I really don't want to buy a Samsung phone, but what can I do when the s7 is just better than everything else? I wouldn't mind the snapdragon 820 being a tad slower than the new exynos in benchmarks, but the s7 is just slightly better in all other categories as well.
We could argue about displays (although we're at a point where samsung's oled displays are not only better at displaying blacks, but are also brighter than LCD displays), and resolution, but ultimately the reason the s7 wins over everything else, is the much larger battery, and the fact that their new britecell sensor + f/1.7 aperture just fucks everything in the ass.
I would so love to buy a Sony phone again, but I just can't justify buying a phone with a worse display, worse battery, worse camera and slower soc. And the s7 is even ip68 certified, so I there's literally nothing other phones have on it.
Sony and LG are severely cucking themselves, Nokia is a joke, HTC is non existent, and chink phones also have stupid flaws, like mediatek socs, shitty cameras with f/2.0 aperture, no OIS, 1080p LCD screens (which aren't bad at all, but samsung's displays are noticably better now) and no waterproofing.
You know you're living in sad times, when you either have to buy an iShit for alleged privacy, or a Samshit Galaxy phone for performance.

I was super hyped for the mi5 to be honest, I wouldn't even mind the 1080p screen, I have an Xperia Z2, and I'm totally satisfied with its screen. But I like taking pictures with my phone, and the difference is just too big to ignore. I mean it's an f/2.0 vs an f/1.7 aperture, and I've also read some great things about samsung's new sensor.
Of course this is just me, for someone else the camera might not be a deal breaker, but the point is that whatever might be important to you (battery life, screen, camera, benchmarks, water resistance or expandable storage), the s7 is just better at that thing than the competition. Unless you want something specific, like a metal body, compact size or a dedicated camera button (which is the only thing the s7 is missing imo).
