motherfucker is made of hard wood but the design is so shitty I'd imagine a good kick should break a sizable hole in it, I really wanted to design a big ass metal door with locks on at least three sides of it, one day, or reinforce it with two wooden bars.
Could get an IP cam or a cheapo cam with IR and hook it up to an old PC and mein network and set it to Email me when it detects movement via changes in the pic frames, or do the same thing with an old useless droid, either hook it up to a power source and leave it on facing the door for eternity or the server idea above use it as a cam.
I could easily also get a motion or a light sensor, install it right above the door and build a circuit around it with the purpose of setting off the loudest fucking siren imaginable and a blinding light outside the apt.
but meh, there is nothing to steal anyway and all the family tech combined is sub 2k dollaroos.

I use a cheap infrared sensor, sticked to the corner of the living room (small apartment, it covers all doors), it cost like 20€ and runs on AA batteries, does nothing beside a loud alarm sound but I think it's enough for now, I'm on the 3rd floor and have a reinforced entrance door too so thieves are gonna have a hard time anyway.
Later I'm planning to get metallic bars for the window of my room and replace its door with something similar too, plus a set of infrared sensors for the whole house, that sends you a sms when the alarm gets triggered, though it costs over 700€.

Yes they do, especially when you live in the South and are surrounded by white trash tweakers. A couple of them broke into my home a few years ago. While I was still home. I had to escape through a window since I wasn't armed at the time, although I've since invested in a firearm.
My house is small enough that I have a pretty ubiquitous view of things, so it wouldn't take me long to grab my rifle and deal with any intruders. I think some sort of surveillance system would be going overboard.
When I was a kid I made an alarm with one of these electric bells here, wired to a 6 volt battery mounted inside a wooden box. I hung it above my door and wired it to complete the connection when the door was opened, setting off the alarm.
