I just started working again, making bank too. So I'm gonna build just about the highest end 1080p machine I can. Post your best parts and reliability with those parts, and why I should use them over others. Pic unrelated.

Making bank compared to not working, like I was. I'm still in college, so I won't be making actual, "bank", yet.

Do you recommend going all in and 4k?
>>
>>53245300
Yes you will want probably two Fury X GPUs, 32gb ecc ram and a 12 core Xeon.

There is no such thing as a 1080p, let alone 4k machine. Different applications have different demands. If you only want 4k output, any GPU with a DVI port can do that. "4k machine" and "1080p" are leddit-tier marketing terms and you should feel bad for using them.

I want neo /g/ to leave.

Answer this, OP. Are you gaming? Working? Watching movies? And what is your budget?

>making bank
$100 in spare cash? $2500? $85,000?
>>
>>53245330
I want a lot of Hz with a high resolution, but I don't want to be stuck with 1080p. I was also told by a friend who's gonna help me with it that maybe I just wanna wait until Zen.

>>53245341
I will use it fr school work and gaming, but I want the power mostly for gaming with great frames and resolution. I'll go pretty expensive.
>>
>>53245472
Working ad college a lot, but I need a good computer. I should be making about $500 a week, if it goes as planned, and I don't have trouble saving, so my budget goes pretty high.
>>
>>53245336
calm your edgetism
>>
My friend told me if I wanted to go 4k, I'd need like $1200 just for the graphics cards, and I'm no down with that. So I guess 2k would be okay but it seems kind of a meme.
>>
>>53245488
>>53245477
Shoot for a 1440p@144Hz, bankman. That means at least 2x $500 cards, or waiting for this year's 14/16nm releases.
>>
>>53245530
How much will the new ones cost?
>>
I'd personally have higher framerate than resolution... So a 2k 144hz sounds wonderful to me.
>>
>>53245546
No idea. Flagship releases have been $500+ for a few generations now.
>>
>>53245570
2k=/=1440p

>>53245612
I'm not understanding the operator here.

>>53244953
i7-5930K
Middle-class mobo like X99-A
GTX 980Ti (EVGA SC+ ACX+ 2.0 or Asus STRIX or Gigabyte)
8 Gigs of RAM (no more than 16)

There you go. A nice 1440/1080p 60fps gayman machine.
>>
>>53245755
What if I want 120fps?
>>
>>53245832
Then get 2 980 ti's to go with your expensive 144hz 1440p monitor.

If you want consistent 120 or 144hz performance at 1440p you are going to have to spend around $1000 on two graphics cards. That's just all there is to it.

If 120/144hz is more important than high resolution and you can't afford the above, then you are stuck with going 1080p ("good enough" for most people but not really cutting edge in 2016) in which case you will only need one pretty strong graphics card.
>>
>>53245921
Okay. My friend recommended 2 390's for the graphics. Would that be good for 120fps 144hz at 2k?
>>
>>53246011
I think that'd be a pretty powerful setup. It'd probably depend on what game you were playing from that point onward, but if I were you I'd just get one 980ti for around the same cost if not a little less than two 390s and then add in a second 980ti down the road if you feel like you need one. I say this as someone that usually buys AMD cards too. Just see how you do with the one card and then you can add in a second one very easy later if you need it.

High refresh rate gaming is weird. There aren't a lot of games coming out these days that even support high fps and the ones that do typically don't have huge overhead requirements. Some exceptions to this are games like Battlefield 4/Battlefront which are pretty demanding on the CPU.
>>
i5 980ti 8gb 1600mhz
>>
>>53246149
Okay, I'll try that. I'm probably mostly gonna play fallout, minecraft , elder scrolls, and total war when I have time, but I'm probably gonna mod the crap out of it. I guess 120 fps isnt that important, I just want it to stay above 60, with all the mods and such.
>>
But as a CO major, I'd need it to program too, but that's less demanding than gaming.

No, 1440x2160. Higher than 1920x1080.

That's what dad told me to do. Am I still gonna wanna gaym when I'm retired?

I also thought about investing. Like stocks and stuff, but I don't really know too much about it so I'll just open a mutual fund once I get nice and settled after graduation from.
