How shit is Asus R9 390 Strix DCU3?
>>
Stock fan profiles suck on the 390 Strix, but do some adjusting and it's decent but kind of expensive compared to other 390 cards.
>>
>>53067665
Thing is i could get it used (for 1 month) for 300€ but cant get my mind around whether its worth spending extra 50€ and get sapphire. I am on tight budget

How big is your screen? Because I'm pretty sure this resolution doesn't do it justice
>>
Seems okay. Got a used one for $200. The HDMI/DVI output is dead, but that is okay for the price. Kerbal Space Program looks pretty whack, but I don't have anything else recent to test with.
>>
>>53068359
You have this card? How are the temps?
>>
>>53068532
Yep, that exact one.
I'll check after work. I haven't payed much attention. The fans never get real loud, but I don't know how taxing KSP is on max settings.
>>
get 970 strix
>>
I don't use Asus's software, but I use Afterburner to set the fan curve.

Idle around 35C with fan at 25%.
Load from 70-85C depending on the game with fan around 50%

Asus AMD cards are shit.

Get MSI or Sapphire.

My 970 idles at 33C max while browsing internet, 65C with fans at 40% during games.

DON'T DO IT OP!

I have an asus r7 260x and it's fucking dogshit.

Don't buy anything Asus.

If you want a great budget 390 get a powercolor. Their coolers are just as good as sapphire, if not better.

pic related.

i have dual 980 strix in sli and love them so far.

temps are great and i'm in a climate that hits 115 in july. top card never goes above 80c and bottom is generally low 70's. vrm's stay well under 83c on both cards. fans hit 55-60%. games i mostly play are the witcher 3, battlefield 4, fallout 4, xcom 2, sc2, and WoW.

not sure how the strix cooler is on amd but on nvidia at least they're great.

I just bought this bad boy, only $359 yo
>>
I know it's already been mentioned, but Asus is an awful choice for AMD. They make their coolers for nvidia first and reuse the design on the equivalent AMD card.
>>
Thanks for opinions. Damn still tempted to save 50€ but get a bit shittier card..
>>
>>53077215
You should be able to find a powercolor card for that money. They're like a cheaper Sapphire. Great cards without spending too much on a cooler.
>>
>>53077227
Impossible mate. Where i live right now no pc part shop has an msi sapphire or powercolor r9 390. So i am looking at craigslists. And no one will sell powercolor 390 on craigslist
>>
>>53077248
Damn. Best of luck then bro
>>
>>53077257
I am even tempted to go with EVGA 970. could get new with warranty for 280€..
>>
>>53077273
Buying a 970 in 2016 is possibly the dumbest purchasing decision that you could make. It's either that or the massively-overpriced 980 anyway.
>>
>>53077273
I really wouldn't. It's a seriously bad card. I know people meme it, but they meme it for a reason.
>>
>>53077295
I dont know then mate.. guess ill wait for sapphire to become available for 350€
>>
>>53077416
Why not the 380x?
>>
>>53077604
Need something a bit more futureproofed
>>
>>53075171
Should have done research beforehand. Saphire and powercolor dump that msi shit into the ground. I fucking hate this msi meme. Everyone is like "buy msi, they never disappointed me" but guess what, there are better manufacturers

And Asus is obviously a pile of shit. Worst cooling system of all and yet the most expensive. Retards keep buying them anyway
>>
>>53075334
I have a Asus 7850, works literally perfectly. Overclocks like a beast, is fairly silent and on stock the temp hovers around 55c on load and OC'd around 63-65c on load.

I don't if Asus suddenly got shit few years ago or something though.
>>
>>53080052
I don't know*
>>
>>53080052
the 7850 is a completely different beast than the 390X though.

Their DCU3 coolers are just not great for chips that hot. Literally every other manufacturer did a better job and most of them for less money.

Don't talkt for a brand as a whole man. Just read some reviews of the 390 from ASUS and compare it to the competition.

I was very happy with a R9 280 from ASUS but I still would never recommend the ASUS 390 to anyone.
>>
>>53067599
>Asus
That's the only shit part about it, honestly.
It might be a meme, but Sapphire really is the best choice for AMD cards.
Save 20 shekels and get a Sapphire 390

That isn't true though. The MSI 390(X) is up there with the Sapphire. Both are better than the PowerColor, which is tier two.

>>53080052
I had an Asus R9 270 for a few months. It was a nice card. They ARE generally complete shit for AMD cards though. Their 390 runs 17 degrees hotter than Sapphire's, despite an even fuckhuger cooler.

Gotta look at the noise man. The msi one is like 10db louder than saphire to keep those Temps.

Also the powercolor ones are hit and miss unfortunately.

>>53080416
Powercolors 390(X) is tier one. It might be a bit loud but the temps are very low.
>>
>>53080574
Nah. I had the PowerColor one and it was absolute shit. The zero fan thing is a lie, because the card gets hot enough just watching a video or something to trigger them. Even setting a custom fan curve over the ridiculously-loud default one doesn't fix it. It just gets up to 70 or whatever and they still kick in, on the desktop.

Replaced it with a Sapphire and it's night and day. Anybody comparing the two hasn't actually owned one.
>>
lmao yall nigs enjoy your crazy power usage and heat output.
while the 970 is doing 40 c and is dead silent with 145w usage.
>>
>>53081075
Not him. But yeah, as I've said above powercolor is very hit and miss. Heard a lot of good and bad stuff.

Saphire is overall the best manufacturer of gpus including the Nvidia competition imo. It's incredible how they can keep a chip like Hawaii so quiet and cool. Huge difference between their 3 fan cooling system and the likes from gigabyte, Asus, Gainward and what not. Saphire is simply ahead of the competition while offering incredible prices
>>
I bought it. Dude who owned it ran furmark and it topped at 72c. Ran dying light 1440p maxed out at ~60 fps and it never went above 70c. Warranty for 3 years. Looks new. Also checked how much power his whole rig took from the wall. At load it never went above 300.

Wtf are people shitting about asus 390?
>>
>>53080416
>>53080557
>>53080574
These graphs are not accurate, considering MSI has the "frozr" meme, which makes the fans not spin up untill 60c (ensuring you wont hear a constant VRRRRRRR when not on heavy load).

This can be tweaked, but it's like that straight out of the box. I doubt those guys actually configured the actuation point for when the fans should spin up.

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/3eojk3/troubleshooting_new_msi_r9_390_runs_at_a_constant/
>>
>>53081380
Powercolor, ASUS and Sapphire have the same functionality.
>>
I feel like I'm the only person in the world that isn't bothered by fan noise. I have my headphones on at my computer 99% of the time anyway so I don't even hear that shit. I'd rather keep my hardware cool.
>>
>>53081430
Sauce? Can't find any info anywhere.

I know they can do it, but they won't straight out of the box.
>>
>>53081380
>>53081430
Also MSI is clocked a bit higher, which I assume is the reason they put a little more voltage on their cards. I did some undervolt and reduced 10C without performance loss on my 390x
>>
So I have an msi r9 380, and fans never turn on.
It will get to 62°C before the fans start up, and they stay on for about 5 minutes. The temp never goes above 62°, but I know these fans aren't doing shit.

Should I use Afterburner? And does anyone have a good fan curve profile?
>>
>>53080574
got a powercolor 390 its prettygood
>>
Reason why ASUS 390 is running so hot for users is because of the default fan profile. Once you create your own curve its no different than other 390's
