this

it was cheap

it's actually really quite good

still a little autistic though
>>
>>53290331
I've done 3 builds with the mATX Evolv, great case. Hinged sides, good cable management, great airflow and damn they look smart in white.
