Why haven't you replaced your front door lock with this NFC-enabled Samsung door lock+handle combo?

You can jump start it with a standard 9V battery.

No, but you can tweet from your fridge.

Who is going to carry a fucking 9 volt around in their pocket? Come on, this is silly.

I would assume it has an onboard battery capable of at least a month of standby or like 100 unlocks, in the event the power goes out.
Otherwise that's just retarded.

a smart design would be a traditional keyhole behind a popout panel, like what push button start cars do

ewww

I did get one though. It is both NFC and keypad. Maker is Serrure. It autolocks behind me and I don't have to pull the fob out to unlock it. Pretty fucking awesome.

It is battery powered, idiots. You don't run power through doors. Around 18 months off four AAs for mine.

The device also gives you warnings for like two months before they actually die. You have to be REALLY incompetant to let it run out.

Even if it dies, you can just use a 9V to open it from the outside.
>>
>>53039994
You won't believe how easy it is to break it.
>>
>>53040630
It's not entirely difficult to break a normal lock either. If someone really wants to get in they can, the goal is the most convenient way to provide a simple deterrent.
>>
>>53039994
samsung...
probably scans all phones that come within range and sends it back to a server.
i wouldn't trust those wankers even if you paid me.
>>
>>53040428
agreed. seems like all tech is now targeted at the typical mouth breathing great unwashed masses.
>>
>>53040741
I am okay with an electronic lock, but fuck buying Samsung for ANYTHING related to security.
>>
>>53040768

So that would make you...?
>>
How about using a USB security key instead?

shit son. now they've stolen your gun as well. those things can be expensive
>>

you still can get in with the key code.
>>
my regular lock works just fine
>>
I've been seeing these at trade shows for the past year and all these chink and gook companies are following suite with them .

The orients can't make a lock worth a damn. I'll wait for an American company or German company to get into the frey with this since they're tinfoilers and always overcompensate when it comes to security.
>>
>>53040999
>key code gets stolen too
>>
>>53041057
Why would you let someone steal your keycode? It should be something you memorize.

Even if it leaks you can change it in 15 seconds.

You can also easily de-auth all of your fobs.
>>
>>53041083
>memories get stole too

I live in Canada where it goes to -40c in the winter, this meme lock will crack and die and be useless.
>>
>>53039994
You can make something similar to that with an AVR and a motor. Plus transistors ofc.
>>
>>53039994
>samsung
Fuck no
>>
>>53039994

because the front door lock is only there to keep a honest person honest. it isn't there to literally protect your house from being broken into. metal keys are cheaper and easier to deal with than electronic methods
>>
>>53039994
Because it can be rendered non-functional easily.

Denial of service doesn't only happen over the internet.
>>
>>53041128
This! And in other places like BC, the humidity will fuck this thing up the ass. Here in Alberta, this thing is DOA.

Smack it with a brick. Pry it open with a crowbar. Short the power to the mechanism that opens the deadbolt.

I fail to see how this is an improvement over a traditional deadbolt, which would have to be actually picked to open.
>>
>>53041844
>Smack it with a brick.

Now you have a smashed keypad and a stuck bolt.

>Pry it open with a crowbar.

Like you can do with a normal door?

>Short the power to the mechanism that opens the deadbolt.

Doesn't work like that. Bolt mechanism is on the other side.

Hotels use this kind of things since ever, they can even remotely assign the card they're giving you at the check in to the lock. And I assume they have systems to prevent problems in case of a black out. Why should I buy this ridiculously huge and clearly functions lacking branded lock when there are already better, more secure and more elegant models from actual security companies?
Also
>guest comes to your house

I would go back to my car to reconsider the reasons that brought me to the faggot's door
>>

because it's literally made for hotels.
>>
>>53040937
Don't worry they will leave the door open for you after stealing everything in your home

Because I have one of these in my front door.

And it's proven that it's helluvalot easier to break the door than try to open this lock without a key.
