Why don't you use KDE, anon? Except for a few bad design decisions, it's almost perfect. And it also has we-care-about-our-users features rich file picker.

bcuz I use Windows 10 which is even betterer lol

That's just the KDE way the past 10 years. KDE3 was the last good KDE.

I see two complete and different designs there.

There is not comparison that one took the ideas from other.

>>53080088
It does lack the search functions in gnome. I also see a view different control methods relating to icons and sound devices detection.

Well it is easy to pull programs out, KDE is heavy on my top end device. Cinnmon was the only DE is could use and customize. Gnrome3 was trash, and mate is what shitty laptops use.
>>
Buggiest piece of shit DE ever.

I installed kubuntu-desktop 2 days ago, piece of shit uses 100% CPU all the time. I googled and found its actully a known bug in the system. but doesn't have a fix. wtf
>>
>>53080112
My choices:
KDE/i3wm if the computer can handle it
MATE/i3wm on slower computers
i3wm for work

It is useful if you enjoy an over kill of fancy eye candy.

I only found it to be unfriendly to a power user. I lived in terminal because the delay in the start menu - both normal and classic - were turded by bugs and lag.
>>
>>53080159
>I only found it to be unfriendly to a power user
That's like the definition of /g/. Complication be damned, if it's not fast to do things it goes in the trash
>>
>>53080138
I use my systems for software dev. KDE was extra steps and bugs from my experience. KDE makes it even remotely friendly to someone who web browses for its main function requirement.
>>
KDE5 is horrible, it breaks half of the time.
>resize a bar, crash
>open the network manager, crash
>switch activities too quickly, crash
>set the desktop to icon view, crash
Also, inconsistent customization of various aspects.

>>53080127
Try to switch to Kubuntu LTS, it still uses KDE4 which isn't an unstable mess.
>>
>>53080176
It was not useful for me. I lived in terminal but the GUI was not useful for me to change for particular environments.

The start menu is fucking shit.
>>

>>
>>53079788
Why don't you use harkach/sosach?
>>

>>
>>53080408
Unity was pretty good. I don't like docks but it's replacable at least. Menu searching was really nice. I don't really like having a single bar for the menus though, I always have to check which window is in focus before going to the menu instead of just clicking the menu on the appropriate window.

Regarding OP's claim that I don't use KDE - well, I do in fact use KDE.

Manjaro was the only distro that got KDE right for me.

Too bad it's based on Arch. Notebooks with Optimus works much better with the *buntu drivers.

too much bad shortcuts for me.
_ shortcuts on file icons.... really i don't want to take care where do click on a icon for a file to open the way I want
_ open a new window by default everytime I enter a new folder... jeez
_ no personality... it feels blank/empty... Like Xfce but more heavy on the RAM
_ And a lot more tiny details I'm glad I forgot.
>>
>>53079788
>bad design
you got that right

I will say KDE is probably the best-looking out-of-the-box DE that Linux has, that said it's just unusable. At least to me.

The menus and submenus are are jumbled together, it makes finding shit a pain in the ass. I literally felt more comfortable in the terminal than using the DE itself. Which is a shame because it looks nice and Dolphin is a pretty good file manager.

Personally, I think Unity and Gnome 3 are more polished and easy to use than KDE. KDE is like Windows if Windows wasn't organized. Gnome 3 is more like Windows 8 and Unity is somewhere in between Windows 8 and OS X.
>>
>>53081576
running on gnome right now. But I heavily tweaked it. I hate that simili "android homescreen" gnome is going for .... what the hell I'm on a pc. I want folder and subfolder, sorted right. Not a homescreen where everything is throw at me like this. Homescreen is a mess, I don't want to ever see it again.
Moreover, last year gnome had some SEVERE memory leaks, I'm talking about gnome taking 2gb of ram in 4 hours of uptime. Had to restart it multiples times per day. Hopefuly it seems like they got their shit together lately concerning ram.

Understatement of the year. Add memory leaks and themes breaking left and right, and you have the definition of the word clusterfuck. It looks good though. ;^)

KDE 3.5.10 is no longer supported, trinity is unusable, and MATE is life-support for gnome 2, so no.
>>
>>53081581
It's an easy way to communicate to the user that the program 1- requires KDE stuff to run (so don't try to install them if you're not on KDE already!) and 2- are provided by KDE (this matters in particular because KDE has tons of cross-program integration features).

>0 real customization
>muh blackboard-textured background

It really exemplifies the entire memelightmeme experience. Everything is gaudy, headache- and nausea-inducing by design, with no interest in providing any customization options, let alone useful features. Gnome at least has the looks (shit as they are, at least the animations are good and you can look at this shit without getting vertigo), and KDE has the features.
>>

Seems like every piece in it crashes constantly. I can't use it for more than 15 minutes without a vital piece crashing, and for a lot of the crashing parts you can't even submit a bug report because the component that crashed doesn't have a name or something. I don't remember the exact term KDE used, it's been a few weeks.
