Ceramic is very hard. The ceramic used in phones is about 8 on the moh scale, diamond being 10, steel about 8. I imagine that makes it brittle, but I've never had a problem with my ceramic wok around the kitchen. It's undoubtedly tougher than any tempered glass.
Come to think of it my watch is made of ceramic and that's never had a chip or scratch.
It doesn't feel as cold as metal.
