Tails is for using Tor in Starbucks on a non-descript netbook while wearing a hoodie and dark sunglasses. It is the best at what it does but it's not intended as a desktop OS.

If you are just starting out Linux I advice don't go with specialized distros, and certainly don't come to /g/ expecting advice. They are not just trolls, by the JTRIG documents leaked by Snowden we know that places like 4chan are a cauldron for potential undercover agents, for real.

Go to the friendly linux thread, lurk for a time, ask questions, then go with the easy distros if you are new (Lubuntu/Xubuntu/Mint).
>>
>>53074002

>So, does this means the NSA is willing to defame

kek look up COINTELPRO and JTRIG. This is standard procedure for governments.

>>53074097

Tails and Qubes are undoubtedly flags on their monitoring system, whichever code name it is going by these days.

>>53074130

Qubes is great. I use it myself. Qubes+Whonix is god-tier. Whonix forces all of your data through the Tor network, which prevents even your workspace computer from knowing your real IP or MAC address. What brought Ross down was poor OPSEC though. The human element of security will always be the weakest.

i have been reading for the last fucking 9 hours, as soon as i came back from my college course.
And i was unable to download Tails.
the NSA will only follow you when they have something that leads to you...

But there are thousands of people using Tor or tails... does that mean that NSA "triangulates" every bodies location ? NO... unless they have a lead on him/her.

There is no 100% anonymity on the internet without a doubt but i don't want to be another statistic... or guy they just blame because he hung out on /pol/ to learn about fascism...

/its almost fucking 10 hours and i cant get this shit on a fucking usb to RUNNNNNNNNN
>>
>>53074268

Qubes is better than Tails, IMHO. The only thing that Tails has over Qubes is that Tails doesn't save your history by default and it is portable.

If you are looking for a distro for your main computer, Qubes is in a league of it's own. It allows you to compartmentalize all of your activity, so that an email attachment doesn't also leak your bank records for example. Or your tetris game won't be able to take a screenshot of your PGP keys.

It has a Whonix template installed by default. Whonix is far and away the best OS for using Tor. It creates two VMs, a gateway and a workspace. The gateway knows your IP and MAC address, but forces all network traffic through the Tor network. The workspace VM is blind, it can't access your IP or MAC address. So even if someone were to hack your Whonix VM, they couldn't get your real ID (so long as you don't log into gmail or facebook, etc).

On top of this, it has a built in firewall, allows you to create VMs that have no network interface, which is a great place to host your password manager and PGP keys. Also it has secure copy, and runs all firmware on a seperate VM. There really is too much to post about it.

The only downside is the lack of hardware support thusfar. Check out the HCL guide to see if your computer is compatible. If it isn't listed, download the live USB version and test it out yourself.

>>53074331
What are you getting hung up on? You need two USBs to install Tails 2.0 properly.

If the ISO downloaded all the way then it is an error in how you are copying the ISO to the USB. Which program are you using to burn it? You know that you can't simply drag the file to the USB, you have to use a special program to burn it to the USB. If you're using Windows, download a program called "unetbootin" and use that to burn it.

I can't speak for the BIOS, I only use Libreboot. It would seem that if you can change the boot order, then you should have sufficient privileges to run from a USB. Perhaps someone else can help. Maybe its a problem with UEFI. Have you tried it on a different computer?

>>53075959
I give Tails USB drives to family members and friends on fairly frequently. This method saves me having to burn the ISO, then log into Tails just to use this install of Tails to install the full version on a different USB. It cuts about 10 minutes off the process.

>>53075966

There is an "Unsecure Browser" to use for Facebook, gmail, etc. This won't compromise your privacy at all. Users are warned of this on the Tails page.

In any case, using Tor will eliminate 99% of corporate and government mass surveillance, which is what most users are concerned about.

It's pretty simple really. Around here if you like something that one of the many 12 year olds or NEETs don't like, they call it a meme, and/or a botnet and say that you fell for it, and that you are a cuck because of it.

It's good to keep in mind that an alarmingly high number of the dipshits who hang around here don't have a single goddamn clue what they are talking about.
