9800 GT from unknown to 2008.

"Upgraded" to a GTX 980, it melted the PCI slot it was in on my motherboard because my case had shitty cooling / air flow.

Upgraded to a H2O loop and a bigger case, been using it since and it has delivered faithfully to this day and doesn't expose me to unhealthy amounts of additional heat.

nvidias do work well on hackintoshes. Still find the 670 quite adequate for 1080p/1440p. Intel graphics are shit.

It was midrange. Was back when Nvidia put out the first GeForce I believe.

>>53122935
A GPU won't throttle on behalf of the PSU. The PSU has no way of communicating with the system.

Used a Sparkle GeForce 9400 GT with a non-functional cooling fan from ~2009-2013, and that thing would get SERIOUSLY hot. I'm talking 95°C on a warm day kind of hot, since it was technically passively cooled. Upgraded that to a Galaxy GT 640 around Christmas 2013, which was alright considering I was still using an old Dell with a Core 2 Quad in it. Now using an EVGA GTX 950 SC+ ACX 2.0 that I got along with the rest of my build from this past Christmas, goes great with my Athlon X4 860K.

2014 NVIDIA GeForce (2nd) GTX650Ti Boost 1GB (1st 650Ti Boost RMA) (EVGA)

From my experience every single nvidia died in my hands and I have a Tempest EVO since 2009. I also sold mine 5770 to a friend and I know that its going to make 7 years soon (april).
Also, almost picked a R9 280/285 (dual from sapphire or xfx) instead of GTX960 but prices went crazy when I bought (and sold my old gpu few days before, so I actually couldn't wait much). I don't regret gtx960 tho, fanless 30C idle is great.

>2x EVGA GTX 770 2gb
Werked great. Ran my 5760x1080 setup amazingly well.
>2x MSI R9 290X 4gb
For whatever reason, I decided I'd try AMD out after years with team green. I was never a fan boy, just was always happy with Nvidia. Nothing but issues with these. Both cards 95c ALL the time in a case with excellent cooling. Had to go full loop just to use them. Performed about the same, and often WORSE than the 770s at 5760x1080. Fine for 1080, would test at 1440p but I gave them away when I got my 980s. I don't know that I'll give AMD another shot, maybe down the road.
>2x EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 SC
Excellent cards. Still are. I got lucky with chip lotto as they overclock insanely well. 1560mhz and perfectly stable.
>2x EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid
Only had these about 3 weeks, great so far. No complaints. I had a huge discount on the hybrids ($599) so couldn't say no even though I don't like AIOs. Can always throw them into loop if pumps die but I doubt I'll run into that with EVGA... every card I have from them still works.

Over-all I've had mostly good experiences from Nvidia. I only gave AMD a shot once and it wasn't the best experience but I can't judge the company off one product.

1995 - Integrated 1MB chip. I believe it was from SIS. It was ok.

2002 - S3 Trio64V+ 2MB. Freebie upgrade, Was ok.

2003 - Riva TNT. Could finally play 3D accelerated games. Shit was amazing.

2004 - Radeon 9600. Pretty ok for what I needed it for. My games ran well.

2005 - GeForce 6600GT. Better, but not significantly.

2006 - GeForce 7600GT. Old system had issues. Had to get a PCIe card for my new system.

2013 - GeForce GTX 260. Got it for cheap. Gave new life to my ageing C2D computer.

2014 - GeForce GTX 660. Better, but I didn't notice any huge improvements until I got my current i5 and started playing more demanding games. It was slightly bugged, some games crashed.

2015 - Radeon R9 290 (Gigabyte OC version). Loudest piece of shit I've ever owned. Card is good, cooler is a piece of shit. I regret buying this version of the card.

2016-2017 - Something quiet.

Actually, the price of the 750ti has come down a lot since I last checked. The EVGA 750ti at $110 is quite a good deal. The SC version is just a pre-overclocked version, not sure if they binned the SC chips.

Never knew what a GPU or graphics card was for years, and never had any problems.

Then buying new computer (~2006) and every single decent model I looked at had one along with an up-charge for it.
Got into heated debate with many a sales person about this obvious scam.

Eventually I got the cheapest one I could find.
I have checked my logs and my system has only used the thing only a few times a year, which tells me I did not really need the part anyway.

Then I got a newer computer, but this time the thing said it supported two monitors thanks to the graphics card. I got to say having a Word and Excel document open on two screens has really helped my productivity.

So now I know why my grandson wants a really powerful in the computer he is building. Bet his could add a third screen for PDF reading.

I haven't owned a computer with a dedicated (discrete memory) graphics card since the iBook G4. In the 90s I had "graphics cards" (RivaTNT level shit) in some desktops only because integrated graphics didn't exist.

For the light PC gaming I do (adventure games, walking simulators) modern integrated graphics is capable enough. If there was an affordable slick eGPU option for mug MBP I'd think about it, but I'll stick to (Sony/Nintendo) consoles for the no-fuss and better variety of games.

So long as you turn off AA I find I can play most games I've tried at acceptable frame-rates with higher graphics settings (I'd rather get less frames and keep the effects/quality, since I only play slow games).

It never reaches 100% during gameplay and the online consensus on the 930 is that it shouldnt throttle my GPU. Running @ 3.4 OC'd , I can get it up to 3.8 if I really wanted to.

I really think my PSU has lived its life out. I was having issues with my computer randomly shutting down during gameplay prior to changing the GPU .

Aand I forgot, had a 7950 briefly, a 5750 to hold me over an upgrade, a 9800GTX+ and a 8800GT for physX testing, and a few 8800GTS's.
>>
7200GS
8600GT
GTX 465 (SLI)
HD 7870
R9 390

pretty standard
>>
>>53140706
Hows the 390 ? are you too getting massive frame drops in non gpu intensive games ?
>>
6600gt -> 8600gs -> 4870 -> 6950 -> 970

waiting for amd to put out an actually competitive card instead of endless rebrands before i switch back
>>
Lets see, I don't remember my first Pentium MMX GPU so I guess it was some iGP crap.

Geforce 2 MX200
ATI 9600SE
ATI 4850
AMD 7730
AMD R9 390.

Mine is the Asus Strix card. It's pretty good. Fans are pretty much silent. Doesn't overclock well, I can only get like another 40hz on the core. I'm guessing its just my luck.
For gaming at 1440p 144hz I'm satisfied. I love freesync

I've never had frame drops in non intensive games, nor have I heard about it before. I mainly play old games as well.

probably never crashes because you have shaders set below high. Also I have a gtx 950 and got that same bug when i first bought the game. Verifying game cache integrity fixed it for me.
>>
>>53140867
thats odd. My old 5850 could run csgo without any frame drops on high settings , this new card stutters on low everytime something that draws more power comes in the screen. I've had crashes when something was supposed to explode in a game.

I guess ill have to toy around with clock blocker until I get something working.

2005: Sapphire 9600XT
2006/2007: Cant remember.
2008: 8800GT
2012-Yesterday: Sapphire HD7870
This is so fucking sad that my 7870 got fucked up, it met all my need even after 3 years. Now i have to wait half a year for a fucking Polaris!
>>
>>53141216
I wouldnt wait. Unless you plan on gaming at 4k or believe that you actually need to pay a higher price for last gen hardware that sells under a new name , you should go for a crossfire setup with 2 r9 380s , which is both cheaper and faster than a single 390 , if you can somehow manage the temps.
>>
all various integrated until 2012

gtx 640
gtx 750 ti
gtx 970
gtx 980ti
gtx 970

>Now i have to wait half a year for a fucking Polaris!

In all my experience from buying a GPU, purchasing newborn next gen card is always retarded.
In the next year they will released a perfected version of said first gen and you will be sorry for not waiting another year.

Unless you got money to throw around then be my guess.

But i think i can wait man. I've completed like 2 or 3 games in 3 years. I`m procrastinating so hard even tho video games is one of my main hobbies. I can manage to live with integrated intel hd but i will miss high quality animes with mADVR. I just don`t want to buy rebranded 7870 (X370) which i've lost and also pay more money for it.

Hmm...

Rage 128 Pro
Radeon 9800 Pro
Radeon 3870
Radeon 4870
Radeon 6870
Nvidia 680 because 6870 crapped out
AMD R9 290x
AMD R9 Fury X

Yeah, I guess I'm and AMD Fag.
>>
>>53141483

Then buy a 960.
I just bought a 390 last month, not regretting a single dime of it.

I doubt my feeling changed even if pascal or polaris came out.
>>
>>53141507
Correction 2 R9 Fury X's, because Hurr durr crossfire for 5% of the games it actually works in.
>>
>>53122823
2000- Nvidia Riva TnT 2 64 mb
2013 - Amd Radeon
2015 nvidia geforce gt 740 2gd ddr 5
>>
>>53141483
I guess just wait then. Im just saying $400 isnt bad at all for a crossfire setup. I paid around 300 for my single r9 390 , two 380s would outperform my setup in every possible aspect.

The problem is i`m from Russia. Over three years prices on tech got literally doubled and i don`t want to pay lots of money for the same shit i had. So guess i will wait and hope for better prices in the future (it wont happen). Thanks for the suggestion tho guys!

1- Some Trident shit I don't even remember.
I played Doom 1 & 2, Heretic, Epic Pinball and a few other games for 486.

2- Another card I don't remember the name, but this time on my Pentium 166mhz
Played mostly Megarace 1 & 2, Quake 1 & 2, Duke Nukem 3D

3- SIS 530 teached me to hate onboard graphics.
I played mostly Unreal and Unreal Tournament

Radeon 980 pro made me have a lot of fun
GTA SA and Doom 3 were some of my first games with this motherfucker. I loved it! It also was my first video card in linux to have any real support.

Radeon HD 3870 more of the same, wich was good.
I really got into TES IV: Oblivion with this beast. It got dropped out of official support some years ago and I was screwed both in Windows and Linux. At least AMD's open source drivers are OK.

Nvidia 980 TI - I decided to jump over the fence to get a really powerful card this time. Currently I'm mostly playing some stuff I didn't have the chance to play years ago. Nothing really new that uses it's full power yet. The closest I got was with Serious Sam 3 on Linux and Killing Floor 2 on Windows.

Canadian here , I know that feel son. I had to pay 100$ in import taxes on a OSVR HMD that already cost 450 maplebux.

Blows my mind that the government can make money off me spending money , but politics arent supposed to make sense , right ?
