Yeah, if it ran games, Visual Studio, SSMS, Office, Unity IDE, WPF apps, and (most importantly) tons of enterprise application clients that simply aren't built for Linux because it isn't used in 98% of businesses as a workstation.
And those are just the things I see open right now on my laptop.
There's also the massive loss of productivity to switch to an entire different operating system when you've been using one for nearly 25 years.
Android could quickly become a threat to consoles with Vulkan. Soon it will get to the point a $200 android micro console outperforms the xbone and PS4.

Unreal Tournament 2004 is the only game I've ever purchased where the installation CD has a native Linux install script that installed fine under Fedora 2 or whatever I had at the time. I was really impressed to see a AAA game running smooth on Linux and not just tux racer.
So the ability is definitely there, but game publishers and graphics card companies don't want to support two standards for every game. it's bad enough they have to support multiple version of directx. Vulkan will be sort of an after though for desktop gaming due to this.

I really hope Apple gets on the Vulkan train with OSX. I like my Macs, but they're never going to get anything but iOS ports if they stick with Mantle and deprecate OpenGL.
I suppose the hope is that it's all papered over with middleware, but not every game runs on the big-few engines that support every platform/API under the sun.
