The defaults are Mitchell-Netravali because it has little aliasing, but there's ewa_lanczos and others, I guess you want sharpness so you probably would prefer ewa_lanczossharp

Bicubic with a low blur factor and antiring enabled

I've been wrestling with my GPU for three entire days now, piece of shit doesn't seem to get recognized, with the trash integrated Intel HD 4000 trash being used instead. I've formatted like 4 times. now. Just to be sure it isn't MPV with this config:

I shouldn't be needing any "complement" like directx or one of the Microsoft Redistributable packages, right? This config worked fine before I formatted.

No, it's worse, that's why the manual says it can create artifacts

madshi sometimes just stops giving a fuck about developing madvr, and sometimes he goes back to developing it

What's the real difference between madvr/mpdn super-res and mpv superxbr pre-scaler?

>>
>>53061736
Because for most windows users this isn't the case and MPC just werks while MPV doesn't. It doesn't even have good keybinds by default, you have to manually bind scroll wheel to volume instead of skipping through video (which is retarded and should be a default).

Before I go ahead and make more comparisons, could somebody explain why madVR is so much better than MPV on this one?

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/162550

MPV conf:
vo=opengl-hq:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:cscale=ewa_lanczossoft

madVR conf: https://imouto.my/download/lav-filters-megamix-x64/ on medium settings.

What do I put on MPV to reach the quality of madVR?
>>
>>53065653
that madvr config uses lumasharpen shader + superres + superxbr image doubling + antiring.
try with adaptive-sharpen or finesharp shader and maybe nnedi3 prescale, e.g:
vo=opengl-hq:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:cscale=ewa_lanczossoft:scale-antiring=0.8:post-shaders="~~/adaptive-sharpen.glsl"

video-sync=display-resample

I just tried
vo=opengl-hq:post-shaders="~~/adaptive-sharpen.glsl"

and it still runs bad. Then I tried it on madVR, and it runs significantly better than on MPV, but it still "lags", so I guess it's just the nature of the filter itself.

I'll test finesharp now.

Insane preset shouldn't work smoothly, you need a better GPU.

It's a laptop. AMD HD 7730m.
>>53069981
Sadly, didn't help at all.

By the way the rip is called "Paris.Texas.1984.BDRip.1080p.x264.DTS-MySiLU.DUB.MVO.DVO.2xSUB", and it's 11.5 Gb so it's a significant file.

should work without any problems on that gpu.

50% I'd say, something it jumps to 25% and 75%.

I have 0 skipped frames but the vo value keep increasing, sometimes I "feel" the video sluggish

You won't do much high cscale quality with that igpu
try

vo=opengl-hq:cscale=bilinear:post-shaders="~~/adaptive-sharpen.glsl"

it's not igpu, it's just a bit slower thsn GeForce GT 650M

this is adapative-sharpen.glsl in case something can be done about that: http://pastebin.com/D167u0N6

Question related to installing the mpv. I have downloaded the most recent source code of mpv, and I wish to edit the shortcut commands before compiling the code. However, I don't know where the file containing the shortcut command information is located in the code. Here is a list of all the files contained in the mpv-0.15.0 folder. Which file or folder contains the shortcut command information?

Why would you do that?
You just but input.conf in the same directory as mpv.conf

Also I doubt something with a version name like that is the latest version. Here is the github page where you can actually download the newest version https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv

how do I go about setting up mpv to seamlessly go fullscreen like in baka-mplayer.
That is to say, that the screen doesn't turn black for a second or whatever (exclusive).

I don't see ANY difference at all between any of these presets in my animu. I just need to add this to mpv.conf, right?

Super-res is actually the best sharpener and this is mainly why I keep madvr.
This would be amazing if someone port it inside mpv just like superxbr and nnedi3.
There is a lot of super-res glsl shaders but they don't work with mpv.
Maybe should I try a linux distribution and vapoursynth...
>>
Comparison guy again. tried fine sharp on mpv and finally, there's absolutely no difference from madvr. so im gonna guess fine sharp is a "fork" of lumasharpen? runs smooth too. i think ill stick to mpv then!

I'm running gnome under wayland and mpv and whenever I try to fullscreen a video it moves it to the top of the screen and doesn't black out the other parts.

I'd like to have traditional letterboxing, where the video is h-centered with black areas above and below.

#fullscreen=yes
#terminal=no
force-window=yes
# border=no
idle=once
save-position-on-quit=yes
hwdec=vaapi
vo=opengl-hq:backend=wayland
framedrop=no
no-fixed-vo=yes
stop-screensaver=yes
fs-screen=all

Some options are commented out because I was experimenting. No joy.

SVP looks awful.
For maximum smoothness use
interpolation:tscale=mitchell

There are other options mitchell is my personal preference.
>>

they're all virtually identical.

You could stick to bicubic, but mitchell is probably a little better. Anything after that is pointless

It helps remove the motion judder that occurs from playing videos at a framerate that isn't support by you display (24 fps on a 60hz display).
This is especially noticeable on panning shots.

Like removegrain, though it wouldn't be ideal, you're better off just filtering the video with avisynth and reencoding, or using vapoursynth and mpv
>>53072071

It does. It allows you to play, seek, go back, forward, cycle subtitles and cycle audio tracks.

Is there anything I can change or improve with this config?

#High Quality
vo=opengl-hq:interpolation:waitvsync:correct-downscaling:sigmoid-upscaling:deband:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:dscale=ewa_lanczossharp:cscale=ewa_lanczossharp

#Insane Quality
#vo=opengl-hq:interpolation:waitvsync:correct-downscaling:sigmoid-upscaling:deband:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:cscale=ewa_lanczossharp:prescale=nnedi3:nnedi3-neurons=64

video-sync=display-resample
framedrop=vo
hwdec=no

Doing lots of image comparisons my self with the difference option in Photoshop there are no literally differences between the high and insane preset for "regular" movies other then around the black bars, if there are any.

For anime though there is a slight difference around the edges but it is still negligible unless you stare at comparison screenshots, not noticeable at all in motion.

Compared to MadVR (Kawaii Codec Pack's highest preset) the image quality is still better with this config for both upscaling to 1440p and in the off chance that I am downscaling. Also it might just be my hardware that can support it but on pan and scan shots or scenes with little camera motion the interpolation is good enough to be comparable to SVP, at 60Hz and even at 135Hz on my old CRT it will look almost lifelike, The Third & The Seventh is a good film to test it with.

some commercial dvd's are sourced from an NTSC/PAL composite signal, usually older stuff that wasn't made digitally

I'm using Baka MPlayer and this file's audio is out of sync. Is there a way to fix this?
>>
>>53076468
>using fancy scalers and strict syncronization while also using interpolation
doing it wrong, interpolation just makes using the wrong refresh rate more tolerable, it's not as good as using the correct refresh rate for the video (a multiple of the video frame rate)
>>
>>53071814
super-res is not for sharpening, it's for repairing/improving upscaled image.
