So I got a nice 25" HP IPS monitor the other day..... ( pic related ) cuz it was on sale for like $150

Initially I thought 'wow great picture it's amazing' but it's turning out to be annoying, having to have one side of my monitor for vi, the other for browsing / reference.

Seriously I don't understand how most of you in /bst/ don't have broken necks from moving around your heads this much.

I've been using it for a week now, and so far I keep using my 11 year old t43 whenver I want to just view text. The only thing I use this new monitor for is watching K-ON! in HD...............................

40" is the optimal size for a monitor. 50"+ is 'huge'.

One 25" monitor is too big? how the hell is that possible? 25" isn't even big.
Two 27" monitors and a 50" 4k TV.
Never going back.

If you'd bought a 30" you'd have an argument, but 25 is barely larger than the 24" screens everyone and his sister have

I'm an unfortunate 5'8" manlet and 32" is too small for me. What the hell "25 is huge ass monitor"?

I use 27" dual monitors I sit 2~2.5 feet away from them. Never had to move my neck around.

Thoughts?

I love my 27 inch 2560x1440 monitor.

Maybe you have your monitor too close? You shouldn't need to move your head to look at the various parts of the monitor, try moving your eyes instead.
>>
>>53073780
dont get a 27" 1080p panel, you can get a 27" 1440p korean panel for the same price.
>>
>>53072478

>>
>>53073794
Perfect size for 1440p monitor.
>>
>>53073495
Fuck the 4k. Worthless unless you do production of some kind like music, CAD, etc. Any monitor over 25" should be a greater resolution than 1080p. Get what your laptop can handle now and stick with it. You can always get a better monitor down the road when you get your pc. You don't know when you are going to get said pc or what components are going to be in it. So stick with the basics for now.

Try this monitor too if they have one on display. Great color doesn't adjust height but it does tilt.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-25-ips-led-hd-monitor-snow-white-natural-silver/5827035.p?id=1219657142234&skuId=5827035

Thank you, that does make sense. I think I will actually settle for the 23.8 Dell monitor on sale I saw in the store. That way when I get my build done it can be a side monitor that is sideways for browsing while I do work on my main monitor when I get one. Two birds with one stone. Thanks for suggesting the hp monitor though.
>>
>>53073346
About arms length, and its not as absurd as you might think if you're used to a two or three monitor setup. In fact its not quite as wide as two 24" monitors side by side, and not quite the same height as a 24" monitor turned vertically as in a typical three monitor setup.

Given that its about 115ppi its also nice and sharp.
>>
>>53073769
For 1440p 28-32" is optimal. For 2160p you want 38-42". This is assuming you aren't using any kind of scaling.
>>
>>53074530
I've got 2560x1600. The DPI is fine, but the physical size is large enough that I find myself moving my head to see it all.
>>
>>53074606
I don't see that as a particular problem given that you also have to do that with a large multi monitor setup. The key advantage to a large format display is that it can remove the need for multiple monitors due to the size and resolution while at the same time having no gaps between displays or bezels.

Works up close, and also at 10 feet if you want to watch a movie.
>>
>mfw using a 32'' LED 1080 HDTV as a monitor

Shit took like a solid month of fucking around with settings and installing f.lux to NOT have my eyes feel like they were melting out of my skull after 10 minutes of use.

Now that my eyes are used to it, and I've found optimal settings, I'm loving it.
>>
>>53074662
I'd use a TV if i wanted to watch at 10 ft and multi monitor was a shit stop-gap for a time when big single monitors were comparatively expensive. I still think 27-30" is ideal monitor size.

How is 25" big? 24" is like the normal size for monitors these days and you should only go up from there.
>having to move your head with 25" monitor
Maybe don't have your nose touching the screen
Also

Are you really that unhealthy that you find it uncomfortable to move your head? Its better that your head is moving around so maybe in the future it doesn't hurt to turn your head.
