I felt the dead horse needed another beating.

Do people really still use Windows in production environments? Is that not dangerous and/or just plain irresponsible?

I thought companies would work very hard to keep malware off of their network.
>>
>>53242373
I worked for a company that manage identifications (using cards, biometric stuff etc.).
Windows wasn't released we already had clients asking when we will get a windows 10.
I'm starting to wonder if people that decided which language, technologies or OS to use just know a little bit about the subject.

No.
See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXS8ljif9b8
Even Theo De Raadt rates Windows second in security. Using GNU/Linux would be dangerous and irresponsible which is why it's only used on cheap vms that can be thrown away and quickly re-imaged when they inevitably fuck up.

>Kill Desktop Control Panel

Good. The settings app is a much better place to move it to and who even uses control panel anyway?

GodMode folder works much better, only plebs and people who don't even really use windows complain about this shit.

And? I was annoyed that a ton of settings in the control panel wasn't in settings.

It is. I missed it when I upgraded to 10.

Or firewalls, switches, routers, mission-critical servers (i.e. the ones that hold your financial databases).

Windows? Yes. Windows 10? No.

Not to mention the hypervisors that your VMs are run on. No large deployments use Hyper-V. SMBs do, but it's not suitable for tens of thousands of VMs.

They're basically admitting Windows 10 was rushed out the door with an incomplete browser and settings menu. Not that it wasn't obvious from how half-assed and flakey it was on launch. The November update just made it more tolerable.
>>
honestly though the windows control panel is a fractal of bad design. they started with a fairly simple menu system and then they just kept bolting shit onto it for years and years. so tons of important options aren't in logical places, and many are hidden in 4-5 levels of submenus such that you'd never find them without googling for where they are

that said, microsoft's recent efforts don't fill me with confidence. what we get will probably be even worse than what we had. it's like going from garbage you're familiar with to garbage you're not

trisquel.info etc

>>
>>53244959
We all know the real reason behind the redesign: make it harder to disable tracking.
>>
>>53244977
Imagine trying to track down (hurr) and disable all the tracking options in the classic control panel, though.
>>
>>53244990
Sure, you google it, know how to do it, then M$ updates the layout reverting the settings to default. It's pretty much what Facebook has been doing for years.

I bet my ass they backtrack on this very quickly. Even 3rd party shit finds itself onto the control panel.

As for me I am slowly moving to Gnu/Linux and while I dual boot for the moment soon I will not even bother and just VM Windows on Linux.
>>
>>53245033
They will have a "Legacy" section for all the leftover 32-bit control panels from 3rd parties.

One of the most popular financial systems is Dynamics GP which requires Microsoft SQL Server. The rest is right.
>>
>>53242373
Because it is widely compatible with everything, easy to use, has good business software, and you can harden it if you aren't retarded. Last part is especially important. A shit enterprise setup can ruin everything, but that is with every OS.
>>
>>53242373
Yes. Microsoft charges them extra for the special enterprise editions that have standard features that even fucking macs have, like not having soft-limits on outgoing network traffic and no telemetry.
