Why don't you write your own device drivers /g/?

What is required to write device drivers?
Any specific languages?

C

Low level memory access/device access
>Any specific languages?
C/Assembly work best, but most drivers are written (at least partially now) in C++ with a bit of assembly here and there.

I couldn't have chosen a more accurate cover for a linux driver book.

I bet you are a tranny scum

Because I'm writing the kernel.
Someone else can write the drivers.
>>
I'm a woman, and I have. Without accurate register documentation, needing to use trial and error to discover a clock errata on the hardware.

It requires a certain amount of bloody-minded determination. I don't recommend it
>>
I'm not good enough to write a kernel driver for my pexhdcap.
I wish someone was and would do it, still. I want RGB capture back on my rig.

Why did you have to mention that?
What purpose does that relate to the topic of writing a driver?

Basic trolling tactics. Sad to see /g/ still fall for it.

I'm scared this might actually happen in my lifetime. And the cucks will praise it like the second coming.

Which is why I'm going to do it.

Isn't there a russian CPU that use java bytecode as its instruction set?

There are several implementations of this already.
It won't become mainstream, but it already exists.

How does being a man relate to writing drivers? What's up with that manliness stuff in OP picture?
>>
>>53277723
>How does being a man relate to writing drivers?
It doesn't
>What's up with that manliness stuff in OP picture?
He's making a jest about how people, yes people, always complain about drivers but never write them themselves.

The vast majority of linux users are men, so he targeted the joke at men.
>>
>>53277723
Stop trying to oppress men with your misanthropic sexist views. Writing drivers can be manly, if you want to say its not you are free to do so but it makes you a sexist piece of shit.
>>
>>53276620
Because my devices don't specify their interfaces.
I think it's pretty obvious that you need to know the underlying hardware in order to make a REAL driver (not some "totally werks-oh wait it doesn't" - linux tier version)
>>
>>53277750
>>53277760
Sorry, but it's Linus' and OP's fault for bringing gender into this. She was within her rights to brag about being a woman and writing drivers when this activity was linked with masculinity in OP.
>>
>>53277723
>>53277750
“when men were men and ...” is a figure of speech
>>
>>53277812
No, its not ok to attack people for bringing gender into a discussion when its socially acceptable, as in to say writing drivers is manly as a joke.

However, when you say stupid shit like lol i'm a woman and question why writing drivers is manly you are just literally being a cunt.
>>
>>53277750
This is not a joke, this was posted at the time of Linux 0.2 launch I think.
Also it's a figure of speech
>>
>>53277789
>my devices don't specify their interfaces
It shouldn't be legal.
