Are you retarded? Did you expect to be able to walk down to your local Walmart and buy this shit in the bargain aisle? Building a computer to meet the minimum specs will set you back $800 and may not even run the games at a high enough FPS to be playable in a couple years, a computer for the recommended specs now days will set you back $1,100, and a computer built to still meet the recommended specs in a few years would cost about $1,700. If you want enthusiast hardware, expect to pay enthusiast prices. Anyone who was expecting this shit to be cheap was a moron.

This. VR, while "Consumer Ready" is at the enthusiast stage. What I think will really take off this year is VR arcades. The average person doesn't know how to build a computer that can run VR, and there will be the people that just buy expensive pre-builts designed for VR, but the only people that are really going to use this Gen is enthusiasts and places that will offer rent-to-use pricing like arcades.

That being said, I've tried it and I am perfectly happy paying 800$ and being an enthusiast first-adopter. It truly is amazing. If you haven't tried VR with tracked controllers, you haven't seen what VR is capable of.

This is going to be the Generation where people learn about VR at the consumer level, but Gen 2/3 will be when VR really starts to take off and people start investing more into it.
>>

In any case, Samsung Gear VR is sufficient for most multimedia uses. $100 assuming you already have an S6 or S7. It's only for gaming that you'll have to dish out the big bucks.

True, but since the PSVR apparently needs an external rendering chip because the PS4 can't handle 120 fps, I don't have my hopes up. It will come fast and hard though, similar to smartphones (though obviously not at the same volume).

>>I'm sticking with the Rift though since the Vive isn't getting any Japanese games/content.

I'm going with the Vive but I am kinda worried about this. I'm thinking things will be easily ported however and maybe a bunch of devs will switch once HTC gets more units out. HTC is closer to Japan after all.
>>
Honestly I'm on the fence. Oculus already works with shitting fuck tons of content. What can the Vive actually be used with? I've never found anything tangible aside from some garbage indie games.

Oculus you get to use with virtually any game with a first person view, it plugs into unity, UE4, MMD etc effortlessly, a lot of Japanese companies are building support for it and PSVR in but Ive heard nothing about Vive.

Aside from coming with the motion controllers, what perk does it have? What can you -actually- use it with?
>>
>>53108240
>what perk does it have?

Room scale and motion controls are standard.

Oculus might have more games but the majority are for use with a gamepad at launch. As someone that has already tried a bunch of those with a DK2 they don't really interest me much.

UE4 and Unity both have SteamVR plugins for Vive. It pretty much has the same support dev wise on engine level.

-shrug- If it's reliable info who cares where it's posted. Though this kind of confirms what I thought before, Vive can only work in games designed for it / ported to it. Can't run say, Borderlands or some shit like you can with the Rift?

>Borderlands or some shit like you can with the Rift?

You can't run Borderlands with the Rift. You use 3rd party drivers like VorpX which work with varying degrees. There aren't any for the Vive yet but honestly they work like shit anyway. You at least need some mods along with those drivers to make things sort of ok. You don't want to bother.
>>
>>53108383
Maybe you should tell nVidia to step up their driver game...
>>
>>53108417
Oh and I guess VorpX plans to have Vive support but this isn't really anything you should put much weight on for choosing one or the other honestly. Base it on the library of games that are actually ported over or have a good mod support. I can tell you now that Borderlands will play like shit unless someone does a good deal of mod support on it.
