Would you buy a used r9 290x for 210 dollars
>>
>>53275485
Nah, I wouldn't. But that's cause Im a snob and want my parts fresh, not used and abused
>>
That's a good price. There's always the risk of buying used parts though.
>>
Used GPUs is something I'd never consider buying. Used components in general is already a pretty big risk.
>>
>>53275527
Thanks for the help, famalam
>>
>>53275485
Also, for the difference in price, and difference in specs id recommend going with the gtx 780. I use that in my desktop and ive been using it for 3 years and I have yet to play a game that it cannot run at ultra, it's also OC II. I got it OCed and im sure it'll last me another 3 years. These things are real big bad boys, unless you have the money to throw away and burn these things should be lasting you 5+ years no problem. My 2cents.
>>
>>53275485
No, I've been burned buying used hardware before. The last thing I would buy is a used card.

If it was a CPU, well that's a bit less risky. Or with something like a used drive I don't have much to lose.

I own a GTX 780 and I think you're an idiot. If you haven't played a game that "it can run at ultra" then you must have incredibly low standards for framerates or you just don't play that many games. Just out of stuff I have installed right now, I can list:

Lords of the Fallen
Fallout 4
Just Cause 3
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Assassin's Creed: Syndicate
XCOM 2

That my 780, overclocked to 1176MHz, can't maintain a stable 60fps at 1080p maxed out. Or even remotely close to maxed out in the likes of RotTR or AC:S. And that's without getting into other hugely demanding games I don't own like the last couple of Far Cry releases that a 780 can't come near to maxing out unless you want to play at 30fps or below.

The 290X is a whole tier above the 780 these days. Recommending a 780 over it is just dumb. I can't wait to ditch mine when the new cards arrive.
>>
>>53275548
just replace that thermal paste if it gets too hot quickly and youre all good

Not when you can get a new 970 for $250 and OC it.

the 290x has always been a tier above the 780... the 290x was released to compete with the titan (and later the 780ti), not the 780.

kek you're literally cucking yourself if you're still geting that card
>>
>>53275485
Yes.
I own a Vapor-X 290.
It's an OP card, and despite its age still gaining performance. It's on par with a 980 these days ffs.

Not quite. They were pretty much similar on release.

Nvidia gimping its cards with intentionally dodgy drivers and AMD doing the exact opposite. Feels good making a good investment.

>tfw my 290 is still gaining performance
>tfw it's on par with 980 these days
>tfw 980 is going down same road as 780
>tfw nvidia keks got btfo AGAIN
The way it's meant to be played, right?
>>

Pascal vs. Polaris

Which one should I go for?
>>
>>53277284
I'd wait for the benchmarks, but considering how fucked up NVIDIA's business practices are I'd go with AMD.
>>
>>53275629
780 clockspeeds suck my 980ti gets 1450
>>
>>53275485
It's probably been used for mining. If I knew the guy, yes.
>>
>>53277296
True man.

I own a GTX 970 and am happy with it, but I'm going to sell my current desktop.
I want to get something that can last me many many years down the road.
Hate how NVIDIA gimps there cards with drivers and shit, only thing holding me back are heat and power consumption from AMD chips.
>>
>>53277313
Nobody still does this tho so like u can buy cards from 2014 n newer when the bitcoin craze died
>>
>>53277332
Tell me what concerns you? The card temp? Or the 70w difference between the two competing card at load?
>>
>>53277332
>Worried about power consumption
You'll end up paying maybe 10-15 bucks a year more on power.
>Heat
Get a Sapphire edition with some proper fans and this will be a non-issue.
>>
>>53275485
Im a cuck for parts I can return if it's DOA and has a year warranty. But If you personally know the seller and know first hand it works, sure.
>>
>>53277340
People did mine with the 2xx series. They we're out if stock fast.
>>
>>53277345
>>53277352
Yea desu I dont care about wattage that much. I do care about heat output though, I live in Maimi, Florida.
>>
>>53277575
Wasn't it NVIDIA who constantly gets blasted with the housefire meme?
>>
>>53277595
Time's changed. The 290 reference card meme persists today.
>>
>>53277575
>>53277665
This.
As long as you don't buy an AMD reference card you should be good. Best brands for AMD are XFX and Sapphire.
>>
>>53277688
XFX is pretty cheap also
>>
>>53277595
>>53277665
Yea most expect a few smaller GPUs run hot asf
