Now that the IPhone is objectively the better choice, when are you gonna make the switch?

If Tim Cook was a victim in the bombings Apple would have full heartedly worked with the government.

Iphones are proprietary. I'll consider using them when they become freed.

HOLY SHIT PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY THIS DUMB

PEOPLE A HUNDRED YEARS FROM NOW WILL LOOK BACK IN AMAZEMENT AT HOW RETARDED PEOPLE WERE

This issue is a lot more important than what phone is better. Open your eyes OP.

There will be no people a hundred years from now. The machines will have undoubtedly taken over by then.

OP is a paid shill. Can there really be an applefag delusional enough to think they're safe with proprietary software?

I truly hope so

what? the fuck????
NSA has nothing to do with this, they already have all apple data because PRISM.
FBI just wanted their own finger in the pie, but they can get whatever they want from NSA if they really wanted.

It's not a pain in the ass. Firefox is a little bit faster even.

>apple makes encrypted iPhone
>NSA orders apple to make backdoor or face $250,000 * 2^(day after order) fine every day
>apple makes backdoor for NSA

The only question is, why the fuck is the FBI making this request in the public? It's just PR to drum up support against encryption to further future anti encryption legislation. Tim Cook is trying to counter it though, good for him. But all your data is still in NSA hands.

I use rooted android AOSP in my moto E 2014, no Google play services and 99% open source apps from fdroid, only propietary app installed is whatsapp.

I use VLC, Lightning browser, GLImageViewer, and termux with youtube-dl and a couple of CLI apps.

Installed xposed and xprivacy and I'm very happy with this setup

Yes.
Fox News just had a guy on saying that Apple is "un-American" and are siding with child rapists over the American government.
>>
>>53054895
It always comes down to the child rapists when the elites are going to potentially lose some power doesn't it?
>>
>>53054929
Yes. "think of the children" is the classical campaign for just about everything, including power grabs by fascist governments.
>>
>>53053018
I don't really understand this to be honest. Won't future terrorist just move on to some other encryption method that the government can't order Apple to crack?

>American government

tough choice to be honest

>>53054877
not using rfc 1149
>>
>>53055013
The problem really isn't even with the encryption at all. The problem is that people are too fucking lazy to deal with anything other than 4-digit, 0-9 numbers to protect their device. This means that Apple (in theory.. and reality) could install some new firmware on this device to try all 10,000 combinations to generate the 128-bit or 256-bit key or whatever it is... effectively reducing it to a <14-bit key. The only reason this is even being discussed is because of delay-between-try and too-many-attempts. My opinion is that the people need to start getting serious about encrypting their shit with crypto that is known to be good. Then, why ask someone to decrypt? Can't be done.

That's another thing I don't get. Why aren't the terrorists already doing this now? According to the media they're currently genius "James Bond" level villains. Why are they using garbage encryption that could be decrypted at all? Even the retards on 4chan know better.
>>

Yes. Do you?

>"James Bond" level villians
Yes, I've heard this at work lately.

Some of them might, but mostly they are just people who have been wronged on many levels lashing out in extreme (and probably wrong) ways.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2016/02/encryption-isnt-at-stake-the-fbi-knows-apple-already-has-the-desired-key/

I don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, I feel that encryption is important and that you shouldn't be forced to make a backdoor just because the gubermint tells you to.

On the other hand, I feel that Apple is being hypocritical, and they chose the wrong case to do it on.

The article I posted just causes more confusion for me.
>>
>>53055613
>If

>>53055085
Their aren't any good encryption services or software for Linux. When installing Fedora or Mint for example, it asks if you want your home folder encrypted or the entire drive. FBI and the NSA has backdoors in it.
>>
>>53055854
Not sure what you mean by "their", but all the crypto you could ever want exists within the Linux kernel, so doesn't matter which distribution you choose as long as it is released within the last 12 years or so. You can even chain cyphers if you want. It might be required that you read a couple of pages though. This is why I was saying, we (people as a whole) need to get more serious about crypto. We need to make it easy for people, like yourself, who are not technical. You shouldn't be required to know about computers to be able to use good crypto to protect your privacy. Instead we get politicians and 3-letter officials telling us that we must abandon our privacy out of fear.

>>
>>53055713
The question isn't whether Apple can do what the feds want; that's a given.
It's whether they should.
If they do then they are at the beck and call of every tin-pot regieme in the world who wants a phone cracked.
Americans forget that their writ stops at the border. Blackberry found that out in Pakistan and Egypt.
>>
>>53056788
They should. It is a court order.
They can appeal it, it is in their right.
We can protest it.
But if they cannot win then they should do it because it is the law.

It is important, though, that they resist it because every case will have to be on its own merits and the harder it is to get the first one done the less likely they will be "at the beck and call of every tin-pot regieme in the world who wants a phone cracked."
