Gonna go 1 month without Windows(7), just with Ubuntu 16.04

So this means no games. I only played gta v and cs go.

Day 2: I find it frustrating to install java jdk and android studio.
Everything seems pretty smooth and fast. It's a gaming laptop tho

>So this means no games. I only played gta v and cs go.

GTA V is shit and CS:GO is available "natively" already, just like any other Valve game.
>>
Is android studio stable/fast on linux?

What should i expect after 30 days?
Will i grow a fedora? Will my productivity skyrocket?
>>
>>53274866
By my experience, is way better, and the phone drivers are even better to work it. It is almost instantly
>>
>Ubuntu 16.04
That's not out yet. Enjoy your instability.
>>
>>53274906

Awesome, no more fucking around with adb drivers

>>53274909

No issues so far

I tried using Linux Mint 3 months ago and the only reason why I return back to Windows is because I can't sync my song to iPad.

I rarely game on PC since I have PS4 and only use PC just to watch animu but the inability to sync music and stuff to my iPad made me switch back to Windows.
>>
>>53275049
And this, young children, is why we avoid Apple products.
>>
>>53275066
The only reason why I bought an iPad in the first place is because of Foreflight since I need it to do pre-flight and file a flight plan before I fly.

Then I ended up using it as music player and shitposting on 4chan when I'm bored.
>>

>>53275049

Bait
>>
>>53275124
I'm pretty darn sure everyone on 4chan is just rich people hiding their powerlevel at this point.
I posted a lot back in /lft/ regarding keeping a HDD having 2 NTFS and ext4 for linux tho
Obviously not bait.

Actually if there's a way to sync music and stuff to iPad on Linux I'll probably have another try at installing it again desu

It's pretty lightweight since I only have 2GB laptop just for watching animu
>>
>>53275213
I don't have any Apple devices myself, but after a quick google search there seems to be a lot of solutions.
>>
>>53275262
Yeah I did search around at that time and I found this:
http://www.libimobiledevice.org/

but I kinda came here just to get like a "/g/ approved" solutions. I guess I should ask in /lft/ again some time when I've some free time to install Linux again.
>>
>>53275213
Since when did being rich have anything to do with having a high power level? And since when did being rich mean you're going to buy ibads and apple shit?
>>
Is it true that linux doesnt get slow over time, unlike windows?
>>
>>53275426
Linux installs never live long enough to get slow.
>>
>>53275426
Depends on how much shit you put in your autostart, but it is mostly true since there is no registry that gets bloated over time on windows.

Windows will get slow over time no matter what.
Linux will only get slow if you make it slow yourself.
>>
>>53275426
Been running my Mint install for a year now and I haven't noticed anything.

It's actually quite badly maintained because of a lot of beginner mistakes on my side, but even still it runs perfectly.

It doesn't even need to be rebooted every now and then.
>>
Wtf now im uninstalling OpenJdk and installing OracleJdk because android studio complains OpenJdk is unstable

Do i need to run some commands after installing/removing software, eg : for cleanup?

Also? Do dependencies get removed as well when you remove a program?

If you need to be doing productive work of any kind, then dual boot.
Some stuff in Linux works like 80% of the time and the remaining 20% always happens when you're in the middle of some serious stuff (Murphy's law or some shit).
Some examples of things that break:
>WiFi
>internet when using USB network interfaces
>anything video related if you use proprietary drivers
>video playback with any drivers
>some websites just simply not work

I find Mint to be amazing and I try to use it all the time, but sometimes you'll need some stability and you'll want to switch to Windows.
YMMV tbqh tho
>>
>>53276793
all of that is bullshit
things don't just magically "break" out of nowhere
>>
>>53276793
This
If you frequently visit sites that use Flash then it's a good idea to dual boot.
mpv usually works fine for me though, and the wifi never broke on me. Then again I am using a distro based on Debian Stable.

If you frequent Youtube I suggest getting Greasemonkey, Mozplugger, and Viewtube.
>>
>>53274845
If you wanna game, senpai, why not KVM? Xen has got your back

I said YMMV.
And I should also probably tell that I'm on a laptop with dual GPU.
I never said that it magically breaks, but performing some actions cause it to fuck up. Just to name two that happened to me literally 20 minutes ago:
>Plug laptop into wall
>it starts charging
>take battery out
>it still thinks the battery is charging, giving me the remaining time

>switch WiFi off using the panel applet
>can't turn it back on using the keyboard fn button (sometimes can't turn it back on at all)

Oh and the usb 3.0 to Gigabit NIC I have only works 1 out of 10 boots, never if I plug it in after boot.
Not hating on Linux, but these small details sometimes pile up and I like to have a stable backup as OS. I'm hoping Ubuntu 16.04 will be a valid alternative to Mint to go full Linux
>>
Do you get the usual video tearing shit or did they finally correct it ?

So i installed Android Studio and the laptop is spinning at maximum, the laptop overheats without doing anything intensive (it's just an IDE)

So yeah, back to windows 7 for me. I'm gonna dual boot

Being rich doesn't mean that's what you buy. It just means you can go get one without refinancing your house.
