I have a thing for older top of the line cpu's and gpu's.

Am I crazy for wanting SLI 590's? $275 on ebay. Will be paired up with an Athlon II x4 651K which was top of the line cpu for the FM1 board.

This won't be me primary computer btw.
>>
I once wanted an old 8800 and use it as a dedicated physx card just for the novelty.
>>
>>53286748
Used GPU's are probably a bad buy.

Assume that some teenager tried to mine bitcoins 24/7 on them when not taxing the shit out of them gaming.
>>
>>53286785

This isn't my first rodeo buying used, that's pretty much all I buy anymore.
>>
>>53286785
I will agree with this guy.
It may work great for years or it might not.
Take the risk or don't.

They do it just like any other average /g/ denizen would, and then flip them on ebay to some other autist.
>>
>>53286809
Well then it sounds like you already made up your mind, cowgirl.

Kinda BS. I've been using used parts exclusively for awhile. People tend to underestimate the longevity of modern computer parts.

>>53286748
Not crazy at all OP. I'm running an x58 board with an i7-970 right now. The consumer market is so eager in adopting the latest and greatest that perfectly adequate hardware gets tossed to the side and forgotten.

You're asking for a bad time op. Relative performance for that is complete shit, especially given your CPU. If you're doing it to look cool then go for it, otherwise it's a dumb move.

A similarily priced 970 or 380(x) would perform near the same if not better while drawing way less power and actually having good support. SLI support is shoddy at best, a 60% gain is the most you can hope for in 2way. 4 way is complete garbage.

>>
>>53286978
No shit, which is why you don't buy used consumables. Which video cards now are.
>>
a 780ti is tempting as well for $255.

any more than that and i'm into 290x territory, and i just bought another one of those last week.
>>
>>53286785
few people gave a shit about the coin craze, plus who the fuck used nvidia cards to do that shit?

honestly used gear has given me a better reliability record than fresh out of the factory equipment, since the garbage has already been weeded out

Do you have Voodoo 6000? It's pretty much the holy grail of video card collectors.

It also plays Diablo 2 amazingly well.

>>53286817
it either works or it doesn't. only takes a few minutes to fully test it out.

Had SLI 590 once.
Was fine, not much faster than a single 590.
Needs a lot of PSU, though.

You can't really OC them at all, either, without blowing up the VRM.

Hello Linus

>>53286944
>60% is the best you can hope for
I had almost perfect scaling in battlefield 4 on my gtx 670 SLI build at 8x/4x on my i7 860 overclocked to 3.8ghz.
>>
>>53289222
Fuck linus, that scumbag shekel prostate spelunker.
>>
>>53289405
The scaling goes down with additional cards.
590s are dual GPUs so one alone is equivalent to two (albeit neutered) GTX580s.

aka a GTX950
>>
>>53289514
Yeah but he said "60% is the most you can hope for in 2 way".
Not 4 way.
>>
A single Pascal card would be faster than 590

You're fucking crazy for wanting any Fermi card. Shit OP.

Could get 75-80 bucks a pop for them on Ebay,

buy what makes you happy. but yes it is a horrible idea for price:performance.

quads don't lie.

4gb 630GT
Nvidia everyone

remember owned this when mech warrior 3 was a thing it got to 89C in every game.

lel.

lel is funny pissing on it compered to my 380 4GB
yet I paid 400NZD for both.
this was the date I grew a brain and went with AMD fuck i could even sell it because it catch on FUGGING FIRE.

FUCK NVIDIA AND ITS SHILLS. NEVER AGAIN
>>
>>53286748
Phantom Pain doesn't run on the 590. I have one, it just recently died too.

:(

Don't buy it. Performance per watt is being garbage and so is compatibility. A 660ti is better except for memory bandwidth.
>>
Is this chart valid?
Is the HD530 from skylake really that good?
It blows my mind how modern IGPUs are a tier above and under the HD 4870, that mofo uses two 6 pin power plugs.
