2000 games don't matter if they're all dating sim tier shit and tiny indie games. Linux needs support from the AAA companies and the high price high popularity games.

Linux gaming is fine. It's just that Linux users don't play games because of both elitism and because they don't believe good Linux games exist.

Besides that, people already have large established collections of games dedicated to Windows.

It's honestly more /v/ although the technical implications of game porting could probably be discussed as well as its effects on tech companies' market share

All blizzard games work pretty flawlessly with wine:
D3, sc2, wod raiding, hearthstone, heroes of the storm
>>
>>53260219
The problem is that other companies now officially support Linux and Blizzard's "We might let you play in Wine, we might ban you for using Wine" stance is outdated.

If they want to support Linux using a wrapper based solution that's fine, but they need to host it and support it officially. Unfortunately that's not going to happen as they're currently shifting away from PCs to consoles and idiotically switching to DirectX.
>>
>>53259957
Honestly there's a lot of good Linux games but not the type the modern person would want to touch

As an example Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is fucking great. However it's a roguelike that looks as if it came straight out of the 90s.

Cube 2: Sauerbraten is a good arena shooter that comes with an ingame map editor that doesn't fucking suck but the graphics and gameplay are a lot like Quake which just turns off people who are used to CSGO or Call of Duty.

Both games mentioned are Free and Open Source with DCSS under GPLv2 and Sauerbraten under zlib

There's not a lot of good games under Linux but there are quite a few.
>>

Gaben was afraid Windows would switch to an apple-style app store where you could only buy software through Microsoft. MS was talking about this in the early Windows 8 days.

Since this would destroy his business, he's been working like mad to diversify PC gaming away from Windows. More success with titles than with users, but that's okay.

It will get even better with Vulkan since everything Unreal and everything Frostbite will become easy ports.

You can look up Windows-only games on Wine as well and see if they work well enough to play.
>>
>>53261159

And it definately seems like Windows is actually going for this, now. There was this new originally xbox-exclusive game, that's now going windows store exclusive on PC as well.

>>
>>53261241
I like how 5 implemented a checkpoint system for missions, but it went way too heavy on flashy muh cinematic experience. And free roam is a huge part of GTA. The physics in 4 were honestly better in 4, for the most part. In 5 if someone gets shot they act like nothing happened, in 4 they act more realistic to being shot
>>
I'm surprised Bethesda didn't release Fallout 4 on SteamOS. Doesn't make sense why they never publish Linux games, especially considering they have a relationship with Valve. I wouldn't be surprised if they literally couldn't figure out how to port their engine given how much of a broken mess it is now.

Ubuntu is pretty much just as bad
Mint is a slightly better beginner distro, but I'd honestly just start with Fedora or Debian because they're both very stable and well maintained with strong community support. It's really not hard to get into at all, as long as you're just using a premade installation
Also don't listen to the person telling you to dual boot, because you might as well just use w10 at that point
