My ipod touch running iOS defaults to the 1/1/1970 when i turn it on after losing power, no problems at all.

Only affects 64bit, so if you're gonna shitpost you dumb cunt try doing it properly

>>52963915
Have fun copy+pasting a picture from your computer onto your phone.
iOS is a locked down heap of shit, i'd rather possibly being vulnerable than not being able to fucking do anything.

Nigga please, the style looks way less shit than old version of Android which makes it easier to develop apps with less time spent on useless UI styling. It's also way less confusing because Google put out good guidelines on UI design so there are a clusterfuck of disparate navigation/interaction methods

yes, in my opinion the best look was 4.4.4, but then google took these rainbow material-drugs and everything went down the drain. Now all is lost, there is no hope.

>omg, do want do want
We'll have to wait for some new phones to pick up the OS. Community dev is kinda dead now since Canonical stopped releasing images for common phones.

There's also the very slim possibility of Tizen OS kicking off but it's only on handhelds in S Korea right now. Tizen OS is also much more linux-heavy than android, like Ubuntu Touch, and it also can run X

>>52965251
The issue is hardware support. Phones are more tightly-knit with hardware because they're trying to be as low power and compact as possible. The result is more custom, less modular components. Laptops and desktops have much more leeway with that. So more effort has to be put into making the compatible drivers.

Also Android is horribly fragmented right now so devs would have to support multiple versions of the OS. More work.

Plus every company wants to be a bunch of money grubbers and put their own proprietary shit in the OS. Same thing happens on regular computers but it's usually an additional program, not revamping the UI with Sense (as an example)
>>
>>52965382
gentoo for phone
compile it yourself to optimize
This would be necessary, but not many people, even /g/entlemen would want to do this after buying the phone, would you?

;_;

As an android user and academic security researcher, I can assure you that against the overwhelming majority of threat models that people care about, iOS is immeasurably more secure than Android. Everyone in my lab uses android phones (except for thatoneguy.png.jpg who refuses to own a smart phone), but ask any one of them and they'll tell you Android's code base is a steaming pile of shit.

>>52964016
I mean, the majority of malware on Android right now is just straight up trojans, but there's no reason a stagefright worm couldn't be a thing. Only a matter of time before some Russians decide to fire up a botnet that disables SMS rate limiting and floods a mobile donation services' bank account they compromised with transactions.

>Only affects 64bit
It also apparently only affects phones with time zones negative to GMT, making it almost certainly an underflow issue.
>>
>>52966727
>with time zones negative to GMT, making it almost certainly an underflow issue.
Does it though?

If you are, say, GMT-7 and you set your clock to 01/01/1970 and say 12:00 (midday) then if it stores the time as GMT it would store the unixtime for 01/01/1970 19:00, because you are 7 hours behind GMT.

If your timezone is GMT+7 though then it would be set to 01/01/1970 05:00 because you are 7 hours in front of GMT.

The only way for it to make sense is for it to be a positive GMT timezone.

There must be something else happening. Perhaps it even tries to work out the times for all timezones on boot so if there are any timeszones that come after you that underflow then the problem happens.
>>
>>52963915
if you are running ios every version is vulnerable until apple fixes it
>>
>>52966958
>Perhaps it even tries to work out the times for all timezones on boot so if there are any timeszones that come after you that underflow then the problem happens.
But then you would still expect it to affect 32bit models.

It's probably underflowing, but I don't see how it could be specially affecting 64bit versions.

>ask any one of them and they'll tell you Android's code base is a steaming pile of shit.

That's on purpose though. They wanted to get the #1 place on the smartphone market, and for that they had to get overly permissive in almost every way (permissions, carriers, security, etc).

I honestly think the only reason why Android hasn't gotten its own Blaster worm, is because there wouldn't be any way to make money of it while remaining anonymous. That, and because Android is so fragmented, it might be a challenge to even write a kind of virus that behaves as intended on every Android device.

Once again, don't make yourself a target. Disable MMS autofetch shit, be wary of suspicious looking messages, update your CM version, etc.
