How do you go about choosing the less important parts like ram and psu?
>>
>>53095901
Not sure if bait. One of them is important and the other is not.
>>
>PSU
>less important

I bet you're one of those retarded kids that buy cheap things that last a long time (motherboard, psu, memory, case, etc.) and spend your money on things that need to be upgraded every 2 years.
>>
>>53095925
Not sure if bait. Two of them are important

Fine then explain what I should be looking for in RAM then. To me it just stores 1's and 0's, there's nothing much more to it.
I'm going for a skylake build so DDR4 it is.

As for the PSU, my only criteria is that it be 600W and be quiet.
>>
>>53095950
>I bet you're one of those retarded kids that buy cheap things that last a long time
I've never had a psu die on me though
>>

I bet it's a i6700k May-may edition and a GTX 970 3.5gb special edition
>>
>>53095901
I use the resources in the sticky and lurk instead of shitting up the board with my dumb gamertard blog.
>>
>>53096029
Why is /g/ hating on skylake? What's the point in building a new pc if you don't use a new platform?
>>
>>53096011
PSU is the important one, retard. Get Seasonic and you're good.
>>
>>53096064
the "previous" generation is still being manufactured, performs better in the high end and isn't a buggy piece of microcode-cucked shit
>>
>>53096011
The PSU is important, retard. It's akin to gasoline to your fucking car.
>>
>>53096078
It performs the same. And has new features
>>
>>53096011
Well consider the fact that if you're not a nigger you should get decent ram which you can overclock. There's not a lot to choosing it but calling it less important?
>>
>>53096064
>I buy a new system solely because of marketing shit and dico waving instead of my actual needs
Gamertards, everyone.
>>
>>53096103
what new features? a die shrink and +10% in shitty synthetic benchmarks?

do they even have >4core shitlake Xeons with SMP support out yet?
>>

diablotek psu is the best around.
>>
>>53096129
New audio codecs, usb 3.1, type-c. It's faster!
>>

Literally some off-brand shit purchase you're trying to justify for yourself.

/g/ shits on new hardware without fail. It's cheaper to get the last gen so everybody does.

Just buy a 4790k or 5820k. They both have their place but the 6700k does not.
>>
>>53096544
Yeah for SLI of two 980ti STRIX Overclocked. They use up to 400watts each on overclocked gaming load. That's 800watt, other components use 250-300 watts (Overclocked i7 4790K to 4.8GHz).

So I have 1-200watts spare.

I bought this cheap piece of crap 750W PSU and it has been doing its job for more than 2 years now.
Sometimes cheap stuff is not that bad.
>>
>>53095901
Every piece of a custom build is as important as the part that preceded it. Don't cheap out or compromise.
>>
Approved PSUs:
> G2 750, 850, 1000
> GS 850, 1050
> HX850i
> Seasonic X-850
>>
>>53096103
Skylake is between 5% and 15% better than haslel clock per clock. Using high speed ddr4. Since Skylake benefits from high memory bandwidth
>>

P2 is better than G2

More like between 0 and 5%.
>>
>>53096678
And t2 is better than p2. But nobody buy those. Only the biggest goys.

G2 is more than enough. Even b2 is pretty fine
>>
>>53096678
Oh yeah, forgot the P2. It's always stupidly priced here compared to G2 so it's not on my radar.
>>
Seasonic and anything that isn't Kingston.
It's that simple.

God I hate troll cunts. But fuck it, I'll bite.

https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/STRIXGTX980TIDC3OC6GD5GAMING/specifications/

For 1 card:
>Power Consumption: up to 375W

For 2 card:
750W.

Recommended PSU wattage for all my components on eXtreme Power Supply calculate barring video card input. As the 980ti strix OC draw a lot more watts than reference 980ti. Is: Recommended PSU Wattage: 281 W

281 + 750 = 1031Watts in total required. I have an additional 200Watts spare.
>>
>>53096544
It's not like it uses any more power that any other PSU, it just has a greater rated capacity.

Getting a really nice PSU isn't even that expensive, he probably didn't spend more than like $200.
>>
>>53096766
Buying over powered PSUs is actually a terrible idea dumbass.
>>
psu is literally the most important part of build

also no clue how psu's work either

You know, I really hated TDP because everyone based their power usage on them...
But now I'm starting to appreciate it, whenever someone calculates it with TDP you know he's a fucking retard.
>>
>>53096976
If ripple is low then it really doesn't matter now if you've overspecced a power supply, unless you're using 80+ or 80+ Bronze. 92% efficiency is a high number nigs.

Why would a power supply be important? they all just generate electricity so there is nothing wrong with taking any brand. the graphic card is the most important to generate video games graphic and 3D models

>PSU
Reviews. Ability to handle what the box claims without going out of spec.

>RAM
Anything that doesn't look like ricer shit. Might get ricer ones and remove the heat spreader. Can install plain heat spreaders if they really are necessary.

>HDD
Any new drive is good enough for my games. Quiet is more important than a few more MB/s.

For servers I get matching drives.

>SSD
I don't really know. This guy I know cares a lot about these things, so I usually go by his suggestions. 840 Pro instead of EVO etc. Lately been thinking about those DC S3100 drives from intel for my server and laptop due to their powerloss protection.
>>
>>53096027
I've bought expensive highly regarded power supplies that died on me. They were highly regarded at the time anyways. Turned out a few later that the company cheaped out on capacitors, and those started to bulge after a while.

Had gutless wonders that I've been able to push for years as well, tho those are also dead now.

Maybe you should educate instead. This board sure would be better if people explained their point instead of spouting retard every time they see someone say something wrong.

>How do you go about choosing the less important parts like ram and psu?
You don't even need a PSU these days unless you're building a server farm or something. If your motherboard is anything UEFI - basically anything post 2011? unless you're buying cheap Chinese grey market crap - you can pretty much just plug it straight into the wall without needing a PSU in between.

RAM is important.

I usually cheap out on nothing and go for lower performance parts over higher performance but lower quality.

So instead of getting a shitty pair of 3200mhz 16gb RAM sticks. I'll go with a quality pair of 2666 16gb sticks. And I'll go for a 4x4 setup because I won't really need to upgrade. I have 8 RAM slots anyways.

But I'll choose a quality 600w PSU over a sketchy 1000w PSU.

I usually spend the least on RAM, HDD and case though. Expensive meme cases are memes. RAM from a decent brand is usually pretty good and most of the time/ scenarios speed isn't a big factor. DDR4 for me anyways. HDD's are cheap and most brands have very low failure rates. It's just for torrented movies and TV shows anyways. Always keep my SSD handy.
>>
>>53098907
The motherboard performs the power conversion in-line, dummy. One lead to the wall, and the case lights & graphics card takes their power as usual. Same tech as used in laptops.
>>
>>53098984
I don't believe you.

A cheap PSU will seem to work fine for a while until your build starts to have mystery problems caused by the shitty inconsitant power and ripple.

Why everyone hates on kingston ram?
