Asus C300 user here.

I really like it too be honest, it's handy to have for general browsing and shit posting on here.

It's a shame I can't run proper Linux natively without having to use crouton or a different kernel.

Yeah I'm way too lazy to bother putting linux on it, but they're perfect devices for consuming media and shit. I take mine to classes from time to time too and the silent design + crazy good battery life is legit.

Yeah, I get around 10-12 hours battery on the C300 with a usable screen brightness.
I actually bought mine for college, but I never use it for that, I mainly use it to post on 4chan & forums and sometimes watch movies.
>>
>>53236805
This. What a waste of money.
>>
Should I buy a chromebook if my primary use for it is just for word processing? I'm tight on budget too.
>>
I bought a chromebook. Flashed a rom and now use Linux exclusively. It was a good purchase for me because I learned a lot about Linux, but I won't buy another one
>>
>>53238002
Yes. Get a cheap one and install Linux and LibreOffice or LaTeX.
>>
>>53236537
LITERALLY this

I got an Acer C740 for $100 and it was well worth it I think.

I installed Fedora Linux on it and it works perfectly. The steps to initially be able to install Linux on it were a pain in the ass though, and actually required physically removing a screw.

Is that the Toshiba Chromebook 2? If OP cannot answer, can someone else tell? It honestly looks very good for its price. Local Microcenter has the 1080p model for $280.

Is Chrome OS useable as a daily driver for basic use? I only need it for taking notes, checking email, web browsing, and occasional skype calls.

If it has full Linux support that would be a huge plus.
>>
Got that series five I think.
It's running unbuntoo or however the Fuck you spell it
Can't do shit with it though because it's an arm processor instead of a i386

Got a c720
It's perfect for the uni, I can use it the whole day and it still will have 20-30% of battery when I arrive home
>>
>>53239542
Yeah flawless (owned it for like 3 months) take it to warranty, but I changed the sshd for a ssd and used the hard drive as an external hard drive

I'm not poor, I have a real laptop.
>>
>>53236520
It look like a macbook.
Why did they remove the Windows key to put oversized Ctrl and Alt buttons?
>>
>>53239828
It does look a lot like a macbook.

It looks like the equivalent of the Windows key/Mac command key is the search key, replacing capslock.

That's reasonable imo, but the buttons do look too big. Maybe if they added a fn key (although this would only make it more macbook-like)
>>
>>53239065
Instead of downloading music from what.cd and using a real music player, you use a bloated piece of proprietary software, give out identifying information, and pay money, to stream music.
>>
I honestly fucking hate my chromebook. Dont EVER buy a chromebook. Worst decision of my life.
>>
>>53239828
>Why did they remove the Windows key to put oversized Ctrl and Alt buttons?

Because it doesn't run Windows, and that layout is better than having the crappy windows key in the center. It allows for better more comfortable keybinds with ctrl/alt.

At one point almost all keyboards just had big ctrl/alt keys next to eachother, old thinkpad keyboard layouts were my favorite.

>>53240349
That's because you're dumb, probably use ChromeOS on it, are generally a technology pleb, and "hurr durr why can't it run .exe file".

If you were looking for a good cheap Linux laptop, many chromebooks are very good for what they cost.

>Having to flash the BIOS, potentially bricking the piece of shit

Sounds like a great deal! Just kidding, kill yourself.

You can buy a similar specced cheap-as-shit netbook, turn secureboot/UEFI off in the BIOS, and install whatever you want without having to jump through Google's 20 hoops of bullshit. Get an Asus X205TA.

>>53241354
Except that ChromeOS is completely useless in every possible way, thus making it's existence on the device pointless and ultimately detrimental.
