So how many fans do you actually need? I heard people say "they dont need any", some saying "one in, one out" and then theres Jaystwocents. and his magically clown-car pc
>>
>>53229730
The answer is: it depends.
>>
>>53229730
it's not the amount of fans, but the power of the pressure generated, be it through 10 small fans or 1 big fan.

my current pc is an i5 with a 960 housed in a corsair 350D is a decent 140mm in the froint and a 120mm in the back enougth? or overkill
>>
>>53229836
>enougth?
depends if you can reach a decent overclock without crashing.
>>
Theres never enough air.
>>
>>53229855
4.3 on air

I have one exhaust fan in my case and of course one on my CPU that's it. My 4790K idles at 27c in Florida and runs at load at 55c. Anyone who says you need more than one is just a retard that doesn't know how to properly manage their cables and apply thermal paste properly. Oh and my motherboard rubs at a cool 36c.
>>
>>53229730
All of them.
>>
>>53230004 here. Fucking typos. On my phone. Runs not rubs.

The more you have the lower RPM they can all operate at to achieve a satisfying level of cooling. This also means less noise.

Jays is definitely overkill, but the concept still stands.
>>
>>53230004
What's your CPU fan? I have an i3 and my PC rarely ever drops below 30c. Also Florida.

As for case fans I had 2x12 front, 1x12 side, 1x12 rear, 1x14 top

Left only 1x12 front and 1x12 rear and there's almost no difference in temps.

>>53229730
NEEDS MOAR BLUE LEDS
>>
Skunkworks has a ton of fans so they can run as slowly as possible.
>>
>>53229730
At least four, no exceptions.
>>
I have carbide air 540 and I have 3x 120mm on the front 2x 140mm on top and 140mm on the back

I've like 4 and I don't even keep the case closed tbqh: 1 on cpu heat sink (non-stock), 1 in the back, 1 large in the front to blow heat off the drives and 1 stock gpu fan. This is the current CPU temp, the drives measure between 23 and 30, only the external boxed HDD seems to reach temps close to 40 because there're no fans on it, the gpu barely reaches 70 °C when I watch 10-bit anime with some avisynth filters it's usually around 43 °C when idle.
>>
>>53229730
air purifier
>>
2 on mATX or smaller
3 on Mid tower or bigger (assuming they're not $3 fans)

after that the temp. decrease isn't worth the cost of a $15 fan/s
>>
1 Delta fan.

Maybe two if you have your computer in a shitty spot

I have eight fans running in my case and all of them are at 50% rpm with airflow to spare. The loudest thing in my entire PC is the hard drives when they spool up and the pumps in my 980 Tis and AIO.
>>
So I've got two large 140mm on the top of the case then two 120mm fans pulling air from them on my h100i gtx. I have a single front 120mm fan blowing in over my hard drives and then two 140mm exhaust fans on the side of the case. It's very quiet and everything stays fairly cool BUT at one point i only had the one 120mm fan and i had it pointing at my gpu which then ran 7c cooler. It doesn't get super hot under full load (r9 270 at 58c under full load, was 51c before.)

all of them. but use only the good ones. you want a quiet pc
>>
I have zero case fans because they crapped out. And somehow zero housefires. Usually stays below 30C.
>>
>>53229730
None.

I have one on my cpu but you don't need any casefans.
>>
depends on the TDP of your CPU, heat from nb/sb, and maybe how much air your GPU cooler picks up.
>>
Need, the bare minimum to keep your system below the recommended temps.

But any one going for the bare minimum should stick to a prebuild anyway.
>>
>>53235502

Maybe because you live somewhere that is usually cold?

I live in Brazil and if you don't put fans on your pc, it will last only one winter.

Then it will either blow up, catch fire or die slowly, component by component. All of those things happened to me when I was a younger.
>>

>Then it will either blow up, catch fire or die slowly,
Modern hardware should just throttle and eventually self-shut down. That's in theory though. In reality I've seen GPUs allow themselves to get well above the safe range until they just fry. CPUs, though, generally should do a good job of preserving themselves.

US midwest. It flashes between freezing and boiling all the time, so sometimes it's being tested, others not. Luckily it's not on constant trial like where you said. Still a pretty solid cheap heatsink/fan.

The money required to buy all those noctua fans is probably more than the price of the average /g/ system, kek.
>>
1 in 1 out. Linus Fag Tips actually did a video about using more fans... Tested a few different methods. You can check it out if you don't mind giving him your precious views and free time.

shoulda used an enthoo pro, what a dumbass since the case he used didnt have slots at the bottom

Need? 2. One on your CPU and one on your case. You should probably have 3-5. More than 7 is probably excessive.
